POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. —
Kristina Brown and her husband own Lakeside Guns Shop in Acworth, but they are in the process of building a $3.5 million gun range called The Governor's Club in Powder Springs.
Brown told Channel 2's Dave Huddleston the club will be state of the art and have a lounge that serves alcohol.
A new sub division is being built about 100 yards from the club and some home owners in the area off C.H. James Parkway and Elliot Road think having a gun range and alcohol in the same location is a bad idea.

The rule seems a bit harsh and in the end limits 2nd Amendment Rights.
Convince a power hungry, self anointed know it all liberal democrat that this will make it safe.
Alcohol is bad, guns are bad, and most everything else that brings personal pleasure is bad to a fruitcake liberal democrat God wannabe.
After all, personal responsibility unchecked in a free society is not acceptable to a democrat tyrant.

Neither alcohol, nor guns are bad. I'm no liberal; I'm a hunter and avid gun enthusiast, and I'm sure no teetotaler; BUT this rule makes perfect sense!!
Mixing intoxicants of ANY kind with weapons is an accident waiting to happen. I can't tell you how disgusted I get when I hear other guys brag about going hunting with Jack Daniels and shooting up all creation while drunk. (BTW for those of you who think that's part of the hunting experience—you're wrong. It's actually juvenile insanity!)
I used to shoot skeet at a club that had bottled beer for sale to club members. I didn’t have a shotgun at the time. I’d go shoot for a while, clean the club Citori, check it back in and have a beer or two talking guns with other club members in the clubhouse.
Wasn’t any big deal, never saw or heard of an incident of drunken idiocy. I went about once a week for a while, it was a very pleasant atmosphere. There were always lots of members there, and I don’t think that ANY of them would have put up with nonsense.
It never would have occurred to me to try to go back on the range when I’d had alcohol, so I don’t remember an explicitly stated rule against it, but I don’t doubt that there was one.

The guns aren’t the problem. It is driving home after that is far more risky, at least for DUI citations.
Think about it, how many LEOs belong to gun clubs. If they see someone knock down a few then head out to their car, they are pretty well obligated to intervene.
So their best bet would be that, as part of membership offer a shuttle ride home program, with a secure gun storage compartment. Maybe with a valet service to drive their vehicle home for them as well.
Doing it this way would be a real class act, and encourage their members to make a real day of it.
If they wanted to go for the gold, they could offer robotic gun cleaning while they were in the bar.
C’mon folks, get some sense! This no more limits the 2nd amendment than prohibiting the false cry of “FIRE” in a theater limits free speech!
No “Right” is absolute; not even the God-given right to life! The 2nd amendment doesn't give anyone the right to plink at cans with a neighbor's house directly beyond! A common-sense restriction on alcohol at a shooting range doesn't keep anyone from bearing arms if they wish.
I don’t think it’s such a good idea either. They should move the subdivision further away from the gun range.
I’ve found that I get a little relaxed after a few beers and my pool shooting generally improves, then gets worse after 5-7 beers. Maybe my gun shooting would improve with a couple beers?

Well, so far, nothing. We sell beer at our turkey shoot every weekend during winter. That's been going on for 50+ years.
So is driving a car and drinking.
Should we force all responsible person to sell their car if they are drinkers?
If an idiot is going to be irresponsible and tote a loaded weapon when they are "drunk" they are going to do it anyway because they are an idiot.
Personally, I would drink at the range if I was thirsty AFTER my sidearm was unloaded and in a lock box or my rifle cleared and cased.
Tossing the baby out with the bath water is a standard operation any more.
Great! Someone will get drunk and shoot their mouth off at the wrong time and get in trouble.
I used to belong to a range that did so - in New York. Obvious rule was imbibe ONLY AFTER range time.
If it’s not considered a problem in NY, it’s not a problem.

Not really. It’s a private business. They can refuse service to anyone. If you don’t like it you’re free to open up a gun range that allows alcohol consumption before, during, or after shooting. Have fun getting insurance on that.

Bar owners and barkeeps are routinely sued when someone *drinks ‘n drives* and there is atragic accident. I would think these club owners are putting themselves at great risk and they understand that fact.
