...do you realize ... just how 'intolerant' the majority of your countrymen would view you as a result of this post?

What is "intolerant" about stating simple historical facts that anyone can verify for himself, if they bother to look at the actual historical record? We're not talking about ancient history here. Recent evidence that Muslims tend to be unpeaceable neighbors includes the Balkan War....

The charge of "intolerance" is raised by folks who wish to censor speech, to make it conform to whatever shifting opinion of the "politically correct" happens to be in vogue at any given time. Such folks have zero respect for the idea that Truth is universally applicable to human beings whether they like it or not.

Or if people don't want to consult history, they can just go read the Quran and find out what it actually says — which is in fact the sayings of the prophet Mohammed.

Here's a sampler:

Sura 8, Spoils of War (Al-Anfãl), Quran, Khalifa translation

You Shall Be Prepared: A Divine Commandment

[8:60] You shall prepare for them [i.e., the non-believers] all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilize, that you may frighten the enemies of GOD, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; GOD knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of GOD will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice.

[8:61] If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient. [Note: "Peace" in Islam means total submission of all non-believers to Allah.]

God Suffices the Believers

[8:62] If they want to deceive you, then GOD will suffice you. He will help you with His support, and with the believers.

[8:63] He has reconciled the hearts (of the believers). Had you spent all the money on earth, you could not reconcile their hearts. But GOD did reconcile them. He is Almighty, Most Wise.

[8:64] O you prophet, sufficient for you is GOD and the believers who have followed you.

[8:65] O you prophet, you shall exhort the believers to fight. If there are twenty of you who are steadfast, they can defeat two hundred, and a hundred of you can defeat a thousand of those who disbelieved. That is because they are people who do not understand.

[8:66] Now (that many new people have joined you) GOD has made it easier for you, for He knows that you are not as strong as you used to be. Henceforth, a hundred steadfast believers can defeat two hundred, and a thousand of you can defeat two thousand by GOD's leave. GOD is with those who steadfastly persevere.

[8:67] No prophet shall acquire captives, unless he participates in the fighting. You people are seeking the materials of this world, while GOD advocates the Hereafter. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[8:68] If it were not for a predetermined decree from GOD, you would have suffered, on account of what you took, a terrible retribution.

[8:69] Therefore, eat from the spoils you have earned, that which is lawful and good, and observe GOD. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[8:70] O you prophet, tell the prisoners of war in your hands, "If GOD knew of anything good in your hearts, He would have given you better than anything you have lost, and would have forgiven you. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful." [8:71] And if they want to betray you, they have already betrayed GOD. This is why He made them the losers. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

And I just loved this one, on "women's issues":

Sura 4, Women (Al-Nesã´), Quran, Khalifa translation

Do Not Beat Your Wife

[4:34] The men are made responsible for the women, and GOD has endowed them with certain qualities, and made them the bread earners. The righteous women will cheerfully accept this arrangement, since it is GOD's commandment, and honor their husbands during their absence. If you experience rebellion from the women, you shall first talk to them, then (you may use negative incentives like) deserting them in bed, then you may (as a last alternative) beat them. If they obey you, you are not permitted to transgress against them. GOD is Most High, Supreme.

Not to mention that the following presents a huge stumbling block for a nation erected on Christian principles:

Trinity: A False Doctrine
[4:171] O people of the scripture, do not transgress the limits of your religion, and do not say about GOD except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was a messenger of GOD, and His word that He had sent to Mary, and a revelation from Him. Therefore, you shall believe in GOD and His messengers. You shall not say, "Trinity." You shall refrain from this for your own good. GOD is only one god. Be He glorified; He is much too glorious to have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. GOD suffices as Lord and Master.

Sura 48, Victory (Al-Fatt-h), Quran, Khalifa translation

The Great Prophecy

[48:28] He is the One who sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all other religions. GOD suffices as a witness.

Recently, I have been reading the Quran — in English, of course, since I do not speak Arabic.

"Abe and friends" at this website are not jihadis, but "moderate" in their approach to the holy texts. But I note on every single page, there's a disclaimer at the bottom: "Abe and friends condemn all acts of violence, suicide bombings, and terrorism enacted under the banner of Islam.”

Jeepers, why did they have to say that?

Whatever. It seems to me the text speaks for itself.

FWIW

Just a little story before I close. I have had Muslim friends in my past. One was a college boyfriend here in the United States who wanted to STAY here. He wanted very much to marry an American and settle here, not least because if he went back to Pakistan, his family would insist on an arranged marriage with his cousin; and he definitely was not up to that.

The second Muslim friend was a co-worker. On the morning of 9/11, she was beside herself with shock and grief over the events of that fatal day, and was especially worried about her cousin here, in the U.S., because the cousin insisted on continuing to wear the headscarf; and Filza was worried to death that her cousin would be attacked because she was self-identifying as a Muslim.

But I reassured Filza that her cousin was in no danger at all, that America was a system of rule of law that protects all individuals within its borders. That her cousin was completely safe here, not to worry.

And that turned out to be the case. There were no street gangs that went after Muslims, to mete out revenge for the horrific crimes of that fatal day. Unlike in the country of her birth, Pakistan.

Thank you for your kind words of support, dear joanie-f, sister in Christ!

Indeed.

Thank you so much for those shocking passages out of the koran and for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!

Incredibly insightful observations, backed up by words from their own holy book.

What rational human being could disagree with your assertions, betty?

Trouble is, too many Americans are either incapable of analyzing and digesting such facts, or unwilling to spend the time. They would rather parrot one-line political 'truths' fed to them by the mainstream media. Before the dust has settled around this Middle East mess, Obama and his state department will be blameless in all of the carnage and unrest, and analyses as remarkable as yours will have been swept under the rug.

Thank you for taking the time, and connecting the dots.

Your sister in Christ --

Unfortunately, this often seems to be the case. And so such folks probably would not ever recognize that the current crises in the Middle East and North Africa are simply Obama's abysmal foreign policy "chickens coming home to roost."

In the end, we get the government we deserve, dear sister in Christ.

Thank you so much for writing!

Mohammed was nothing more than the ‘prophet’ of his time trying to establish a following apart from the stem of Issac and he did quite well for himself.

He certainly did.

Thank you so very much for pointing out the historical basis of Islam, noinfringers2!
