While i do believe that most polls are over sampling democrats, i think it's clear Romney would lose if the election were held today...Rasmussen has him up only one but the swing state picture is much worse when you look at the individual states...especially Ohio. We are kiddig ourselves if we think were going to match the 2010 turnout model with Obama at the top of the ticket. It will probably be somewhere between 2008 and 2010.
The only time Romney made progress in the polls was when he added Ryan to the ticket. THats the one of the few times he has sowed any guts in this campaign.....
Mitt, unshackle Ryan and start attaking Obama hard, because if you continue this McCain style campaign you are headed for the same result.

Think about this, McCain picks Palin and loses (no fault of Palin) and Romney picks Ryan, and is literally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory,by doing absolutely nothing to win?
The sign I am looking for, and hoping for, is that one of the "surprises" R2 makes, is to get Palin and the TP fired up to act? If Palin endorses late in the game, it would solidify millions of voters to act/move.

Mitt has to take the gloves off (like he did to his Republican opponents). I don’t think this will cost him any votes from independents. They already know the country’s in deep trouble and would probably welcome some aggressive tactics and bold moves.

I do think the economy would improve significantly under Mitt. But agree with you about not expectating much else in the way of dramatic results.
At this point, however, we are in a sinking ship about to capsize and we’ll all drown if we don’t at least stop the leaks, replace the “captain”, and right the ship. If we can accomplish that we have a chance to make it into port for another voyage.

Obama has run a personally negative campaign on Romney coloring him as a tax evader with offshore accounts, greedy, and uncaring about people. Basically Obama has no record to run on and the surprising thing is he has temporarily with the help of the MSM changed this from a referendum on a dismally performing incumbent to a choice between two personalities.Romney needs to go negative by saturating the airwaves that the economy is abysmal and at the fail point because of one person - Obama and here are the reasons why he has brought it to the fail point. He needs to stay with that message so Obama cannot foist this thing back to Bush. Eventually it will sink in.

Those of us that are paying attention see these polls, which is 99.9% of the concern trolls problem, and see a deliberate effort to poll more Democrats than GOP/Ind, banking on a turnout from 2008 that CANNOT be repeated due to dissatisfaction with a sitting president that has a lousy economy and an electorate that by a margin of 68% says that the nation is going in the wrong direction.
And with that, he manages to get at most 2-4% point leads in those polls that is oversampling Dems by 10-20%.
That is not “wishful thinking”, that is just plain fact, that a president does not win in these conditions no matter how many articles you read on MSNBC or CNN.
It is not 2008 anymore.
It’s not turnout models that made Ras change his sample, its PARTY AFFILIATION that has changed now from 2008.
More people identify themselves as Republican.

The problem is the base, us, see this as an existential contest requiring an ideologically clear campaign. Romney and, to a lesser extent, Ryan see the issue as competence requiring a technocratic solution. We’re just not going to get a fire-breathing “death to the enemies of freedom” -style message from Romney. Nevertheless, we need to first get Obama out so we can live to fight the good fight another day; Romney is the best weapon at hand.

Mitt sit down with Palin and have a meeting of the mind. agree to her having a meaningful cabinet position and then turn her loose. let her barnstorm where she thinks it’s needed. Romney should refuse to debate Obama on the grounds that the moderators are way to biased towards Obama.

Yes. To Romney this is just a primary against a fellow left-winger. In fact Romney’s speech is the same as Hillary’s in the Democratic Primary: I’ll manage the welfare state better than Obama; the details of my socialist programs are better. Hillary seemed more scared of an Obama presidency than Romney is of 4 more years.
(Now real fear, the GOP-E had that when Huckabee won Iowa in 2008.)

GOP has to face it. They picked a string of small idea Republicans, starting with no-vision Bush. McCain and Romney are one-trick ponies - for McCain it’s war and for Romney it’s money. No Eisenhowers, Nixons or Reagans who were unafraid to meet the enemy face to face.

I think you are missing the point. The political debates as run by the liberal media of late are not debates in a real sense. They are a comedy act with Romney the straight man and Romney can play that so well that he most certainly will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Now change the parameters and have Romney tell the mods to shut the hell up and enter into a real debate one on one with Obama. That way he avoids the mods subtly poking fun of him and leaves Obama floundering with out soft questions from the mods making him look good.
