GOP to Romney: Why Aren't You Winning?

Republican activists are incredulous: Why can't Republican Mitt Romney seem to break open a tight race with President Barack Obama given the nation's sluggish economy and conservative enthusiasm to beat the Democrat?

"He ought to be killing Obama, and he's clearly not doing that," said 32-year-old R.J. Robinson, one of the thousands of activists attending the annual Values Voters Summit this weekend. "He should be doing better."

Added Mike Garner, a 27-year-old hawking "Reagan was right" buttons at the meeting: "If Romney loses this election, the party really needs to do some soul-searching."

Their sentiments were echoed in interviews with more than a dozen GOP activists and social conservative leaders who attended the annual gathering focused on social and cultural issues and sponsored by the Family Research Council.

The summit was filled with rhetoric meant to fire up the party's base voters. Romney needs them to turn out in force at the polls in November and, between now and then, to convince others to do the same through extensive get-out-the-vote grassroots canvassing in swing-voting states...

The polls likely reflect fact. While any rational thinker sees Obama’s presidency as a disaster, his alignment with the media is a nearly insurmountable advantage — probably worth about 5-7 percentage points. The “undecided”, independents and “moderates” typically don’t get their news from right-leaning media outlets, and believe what they hear from MSNBC, NBC and CBS. Romney’s financial edge and mostly correct messaging is essentially neutralized by this phenomenon. From this point of view Romney’s only real failing to date is his team’s inability to overcome the media brazen left-wing assault (as Reagan did).

Thanks for the reminder about Chick-Fil-A. The Chick-Fil-A appreciation day was a true grass-roots phenomenon and I believe an indicator of how Election Day will turn out.

The turnout for Chick-Fil-A caught mainstream media flat-footed. They were stunned. They didn't see it coming. None of their bogus "polls" measure the discontent out there. When the so-called counter-protest (kiss-in) flopped, the media quickly moved on to other stories and haven't mentioned it since.

That's okay, they will hear from us once again on November 6th.

In the meantime, Team Romney has yet to put the wheels on its wagon.

Are you going to continue to spam this thread with negativity? Problem with the Cult of Personality Palinsitas they still cannot get over she was smarter than they were and decided not to enter this contests and have her head handed to her. Romney is your nominee, he’s quantitatively better than Obama, I know that is not saying much but instead of being a contrarian, negative neigh-bob let’s not deliberately spam every poll thread with the chicken little act. It gets old and does not add anything to the discussion.

SNL has set their tone for the season by skewering Romney and making him look like a naive fool. They mildly mocked Bamster last night but nothing like Mittens.

I don’t agree that Newt would be in better shape than R and R are right now.

I totally agree Obama has to perform one heck of a illusionist’s trick to make himself look like an effective leader.

You have to understand.....the last thing the bums, Marxists, liberals, communists, socialists, liberal women, minorities and welfare recipients want is a LEADER!

A leader will be like a strict father and mother who will make them do what they don’t want to do. They don’t want to be made to conform to the rules and laws of society so they like a community organizer (AKA troublemaker) to lead them so they can be free to do what they like without reservation or fear.

He is right though tart...they are using 2008 models which do show historic Democrat turnout as a percentage ...something I don’t think will be the case this go around

even though overall voting in 2008 was record setting in sheer volume

and for anyone who follows polls here knows...I am one of the few who actually thinks polls have been as an average...very accurate well since Tom Dewey

I think this election unless they tighten samply as Rass does that the polls taken at this juncture will have been proven to be inaccurate

and as many say...with purpose

i think GOP turnout will be less than 2008 for Dems and more for GOP...but not up to 2010 levels

This is an organized attempt by the media to control the outcome by making people believe again in Dope & No Change. Keep fighting Freepers it aint gonna work out for them come November.

Off-topic, but after such a huge kerfuffle, how’s the Missouri Senate race going? Seems to have dropped off the radar screens....

I think that's about as close to accurate as you're going to get.

I'm not sure what to make of this other than people should not become complacent. Keep in mind that this is from The Mackinac center for public policy (By way of Michigan Capitol Confidential) which is pretty firmly in Romney's corner.

“If we lose this election, America as we know it is done, fin, finito.”

The problems Mr. Romney is having are due to more than the fact that he is Mitt Romney, who might be considered as a good candidate or a bad one.

Rather, they are indicative of the demographic and political divisions that have been occurring in America over the last few decades.

There seems to be no possible way to bridge the gap between these two factions. One stands either on one side or the other (that’s logical, considering the contrast between the two philosophies). Reconciliation is out of the question, for either side views the other as evil, irrational, insane, or some combination of all three.

I call it America’s second “Great Divide”. It’s a fundamental conflict between those who wish to remain independent from government, and those who would fully “submit” to government. And right now, the latter cohort is gaining the upper hand over the former, due to the increase of their numbers.

These changes in America will not be easily slowed or stopped — and “reversing” them may be out-of-the-question (how many in this forum still actually believe the illegals will -ever- be “sent back”?).

It looks like each Republican candidate for the presidency in the years to come will face an ever-tougher row to hoe to win. In too many states, the numbers just “aren’t there” any more...

R up by 8 without messed up sampling with polls.

But, he should be up 15 points IMO.

In 1980 this nation was 80% non Hispanic Caucasian

Today it is 65% non Hispanic Caucasisn

and the Democrats garner 2/3rds of that 15% difference easy of minority population increase

never again unless things change cataclysmal in favor of the conservative vote will 1984 be replicated or Nixon in 1972 either

we did this to ourselves voluntarily for one reason...so as not to be considered bigoted

we gave away our nation and culture

people here think we can prevail simply through the voting booth are delusional

the demographics of today will seem great compared to 50 years from now

to be honest though...we knew how blacks voted but it was not a complete given by any means that such a majority of HY-spanics would be so leftist and believers in socialism and also vote so anti Anglo...they have bought into the same minority victim-preference as blacks..we were selling it afterall...the GOP as bad as anyone

I could tell by 2001 or so and was shouted down here...banned even for awhile

We have two options:

Moderate to where they will vote for us as a majority

or start having a lot more conservative raised cracker babies

and I don't see “gotta have my career” white women going for that or their sissy husbands having the meddle

white women today simply will not reproduce like their agrarian great grannies did or like latino women do

hence..we will become a latin American culture soon enough...my great grandkids will for sure see this come

but latino women will slow down..richer and lazier about getting pregnant ..less inclined...but that won't stop the juggernaut

we already passed the tipping point...the last decade...thanks in large part to the GOP doing nothing about our borders and illegals

“I just can’t see Obama going over 48%, and I’m being generous.”

The very fact that an America-hating Islamic communist as toxic to freedom as Obama could garner 48% of Americans to vote for what he represents, should be enough to chill you to your bones...

Well send a message to your K Street overlords that backing wishy-washy politicians often turn “puritans” off because moderates look like fools in the face of truth.

Most “puritans” believe votes are earned, not a reaction towards some “opposition” where the only recourse is voting for less evil plus do not suffer political fools lightly.

Your milquetoast Party leadership gives us crap while you complain about people not likeing crap, whatever floats your boat I guess.

Because, make no mistake, four more years of OTrauma, and America is a cooling corpse.

“Hate to break it to you, bub, but the GOP-E has backstabbed, snubbed, and undermined Conservatives so much to clear the way for Romney that there is no enthusiasm for him within the base, even with Ryan on the ticket.”

So how we are supposed to react? I hate to break it to you, but Romney’s policies will be much better than what we have now. I also hate to tell you this, but the moment one of “ours” writes something demoralizing, the left piles on - on our own web sites - trying to create an atmosphere that suppresses votes.
