DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS
Powerline ^ | SEPTEMBER 15, 2012 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 09/15/2012 2:19:36 PM PDT by lasereye

Here in the Northern Virginia ad market, Team Obama continues its merciless pounding of Mitt Romney. Although Team Romney says it is blitzing the airwaves in certain key areas, most of the ads in this market still come from Obama. And, as has been the case all season, the Obama ads are troublesome for Romney.

The latest I’ve seen (which apparently has been running for some time) quotes Romney to the effect that class size doesn’t matter in education. The ad also says that Romney supports the Ryan budget that “could cut education by 20 percent.” It concludes that Romney is simply out of touch with the educational needs of ordinary Americans, thus tying the ad to Obama’s larger theme that Romney is too wealthy to “get it.”

Romney hasn’t really said that class size doesn’t matter. Rather, his position is that class size is not determinative of educational outcomes and that other factors (parent involvement, teacher quality, good administrators) matter more.

Romney hasn’t really said that class size doesn’t matter. Rather, his position is that class size is not determinative of educational outcomes and that other factors (parent involvement, teacher quality, good administrators) matter more.

Romney bases this view on studies and on his experience as Massachusetts Governor. It is certainly a defensible position. Indeed, according to the Romney campaign, Obama’s own Secretary of Education has promoted teacher quality over class size as the key to educational outcomes.

But that’s not important right now. What matters is that this ad will alarm middle class voters in Northern Virginia and wherever else, in swing states, class sizes swell. Thus, it will cost Romney votes.

Frankly, every anti-Romney ad I’ve seen to date has struck me as effective. Team Obama seems well as its way to inflicting on Romney death by a thousand cuts.

I have yet to see a Romney ad, though I do live in Texas. What the hell is Mitt spending all his $ on?

There's this thing with Romney in it ~ in Northern VA but I didn't realize it was supposed to be an AD.

BTW, VA is a right to work state so the unions don't get a mandatory dues collection ~ plus there's no collective bargaining

I think Romney's peeps are avoiding Virginia so they can blame Conservatives for his loss.

Romney, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

That’s what I say Papa. If the GOP doesn’t learn from the mistakes of ‘08 and let what should be an easy win slip through their fingers, then they are a dumber and more out of touch party than imagined.

Mittens also appeared on Kelly Ripa and reaffirmed that Barry is a nice guy and that his favorite sleeping attire is nothing.
Holy cr*p.

Romney needs to learn to fight. People like a fighter - they think that if you fight in a campaign you will fight for them.
I hope he reads this. As a matter of fact, I’m going to some other blogs to make this comment. Maybe his campaign will listen.

Hey, Tex:
You misunderstand. For us Texans, It’s not about spending money, it’s all about getting donations from us. I have ordered T-shirts from Romney twice. Just after Romney captured the prize and again after the announcement of Paul Ryan. Still haven’t recieved any T’s or buttons.
Just sayin’.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms3QdGIzltU This should explain to you what may happen with a state law that requires collective bargaining and dues check off. VA is a right to work state and there’s no dues check off system here. You’ll enjoy the video.

“I remember hearing a teacher say “give me 15 students and I can teach them, give me 30 and I can’t”. I happened to overhear it when the teacher was talking to another parent. Just common sense really.”

I’m 58. For my first five grades there were always at least 40 in the class. The classes were well behaved as the teacher had something referred to as “the board of education.” It was a wooden paddle with holes cut in it so it whistled when she swung it. I remember the tune it played. Oddly, there was no ADD, as the fidgety students soon learned to sit down and behave. Amazing how behaved a large class can be with no drugs and only the threat of a piece of wood.

The fact that team Obama needs to run that many ads in northern Virginia says something. They are still trying to lock down their base.

I went to school in classrooms of 45 students in classes divided by ability tracking. We all did well. Take the problems out of the school. stop the mainstreaming and you can have the 45 kid classrooms of the past.

My elementry school had nine grades, 27 teachers, one principal, one part time assistant principal, one part time nurse, one secretary and two custodians. And about 900 children

I went to Lutheran parochial grammar school in Oak Park, Illinois. At that time, and for a few years thereafter, there were TWO GRADES in one room.

I thank God every day for the terrific education I got in that school. The large number of bodies in small classrooms worked because the principal, the teachers (and the parents who backed them up) were in control...... not the kids and their lawyers like today.

Bill Clinton won twice with the policy to never let the sun set without answering an attack on him.

Team Romney says this time is different through, because the election is 100% a referendum on Obama. So, they say, it is best for Romney to just turn the other cheek, and even praise Obama, in order to avoid shifting the focus away from the economy.

"Mittens also appeared on Kelly Ripa and reaffirmed that Barry is a nice guy and that his favorite sleeping attire is nothing."

Are you serious??

How can he win an election if he doesn't even know the nature of the person he's running against? And as for his sleeping habits, I could have gone the rest of my life without that visual...ugh.

Is willard looking to run for senate by chance? I guess it could be a replay of 2008 in having the presidential race fund the senate one.
