Tim Pawlenty quit as co-chair of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign on Thursday to become one of Wall Street's top lobbyists in Washington. Pawlenty, a former governor of Minnesota, will lead the Financial Services Roundtable.

The move came with Romney's campaign struggling to find its stride with just seven weeks left before Election Day. Polls show the former Massachusetts governor running neck and neck with President Barack Obama in a contest both sides predict will be very close

John Bolton would be awesome

Indeed....hope President Romney chooses him as SOS.

Please - no more pro-fag agenda Secretaries of State. Bolton is 100% on board with homos in the military, same sex marriage, the whole deal.

Re: “Is this how the fall of Rome felt?”

Worse.

The Romans weren’t allowed to vote for their own destruction.

I read it as “Wall Street types would not blow their money on a top Republican as a lobbyist if the smart money was expecting a Democrat to win”

I think that's a fair reading.

If romney prevails I think he could be the last republican president. There are too many entitled, illegal and dead voters to overcome.

“Im short, I want Romney to lose,....”

That, of course, is your choice. But, while this is still a free country, I am going to express my opinion and exercise free speech as defined in the Bill of Rights.

I hope you know that I, as a free person, consider your attitude to be no better than the 47% that will vote adoringly for the Communist in the White House. I hope you enjoy whatever gratification you gleam from your decision.

This race is about removing a cancer from this country. If you haven’t noticed, we are declining rapidly...socially, economically, internationally and above all else spiritually.

Our Constitution (and our Bill of Rights) has always been the only thing that kept us from falling into socialism and communism. Unfortunately, you now have a President that despises the Constitution and spits on it at every opportunity. And you, out of some off the wall notion that you want to punish the Republicans, will vote for this Communist President.

There have been a lot of people, really good people, that have died to defend that Constitution and this country. I hope you remember them when you sit idly by and watch Obama finalize the death blows to this once great Country.

Nothing is perfect, there is no magic candidate...just flawed humans that sometime rise above the masses to pull us into our destiny. You and I own this country.

It is our responsibility to fight it out every day to save the USA. But, if you have tyrant at the helm, it will be very difficult to turn things around. At least, with Romney, we still have a fighting chance,

If Mitt Romney were to take the powerful approach, as you suggest, he’d likely lose most of his independent support, who are reluctant Republicans at best.

That seems to be the strategy - leak a few red meat comments to keep the conservatives on board (since, given who the opponent is, they don't need a lot of convincing, anyway) and maintain an image as the calm, experienced public servant the independents aren't scared of (and they are plenty scared of Obama.)

Never heard that about him.

Big disappointment if it is true.

Unfortunately it is true. Some time ago a couple/three articles were posted directly quoting him about fag marriage and fags in the mil. He was 100%, enthusiastically on board with the whole shebang.

Okay, I've got to address some of this out-of-order.

First off, I never said anything about voting for a socialist/communist. In fact the reason I will not vote Romney is precisely because I believe him to be a socialist. (A Fabian socialist as opposed to a hard-line socialist, but a socialist nonetheless.)

Second, it never was our Constitution that prevented decline into Communism: it was a moral core that rejected state-legalized extortion and theft. (And make no mistake, communisim is theft extorted by the guns of the State.) The Constitution expressly allows Eminent Domain, and the 2005 Kelo decision made the qualifications imposed thereon of no effect. As Madison said [IIRC], Our constitution is suitable only for a moral people.

Third, the Republican party has shown itself to be unworthy of trust: remember NY-23 of a few years ago? Remember the teleprompted "ayes have it" from the convention a few weeks ago? Remember those proposed rule-changes themselves? I believe that all of those indicate the real heart of the party.

Fourth, and this is a nit to pick, the Constitution and Rill of Rights do not define rights; they are (a) a charter on how government is to be structured [including limits], and (b) legal guarantees of pre-existing rights. {It is an important distinction; if it defines rights then those rights naturally come from the Constitution and therefore the government; but a guarantee can be about something not originating from guarantee-maker, like escrow.}

This race is about removing a cancer from this country. If you haven’t noticed, we are declining rapidly...socially, economically, internationally and above all else spiritually.

I agree that there is a cancer, it is Statism: Replacing God with the [power of the] State. -- But you are quite wrong, it is not a change from government to people that is needed, it is a change of the [hearts of the] people themselves. (See 2 Chronicles 7:14 and James 1-5)

I also believe that Romney is a Statist; I do not believe that he will do anything to remove any of the powers the government has assumed.

It is our responsibility to fight it out every day to save the USA.

Agreed. The best way to do that is to behave in a manner that is conductive to Truth and Justice. (I do not believe that Romney has either of those in mind.)

But, if you have tyrant at the helm, it will be very difficult to turn things around. At least, with Romney, we still have a fighting chance,

*shrug* -- I'm not responsible for the actions of the president, or the congress, or my State, or even my own father; I am responsible for only me (unmarried).

I don't believe that a fighting chance is dependent on Romney; I don't believe that we have a chance of "turning things around" with Romney; I think too many people will see the president-change as "change" and then forget to watch what the government does. Remember, a Congress can remove the President from office, and it's Congress that makes the laws; so, in the end, 'President' isn't nearly as impactful of a position as many make it out to be.

I hope you know that I, as a free person, consider your attitude to be no better than the 47% that will vote adoringly for the Communist in the White House. I hope you enjoy whatever gratification you gleam from your decision.

The satisfaction I gleam is this: my conscience will not bother me about voting for someone I don't trust. (Rather that should be "someone I trust to do the wrong thing.")

I read it as, “I was only helping your campaign in the hopes of getting the V.P. slot. As soon as you picked Ryan, I started sending the ol’ resume out.”

That explains why Bolton enthusiastically endorsed Romney early in the primary then. He’s a domestic RINO I guess.

have to do with Romneys choosing self interest over what is best for the Country.

huh? Are the two forever mutually exclusive? Is there ever a case where someone's self interest might not also be the best path?

Is it your contention that Mr. Obama is such a paragon of altruism, that his ego is any less than Mr. Romney's? I doubt you could become a good president of anything without a bit of self interest.

"The satisfaction I gleam is this: my conscience will not bother me about voting for someone I don't trust."

Precisely. And you're right on Romney's statism. If he wins, he'll have a slight opportunity to change my mind. But I don't trust him.

I have no illusions about Obama and the damage he has done to this Country. My issue was that when Romney and his staffers started the attacks on Sarah Palin,in the hopes of the GOP candidates would lose and he could run again in 4 years,he did not care about the damage Obama would do. As I originally said he got his wish and we got Obama. I will not thank him for the last 4 years by voting for him.

So instead of emulating Reagan's 1980 campaign tactic of saturating the air waves (The exact opposite of a "milquetoast" strategy) with the "Fed Up" ad and the "Iran" ad etc... Romney should smile at the polls like Dewey along with joining McCain along with Dole, (And the previously mentioned Dewey) who sat on their thumbs letting the opposition destroy their character/issues "knowing"/arrogant that the independents will not vote for the aggressive crazy guy? Hmm...

If you want to win you go after the prize, not sit back and expect rationality to prevail because with the American electorate, it usually does not happen automatically.

Hmmmm. Campaign staffers don’t announce their resignation less than 6 weeks out unless something is afoot.

I think this is a jettisoning. True to willard style in a very nice manner with a plum job at the end. Loyal to those who are loyal to him.

My God what a Machiavellian!

Well, there is a lot here to discuss. I don’t think I am going there because, just like the 47%, it seems as though you have some strong arguments why you feel the way you do.

Some day I would love to discuss the Constitution with you. I think it would be a great discussion because #1, most people don’t give a flip about the Constitution and #2, most people don’t even know what is in it.

But, you have obviously read it and we could discuss the fine points. I am not sure if we agree on some of the points you raised and are saying the same things differently or if we might not agree at all.

I am sorry you feel the way you do. It is funny because I am not voting for a party or a person really. I guess I am voting for a chance to help my country and to keep my way of life and beliefs intact. I hope you are wrong about Romney or at least somewhat wrong. I am willing to take that chance.

Consider me in the last ditch chance category here on FR.

Best wishes to you. Pray for our Nation.
