I hope the crippled guy becomes part owner of the HPD !

Well, he could - if he weren't dead.

There is no picture of the guy but I don't believe he was in a typical push type wheelchair. Let's say he was in a 300 pound plus his own weight motorized wheelchair instead. With that you can not just push one. With that you can literally pen someone to a wall. My wife did several hoods that way in a Target LOL. Depending on where the Joy Stick Control was located he could both maintain control of chair and the thought to be weapon.

Unless a person is familiar with all the different makes and models disabling one {disengaging the drive} takes guess work. Jazzy Chairs have a lever on the rear & a Permobil has the lever locate on the right hand side.

Yea understanding what a motorized wheelchair can do I can see how he could corner two officers. If he penned them by going frontward he would be well within stabbing rage.

The only advantage the officers could ever gain would have been if the could have possibly approached from the back which would not allow him to have harmed them.

From the history it sounded like he needed to be in a facility where there were several orderlies 24/7 there to assist. I've seen a 80 year old 4'10" woman with a cane give about 6 CNA's and Orderlies a good fight.

There's good cops, there's bad cops, and there is the factor that in the mid 1970's patients who needed to be in full staff facilities were turned loose on the street or in less staffed group homes. That so called human rights act done in the name of so called patients rights has caused a lot of patients with mental issues where they become a danger to others to be killed. The Cops do not usually have benefit of a persons mental illness history.

If you cannot tell that someone is waving a *pen* around when you are less than one foot away from him/her, and you cannot subdue a double amputee when you have your partner on site and your “assailant” is confined to a wheelchair, then you do not belong in police work.

Be careful what you defend. One day, you may be the victim, and who will defend you?

When the American people cheered at the murder of Terry Schiavo, it meant future killings of this kind.

BRAVO! Exactly! I always cite the sheeple cheering Waco and the storm trooper sticking the machine gun in Elian's face. And yes, Abu Ghraib.

This is not a matter of Obama or Bush or any politician. It is US. This society is sick and rotten to the core. IMHO, it started in January 1973. But, it probably started 120 years ago when the progressives started public schooling.

Actually, there is a picture of the amputee. The wheelchair appears to be in a "typical push type wheelchair" based on the image.

Yea the handle on the back looks like it but there are a few cheaper models with that also. I'm not taking up for the Cops. But I've seen a lot in my life both at Rehab Centers where head injuries, spinal cord, and stroke patients are.

I knew a patient in a nursing home I worked at that if you made the mistake of getting your head close to his feet could about kick your head off. No Warning. He gave me a good hard kick in the knees one time. He too was in a wheelchair. He was a head trauma patient from time in Nam.

I also saw a kid with a head injury hold off staff one night with a busted Coke Bottle. That was in a rehab unit not a group home. Venue means a lot as it determines who responds. Facility workers know the patients and know how to eventually gain control. Most group homes or assisted living facilities are one or two staff members usually untrained and high turnovers. They are not trained for dealing with those type issues nor are they staffed too do so.

Suicide by cop.

Imagine what it’d be like to suffer a stroke and as a result be paralyzed from the neck down, confined to bed, unable to speak or move - except maybe some feeble movement in a thumb and forefinger on one hand.

What if you decided your life was no longer worth living? What would you do? You couldn’t shoot yourself because nobody would give you a gun, and you couldn’t hold it if they did. You couldn’t jump out the window because you’re totally paralyzed except for that one thumb and forefinger and would find it absolutely impossible to get to a window to defenestrate yourself.

Not to worry. All you’d have to do is type out 9-1-1 with your tongue on your bedside phone in the hospital and when the cops arrived use your thumb and forefinger to wave your Bic at them in a threatening manner. They’d all empty their guns into you, afraid you might kill every one of them with your Bic pen, which later they would describe as having looked like a very big, and very well-sharpened KaBar.

Well said.. Today, a cop’s duty is to ‘protect and serve THE GOVERNMENT’ When I was a kid they protected and served WE THE PEOPLE. Politicians also changed accordingly.

[. . .a five-year veteran of the department. . .]

Thank goodness they dispatched an experienced cop. Rookies might have shot everybody in the neighborhood.

I'd take apart your "truths" one by one. However, based on your typing abilities, your lack of language skills and your beliefs, I'd be talking over your head.

You want us to vote for a Chicago pol? Chicago pols are thieves.

Having grown up in Chicago, bribed Chicago cops and aldermen, complained to the Cook County Election board about my dead-since-1940-grandfather still voting, and seeing the complaint vanish like a girl's fart in a tornado...

You want me to shrug off 60 years of experience and knowledge, and vote for a Chicago pol, regardless of skyrocketing unemployment, gas prices, and the deliberate destruction of the industry I worked in for 40 years... Go over to Democrat Underground. They do retarded. You'll feel happier, there.

Oh Lord, PLEASE! Make stupidity hurt! Amen

Was the pen mightier than the sword?

Yes, The pen mightier than the sword. But, a Glock comes out on top . . .

.

My only other thought was the cop must nave been losing the ass kicking contest.

Yet a civilian kills a young thug who was bashing his head against the pavement and is standing trial for murder in Florida. I guess that amputee forgot to buy some Skittles and watermelon juice.

A guy mauled by a train is either a railway worker, a stupid drunk or someone trying to hobo a bit.

His wife had been a friend of mine from before they got married. I recently had lunch with her, and she told me horror stories of the abuse she’s suffered since she divorced him. Not only has he abused his power, but other law enforcement agencies have been harassing her too.

“They had been called to the home after a caretaker there called and reported that the man in wheelchair was causing a disturbance.”

Never, ever call the police to your domicile for anything whatsoever. Circumstances will deteriorate to an even worse situation if you do.

Police are not your friends, marriage counselors, mediators, pet sitters, teen advisors, etc....

____________________________

Police are called to group homes all the time. there is not enough staff to manage them if a patient gets out of control and police are the normal backup. So are ambulance crews and the ER. This is one of the best reasons to consider going back to long term residential mental hosptials. You have trained staff there who can manage the out of control patients. And many mental patients get out of control often.
