Diplomatic, western posts targeted repeatedly in Benghazi in run-up to deadly assault
FOX ^ | Sept. 15, 2012 | Catherine Herridge

While the Obama administration says there was no actionable intelligence that could have prevented the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, there was a heightened threat in the region due to at least four attacks on diplomatic and western targets leading up to the murder of the U.S. ambassador.

"This (the U.S. Consulate) was a place that was targeted months before with an IED (improvised explosive device)," Congressman Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, who has been briefed on the attack and investigation, told Fox News. "It's clearly a target that they wanted to hit and they wanted to cause casualties. I find it -- a little the glaring question of a 9/11 date. It's just too many coincidences here."

Why would they ACT on it?

Acting to protect America would hurt THEIR political "halo".

Along with himself, he was endangering others, including those who lost their lives and Libyan informers who may have had their identity compromised.

Fox news is leaving out a major part of the story.

The attack was a revenge attack for the drone killing of Al Libi, the Lion Of Libya, in June.

Al Qaeda, Zawahiri had never acknowledged the death of Al Libi in June and the US never claimed to have killed Al Libi because they didn't know for certain that the drone attack on Al Libi had been successful.

It was not until 9-11-12, the day before, that Zawahiri released the tape in which he acknowledged that Al Libi had been killed and called for revenge.

As I understand it, the embassies are under threats often and they can’t shut things down every other day. So, they have to decide whether a threat is out of the ordinary or sounds more serious or imminent, etc. Who is responsible for making the decision & what the criteria are, I’m not sure.
I would think it would partly have something to do with where the threat is coming from, and that some decisions are made locally and then phoned in to the State Dept to ask for advice or permission to take a certain action.

Zawahri may have released the tape the day before, but I’m not so sure that this was all planned in a day.
If it was, & he was just doing it on Sept 11 because of the date, then it would seem that Stevens being there was a coincidence.

While the Obama administration says there was no actionable intelligence that could have prevented the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya

If there was no credible intelligence, why did Canada move her people out of much of the area and oust embassy folks the week before? When will we be reminded - oh that's right, it was "totally unrelated"...

Interesting - I hadn’t heard that. Do you have a link?

All of our embassy and consular buildings in Libya had been left unprotected at the express orders of Hillary after the Islamist takeover. AQ knew it was an easy mark, and while Stevens may have been too trusting (as was posted elsewhere, he was a Third Worldist, one of those people who falls in love with a primitive culture and thinks he can help the people in it), he wasn’t responsible for his death.

He had an appointment in Benghazi with officials - he was actually signing a deal and opening a new cultural center, of all things - and did not travel there on 9/11, but was already at the consular outpost with his staff. His aide who was killed tweeted the night before that he had seen the local “security” photographing the building and wondered if they would all be murdered, but nothing was done to provide any more security.

It was the policies of the US government with its refusal to defend against the Islamic terrorists that led to his death.

Yesterday, AQ issued a communique, which I read in the Spanish press, that said that anyone who meets any American ambassador or emissary must follow the example of “the descendants of Omar Al Mujtar (the Libyans)” and kill him. They also said that their objective was to drive US embassies out of any “Muslim countries” and that Muslims in the US should attack diplomats and diplomatic facilities in the US as well because “they had a better opportunity to do so.”

After doing a bit of checking, Canada has a mission in Tripoli with about 8 people, nothing in Benghazi.
I haven’t found yet that they pulled their people out of the Tripoli office the week before.

I find it -- a little the glaring question of a 9/11 date. It's just too many coincidences here.

I wish everyone would stop pussy-footing and just call it as it is:

A delibirate attack on the USA on the anniversary of the most despicable and deady attack, September 11.

The attacks were pre-planned for this day. We should be more than outraged!

Thanks for all the information. Yes, I remember reading that he was there to attend a dedication or something.

“His aide who was killed tweeted the night before that he had seen the local “security” photographing the building and wondered if they would all be murdered, but nothing was done to provide any more security”

I thought that happened just a few hrs prior, because he said, something like, if we don’t get killed tonite, and they were.

I’m afraid the fact that he may have been too trusting, doesn’t absolve him from all responsibility.
I don’t think this was his first trip to Benghazi, and he’s aware of the protection he has or doesn’t have.

It was certainly a very dangerous consulate and blame can be spread all around, beginning at the State Dept.

The Canadians may have had intelligence, but we didn’t have much. I read yesterday that the CIA was pulled out of all the “Arab Spring” countries, at the orders of Obama, about 6 months ago. This came out because they are feeling unfairly blamed for having dropped the ball, when in reality they weren’t there anyway.

The embassy in Cairo had received a warning from some source in the State Dept about possible unrest (blaming the film!), which is why they were ready to go with their apologetic statement. They don’t seem to have increased their security, though.

I think I heard or read that the Cairo embassy has 100 to 150 people in it and they evacuated it a couple days before, except for security personnel

Col. David Hunt talks about the ROE and other dreadful mistakes.

Plus- CNN is reporting:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/15/world/meast/libya-diplomats-warning/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Three days before the deadly assault on the United States consulate in Libya, a local security official says he met with American diplomats in the city and warned them about deteriorating security.

Jamal Mabrouk, a member of the February 17th Brigade, told CNN that he and a battalion commander had a meeting about the economy and security.

He said they told the diplomats that the security situation wasn’t good for international business.

“The situation is frightening, it scares us,” Mabrouk said they told the U.S. officials. He did not say how they responded.

What they’re saying is there was intelligence, but not that we would act on.

Absolutely!! The intelligence didn’t have the exact time the assault was going to happen, how many attackers, what kind of weapons. I mean how could the intelligence be actionable without all the minute details reflected? /s

Just search “Canada closes embassy” and you’ll get a few hits. It was in the news the week before the attacks and I haven’t heard a peep about it since. It doesn’t give imminenet attacks as a reason, but the timing is there...

Livius’ reply is spot on. We cannot know every minute decision made in the process, but it's nuts to pretend that this wouldn't happen somewhere.

Obama’s been spiking the ball for election purposes. His foreign policy actually encourages Islamists and punishes our allies. Obama’s ROEs and intelligence decisions undermine security.

No one is perfectly innocent, but these deaths and the subsequent coverup - “it was the movie” - lie at the feet of Barak Hussein Obama, Hilary plays a supporting role.
