CRANSTON, R.I.—School officials in the Rhode Island city of Cranston have ended their traditional father-daughter dances and mother-son ballgames, saying the activities are a violation of state gender discrimination law. School Superintendent Judith Lundsten tells the Providence Journal ( http://bit.ly/Pv6SzE) the move came in response to a complaint from a single mother, who brought her case to the American Civil Liberties Union after her daughter wasn't allowed to attend a father-daughter dance.

Lundsten says school attorneys found while federal gender discrimination laws exempt such events, Rhode Island's law does not.

” Lundsten says school attorneys found while federal gender discrimination laws exempt such events, Rhode Island’s law does not.”

Good reason not to live in R.I.

There’d better be no damned GLBT clubs at that school. It excludes heterosexuality from their “tolerance” clique.

Enough already! Can we please just skip to the part where everyone is sealed in a pod with tubes running in/out of them (ala matrix) so they only get what the government deem is good for all and all life can be sucked out?

The baby daddy doesn't get visitation rights to see his daughter? Or does the girl have "two mommies"?

the ACLU laughed at the White mother of a Black son when she was denied entry to a Kwanza celebration in Boston. But they let him in.

So that law-abiding citizens can become prey for criminals.

A single Mom went to the ACLU because she couldnt take her daughter to it,

I understand the further degrading of the two natural parent family principle(and naturally fathers) in this suit, but are parent child dances healthy for the kids anyway? Shouldnt they be dancing with kids their own age, preferably the opposite sex?

I know dancing with my Mom was the last thing I wanted to do as a child, or adult. Doing that in public would ruin a boy for life, or at least his school life, unless he moved.

their traditional father-daughter dances and mother-son ballgames...

What's the moonbat issue here? They want it to be "parent-entity-daughter dance" and "other-parent-entity-son ballgame"?

There simply is no end to this madness. I'll have to discuss this with my bride-to-be love of my life, my doorknob. I'm sure my doorknob would jump (out of the door socket) at the chance to go to a ballgame with my son.

Who can blame the daughter? It must be awkward, dancing with a turkey baster.

a single mother, who brought her case to the American Civil Liberties Union after her daughter wasn't allowed to attend a father-daughter dance

The lawsuit should have been against herself, since it's her fault that her daughter doesn't know who the father is. It must take an incredibly bitter loser to deny whatever kids want to attend a dance like this the opportunity simply because she's not enough of a parent to have arranged her life so that her daughter would have two parents.

How to win friends and influence who will decide not to be your child’s friend. Obviously, you find a father figure, grandfather, uncle, brother, family friend, etc to accompany the girl. My girls went to such dances with their Dad as well as with their Granddad when their Dad couldn’t get out of his on-call work schedule. No big deal. Also there were other girls who were invited to share their friend’s Dad as for whatever reason they didn’t have a Dad to attend. Now this is creative thinking, instead of the SHUT’EM DOWN because I don’t fit the description type of thinking that this woman is doing. It’s hateful and vengeful against the Majority of others who are different then you.

Skip the school. Do you really need a school in order to have a father-daughter dance?

Let the government schools do what they want. Send your kids there if you so choose.

And then let’s do what we want. Have a Bible study club. Have a football team. Have private instruction for students who want to learn something besides how wonderful it is to be sexually disoriented.

This ain’t rocket science. It’s self-reliance.

Next she’ll probably be suing for her daughter to use the boys’ urinals.

the move came in response to a complaint from a single mother...

The standard response to such busy-body complaints should be:

"Your objection is noted. Now, go out and get 51% of the parents to agree with you and then come back and see us. When that happens, we'll suspend the activities that so offend you."

No one in any school administration role has the guts any longer to make such a statement.

Good!

School should be about education not this 'feel good' social nonsense.

If a community wants these events, they should fund them without diverting tax dollars.

Let's get rid of spring formals, homecoming and sports teams too.

That’s right, Single Mother. You don’t have a husband, so go ruin a tradition for everyone else.
