A condemned Ohio inmate who weighs at least 480 pounds wants his upcoming execution delayed, saying his weight could lead to a 'torturous and lingering death.'
Ronald Post, who shot and killed a hotel clerk in northern Ohio almost 30 years ago, said his weight, vein access, scar tissue and other medical problems raise the likelihood his executioners would encounter severe problems.
He's also so big that the execution gurney might not hold him, lawyers for Post said in federal court papers filed on Friday.

If memory serves, the last guy to claim the weight defense was to be hanged in Washington State.

Rupe shot Olympia bank tellers Twila Capron and Candace Hemmig to death at point-blank range during a 1981 robbery that netted about $4,000.Juries twice sentenced him to death, but higher courts overturned the sentences for various reasons. In 1994, a federal judge upheld his conviction but agreed with Rupe's contention that at more than 400 pounds, he was too heavy to hang because of the risk of decapitation. Rupe argued that hanging would constitute cruel and unusual punishment.
He died in the can of liver disease. The coroner estimated he was down to 260 or 270 by the time of his death in 2008.
It's worthy of note that Saddam Hussein's half-brother Barzan Ibrahim became two quarter-brothers as a result of the executioners miscalculating the drop.
