Todd Akin’s Wife Compares GOP Abandonment to Rape, Tyranny
http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/09/todd-akins-wife-compares-gop-against-him-to-1776-tyranny-and-rape.php ^ | 9-17-12 | Kleefeld

Rep. Todd Akin’s wife, Lulli Akin, says the Republican Party’s attempts to push her husband out of the Missouri Senate race — over his false assertion that women who are raped rarely get pregnant — are like rape itself. RELATED: Akin TV Ad Buy Canceled — For Failure To Pay Station

She also believes the GOP’s abandonment is on par with the tyranny that launched the American Revolution.

Akin’s wife isn’t the first one to compare Akin’s explosive rape comments, and the ensuing fallout, to rape: Bryan Fischer said the party’s treatment of the embattled candidate had made Akin “a victim of forcible assault.”

Lulli Akin made the charge in a new National Journal profile, which reveals a family affair of a campaign — Akin’s campaign manager is his son, and Lulli is also a key player.

Lulli Akin says in the profile that she is not turned off by the refusal of national Republicans to contribute money to the race. She says small donations — and God’s will — will help her husband win:

“God can increase,” she said, citing the “Feeding of the 5,000” — a Gospel miracle in which Jesus uses five small barley loaves and two small fish to feed a multitude. The campaign will take small contributions, “respect them, and say ‘God, multiply it. Make it pay,’ ” Lulli Akin said. “It brought us through the primary, same way. We’re gonna see it again, because God wants to be honored.”

Lulli Akin echoed her husband’s disdain for Republican leaders:

Lulli Akin said that efforts to push her husband out of the race threaten to replace elections “by the people and for the people” with “tyranny, a top-down approach.” She added, “Party bosses dictating who is allowed to advance through the party and make all the decisions—it’s just like 1776 in that way.”

She cited colonists who “rose up and said, ‘Not in my home, you don’t come and rape my daughters and my … wife. But that is where we are again. There has been a freedom of elections, not tyranny of selections since way back. Why are we going to roll over and let them steamroll us, be it Democrats or Republicans or whomever?”

Todd Akin said his wife’s comparisons to 1776 were “a little more grandiose than the way I would say it” — but he did say that there is a “this tremendous sense of uprising I feel among the people I talk to.”

I call Texas home, although my Grandmother was quite possibly the biggest Cards fan I have ever known, simply because in her day, that was the baseball team you got on the AM radio here in Texas... Huckabee has everything to gain and nothing to lose with Mr. Akin. He woun’t commit a single penny to the Akin campaign, but if he does win, it will all be because of Mike Huckabee. Just ask him...

Well I too am a Cards fan, love Bob Gibson, and his team mates. When I was young 10-15 I would go out to the car in the evening so I could listen to the broadcast of their games.

Now I live south of Kansas City, and half hearted root for the Royals. But have always admired Nolan Ryan. He seemed to get through baseball as a well functioning composed, put together person.

Claire is who needs to be defeated, she is akin to a barren sow wallowing in the hotbed of politics, pretending to be something she is NOT.

I think I said what I want to say about HuckabeeHound, I don't like him and I sure do not trust him. He is the clean version of old bjClinton from hope.

I live not too far from Alvin, and used to dine at a place on old Hwy 35 called Park’s Cafe on Fridays. Nolan Ryan owned several area banks, and would dine there sometimes as well, usually taking one or more of his bank managers. Everybody in the place knew him, many having grown up with him and he was just folks. He is really a great guy, and a shrewd businessman.

Ok then. To quantify the idiocy of the statement, I give it a 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. I hope that is helpful to you for me to reduce it to a number.

Did you even watch the video? The only idiocy here is yours!

You pose like he was making a catagorical statement when what he was doing was (rather diffidently I might add) trying to dissuade from making "rape" the trump card justifying abortion.

And then people like you have the unmitigated gall to accuse him of harming the pro-life cause by staying in the race.

If the guy was advocating burkas or chastity belts you might be justified, but as it is you're just carrying water for team McCaskill.

His argument was idiotic and based on ignorance.

One need not, and is idiotic, to suggest that people born of rape are so rare, while inventing a biological mechanism to prevent it, that one need not deal with the issue.

All that needs to be said is that punishing a child for the crimes of the father is an outdated and barbaric practice.

But Akin had to be an idiot. And now his wife on the campaign payroll has to talk about rape? She is a moron. As is he for hiring her.

So support him. I am not trying to stop you. Campaign donations to Akin go to pay his wife and son and they apparently need the money. So pay up!

But Akin had to be an idiot.

And you have to be the avenging angel, don't you?

He wasn't making an "argument," and the only "ignorance" he showed was to not bow in homage to leftist sensibilities.

He didn't "invent" a biological mechanism, he extrapolated from one. And it's one that is NOT without merit.

Okay, so he didn't carry himself is such a way as not to commit the heinous sin of embarrassing you in front of your liberal friends. He didn't parse his statements well enough to avoid their criticism.

I say, better his mistakes than your effete duplicity

Remind me again of "how rare" (another 9.5 out of ten, maybe) he said children born of rape are.....

No, at this point the only thing that explains your antipathy is a need to "save face" and while you don't affect my ability to support Akin, you sure are good at making a waste of what I send him. And how am I to know you aren't going to sabotage any other conservative candidate that hurt your chances to eat lunch at the table with the "mean girls."

Then go with the “ shut the whole thing down” argument! Let’s see the research you are relying upon. This should be amusing!

Excuse me? Nobody said he was correct, but then nobody but you and yours are trying to have him professionally executed for offending feminazi sensibilities.....

Nobody knows the potential for pregnancy from rape better than me, (my brother, being conceived that way) and you don't see me screeching like bridezilla with PMS.

At least he was expending some kind of effort against making rape an automatic death sentence for babies, which is more than I can say for you!

You screech like an ignorant child.

When the subject of abortion of children conceived of rape comes up one can CORRECTLY point out that less than 1% of abortions are reportedly from rape, one can CORRECTLY point out that children are not usually punished for the crimes of their father in civilized nations - OR one can pretend that such people don't or shouldn't exist if the rape was “legitimate”.

Akin the combover idiot decided on pretending that such people (thousands every year in America) do not or should not exist if the rape was “legitimate”.

Is Palin a “feminazi”? She was offended as well and opined that Akin should withdraw from the race.

You said...

“He didn't “invent” a biological mechanism, he extrapolated from one. And it's one that is NOT without merit.”

Please explain the merits of his argument (the one he apologized for and even he was smart enough to figure out was indefensible and wrong) - what biological mechanism allows women to try to “shut the whole thing down”. What research do you have to show the merits of this argument?

As Akin would have it, perhaps the rape you are speaking of in your past was not “legitimate”.

You keep trying to gin up outrage like he was advocating female circumcision, but his statement simply doesn’t support your histrionics.

The reason you keep quoting snippets and liberal talking points is because any fair minded assessment of his error, and he did acknowledge it was an error, just doesn’t warrant the kind of lynching you want to dish out.

As for Sarah Palin’s opinion, I disagree with her and won’t hold it against her. But she sure hasn’t tried to contrive the sound and fury you have over it.

Furthermore, what kind of petty little troll asks to “explain the merits” of a statement acknowledged as error, in support of their continued belligerence?

The guy erred in extrapolating from stress induced infertility. Okay. What’s next? Are you going to call for the imprisonment of creationists?

You said his argument had merit. Explain the merit of his argument then.

You seem satisfied to try to make it personal and try to mind read and ascribe motives to me like an ignorant troll rather than discuss the merits of the argument.

What are the merits if the argument that women can try to “shut the whole thing down”. What research are you relying upon?

It would appear TPTB think your "Trayvon Two-Step" makes my "trolling" a little more substantive than you'd like to think.

What? Do you have a brain tumor? Asking someone to "explain the merits" of an acknowledged error is analogous to asking to prove a negative.

The issue here is not defending Akin's mistake, it's finding out why you have such a pathological need to make a pariah out of him for it.

Seriously, your histrionic rejection of anything that even hints at being exculpatory for Akin is making you look like the Child Protective Services Gestapo trying to convict the innocent to keep from admitting they're on a witch hunt.
