Americans Are Sick of Media's Pro-Obama Bias
U.S.News & World Repor ^ | 9/21/12 | MARY KATE CARY

Posted on 09/23/2012 12:43:27 PM PDT by neverdem

This just in from the Gallup organization: Americans' distrust of the media has just hit a  new record, with six in 10 Americans saying they have "little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly." Forty percent say they have a "great deal" or a "fair amount" of trust, and I assume this is the same crowd who approve of the job Congress is doing. Where do they find these people?

Gallup says the 20-point difference between positive and negative views of the media is "by far" the highest Gallup has seen since it began asking the question in the 1990s. Among those who trust the media, 58 percent identify themselves as Democrats; 26 percent as Republicans; and most interestingly, 31 percent as independents. That means 69 percent of independents don't trust the media. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the implications of that:

[See a collection of political cartoons on the 2012 campaign.]

This year's decline in media trust is driven by independents and Republicans. Independents are sharply more negative compared with 2008, suggesting the group that is most closely divided between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney is quite dissatisfied with its ability to get fair and accurate news coverage of this election.

On the NBC News homepage for politics, there is a chart looking the number of mentions of each candidate on social media: As of yesterday, 30 percent who state an intention to vote for a candidate on social media sites intend to vote for Obama; 38 percent intend to vote for Romney. There have been nearly 33,000 opinions expressed about Obama: Of those, 40 percent are positive, 60 percent negative. Regarding Romney, 21,500 opinions have been posted: 51 percent positive, 49 percent negative. If these numbers are accurate, it tells me this: People aren't agreeing with what they're seeing and hearing from the mainstream media. And they feel strongly enough to post something online about it.

[Check out our editorial cartoons on President Obama.]

I feel the same way—I've gotten to the point where I tune out much of the political coverage because it makes my blood pressure so high. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. On that same homepage at NBC News, here are the headlines for today:

  1. Romney paid 14.1 percent effective tax rate in 2011
  2. Obama's battleground advantage grows
  3. Obama hits Romney on 47 percent: 'I don't see a lot of victims'
  4. Ryan gets boos at AARP conference
  5. Polls: Obama ahead in Colorado, Iowa and Wisconsin
  6. Obama swipes at Romney over '47 percent' comments

[Take the U.S. News Poll: Did Mitt Romney Release Enough of His Tax Returns?]

And yet we know that Romney also gave away $4 million last year to charity; that there are just as many polls showing Romney within the margin of error as show Obama ahead; and that Ryan was also applauded at the AARP conference—but there is no mention of those in the headlines. Apparently NBC feels we need to be reminded twice that Obama disagrees with Romney's '47 percent' comment.

Really? Only six in 10 have a problem with this?

Those headlines at NBC are the same type you see every day at Yahoo as well. It’s all anti Romney pro Obama - with $4 gas, no jobs, Middle East blowing up, etc. Amazing!

Ambassador killed on 9/11 anniversary and the “big story” that week? Romney three month old tape saying those on the government dole won’t for him. Shocker!

Little does the mainstream media know that their love affair for Obama will cost him the election if they keep it up. Americans aren’t going to let them decide who will be our next president!

In the grocery store checkout lines. I know far too many otherwise seemingly intelligent people who get their news from the headlines and front pages of supermarket tabloids. They trust and consume the food, so why not the "news" stories as well?

You won't be seeing that $ 4 gasoline soon, soon it will be $ 5 - $ 6 gasoline or higher.
Things are getting ready to really heat up in the middle east with Iran saying they can launch a pre-emtive strike against Israel if they see Israel getting ready to strike them.

I found your thread from 8 years ago by making lame stream media bias into a keyword, i.e. lamestreammediabias.

Not one mention of our dead ambassador on the Sunday shows I watched. These shows disgust me.

I read the tabs cover to cover when I’m on a supermarket line. Doesn’t mean I don’t read serious stuff too, lol!

I complained about obvious media bias to a liberal guy at work back in 2000. His response? “So what? If you guys were in charge, you would do the same thing.”

“IF” is the big word. The lefties were clever enough to take over journalism, national TV news, and schools. We realized it a bit late. I am surprised they let an occasional article like this to leak through. Why bother trying to look balanced occasionally?

That social media stuff is interesting.

And just as deadly as Social Justice. Seems most reporters took lessons from Baghdad Bob....tell a lie often enough and people will believe it....well today's reporter's parrot each other or have the same marching orders about protecting their Socialist/Marxist in the White House....at least the fraud is now recognized as a true Socialist with a Marxist upbringing.

I know, Yahoo is unabashedly campaigning for Zero. If you lived in a bubble and came out and read the headlines you’d think all is well with Obama and the world and Romney is the anti-Christ.

And Yahoo is by far the most viewed news site in the world. Staffed by kids brainwashed by leftist, secular, humanist journalism profs. These kids worst nightmare is to have to cover a Romney presidency.

Quite right. Remember that Zero was th ecool guy last time around and got all the young voters, and his campaign (especially his primary one) was supposed to have been won to a large part due to his use of social media.

Also, note the VCI; the voter confidence index. How can 0 with a VCI of -33 have such a large lead. Compare the other presidents up for reelection, and remember that Clinton was assisted by Perot.

Social Media - Voter Confidence Index - Poll results = does not compute.

PS: Obama’s VCI was -29 in August, not -33, but the questions remain the same.

They are the worst propaganda channel on the air. Oh wait, there’s Also ABC, NBC, CNN and the others.
Liar, liar pants on fire.

It’s one giant obama infomercial. The way the media pumps him up he should be ahead 15 points by now.

The mainstream media is evil and wicked to the core. They have totally failed in their purpose, and they don’t care because they feel that their important mission is to cover and support the Dems. The mainstream media has become a wing of the DNC election propaganda organ.
