MIAMI -- One year after the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that barred openly gay and lesbian service members from serving in the military, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said in an interview with WPTV NewsChannel 5 that the controversial policy should not be reinstated.
"Now that it's done, we should not reverse it," Ryan told WPTV NewsChannel 5 during a visit to Miami. "I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves."
Ryan was one of 160 Republicans and 15 Democrats in the House of Representatives to vote against the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" in 2010.
"I talked to a lot of good friends of mine who are combat leaders in the theater and they just didn't think the timing of this was right to do this when our troops were in the middle of harm's way in combat," Ryan said. "I think this issue is past us. It's done. And, I think we need to move on."
The comment came after progressive groups criticized Ryan, the candidate for vice president, for an appearance at the 2012 Values Voters Summit and accused him of being "out of step" with the views of young Americans.

I am amazed that these cowards pretend to represent us. Obama goes full gay marriage, and the GOP obliges by retreating as usual. All they do on social issues is try and fail to hold ground, never attack, never advance, never force the enemy to react. Wars, culture or otherwise are never won like that.
I suspect right now Ryan is throwing a nerf football against the wall over the bad call at the end of the Packers game.
because they never agreed with us on any of those issues, they just used those issues to get our votes, with no intention of ever actually doing anything to stop this kind of thing.
we are all being played for suckers.
and now we are stuck with this Romney putz who’s going to insure Obama gets re-elected.
Please go out and vote for the candidate who supports 3-parent families then.
OMG!! How DEMORALIZING can you get???
I can’t even quite get my head wrapped around this. If you have the power to try and change something that is wrong, and you don’t try, then I have to question if you ever thought it was wrong in the first place.
Going back to DADT is the WRONG direction? This ticket is driving me insane.
Romney’s lap dog has been muzzled and neutered.
So does that go for Obamacare as well? Lower taxes and less spending in Sodom and Gomorrah is not my idea of a conservative victory.
This truly sickens me...
Ryan was the reason I could vote for mittens...
End times for sure.
Its frustrating. R&R are good on economy, good on foreign affairs but the moral values crowd is told to go pound sand as always. Notice how not a single Democrat running for national or statewide office is actually pro returning to DADT (not that DADT was conservative to begin with).
Dunno what the problem is. Plenty of Freepers said principles don’t matter. So it’s OK. But if the Dems do it...well THEN it’s a problem.
THANKS FOR NOTHIN’ GUYS!
If I were him, my answer would be it’s up to the military commanders to decide what the policy should be to create the best military effectiveness and he will support their decision. I thought we had agreed that the military knew how to run itself better than civilians in Washington D.C. It’s a good political answer, because it punts the decision to the military. But I think it’s the right answer too. Conservative principles dictate that you let decisions be made at the local level or the people closest to knowing the ground truth of the situation.
Even if it’s true that the commanders told him they don’t want the policy reversed, he shouldn’t go all the way out on the limb to say “it’s done” for good. There hasn’t been enough time to evaluate how the change in policy has affected military readiness, for one thing.
It’s the MORAL issues that have gotten us to this point....Oh God help us.
Cr@p cr@p cr@p
Answer to your question - they don’t really see anything wrong with DADT repeal. They had to vote with GOP to cover their butts, but they are not about to expand an ounce of political capital to advance morality.
This is a culture war that is near to bullets and Ryan knows it. Lets get rid of Obama and we’ll fight the next battle. Ryan is a sharp cookie and a great VP pick. The homo issue is a distraction the Marxists would love to make us focus on. It’s one of thousands but the Marxists know how much media traction it would get and Ryan did not take their bait.
If Obama wins the election, we’ll all see a rollback on homosexual “rights” and feminism such as won’t be believed as his Islamism kicks in. Our whole way of life will become very different very soon.
Don't reverse course. Just keep moving
We are soooooo screwed.
Ryan is trying to throw the election.
Nobody but the queers want queers in the military.
check the polls on this issue and you’ll find a heck of a lot more people than only queers are for queers in the military
Ryan is correct . . . . . . . if we NEVER again want to have the best military on this planet.
IMO, the repeal of DADT will cause a ton of highly qualified, motivated and dedicated patriots to abandon our military. Anyone who has never served in the military has no idea how close the sleeping quarters are.
Exactly. You nailed it.
“Now that it’s done, we should not reverse it.”
He could also be talking about obamacare.
That makes it right then, ok, tyranny of the majority, it wins elections, part of the time, lol. I thought leaders lead, not stick their fingers up their own anus and enjoy the smell while taking advantage of the trappings of power.
Well, hell, then I’d rather see it reversed but I’d settle for at least enforcement of the current policy which says sexual preference is personal and private. It means no gay pride, no gay events, no special gay emphasis. Can we get someone to at least go that far?
I haven't served, but the repeal of DADT has already proven that homosexuals were serving in the military and were already in those sleeping quarters. I would expect there are still policies that would punish anyone for engaging or attempting to engage in lewd activity.
Sorry, Pandora’s jar has been opened. Any ceremony, etc... involving family support will prove the personnel and private sexual confusion/disorder is alive and open for all to see.
Just like Obamacare
“So does that go for Obamacare as well?”
That’s exactly what these party hyjackers are up to, Extortion-Care. RomneyHillaryRobertsBernackeites.
Plants, in the Post-Reagan hyjacked GOP Government Fascist Party.
“Replace” propaganda “it”. At the overt extortion of as many they can exploit. Front door phony no-collateral financial instrument and debt bailout.
The public with honest worked for assets, has had it with the facade.
DC and the Washingtonians are the problem and never will be the solution.
Just 2 factions fighting over who gets to control the cash extorted by the IRS from us suckers outside the Beltway.
Disappointing, but Obama has still gotta go....
WHAT? He’s supposed to be a believing CATHOLIC???
The GOP is making it DAMNED DIFFICULT to vote for R n R.
STEP IN WRONG DIRECTION? Yeah, if your destination is hell, then it is in the wrong direction.
So Ryan turns out to be a pandering coward after all.
Already sexual attacks on men by men have increased tremendously. Already homos are on the march, chaplains are silenced, it’s just the beginning; it will get much, much worse unless and until it goes back to “Ask, and if the answer is wrong, out the damn door!”
Homosexuals DO NOT BELONG IN THE MILITARY and there is so much evidence to prove this that only those pushing a depraved agenda ignore it.
America is dead and gone. The final nail in the coffin was the 2008 election of an African communist as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Hey, America had a great run... remember it fondly for what it was. Theres no point hanging onto the past. The upcoming election is meaningless.
The United States of America is now little more than a land mass populated by cretins, ingrates, and parasites who have absolutely no respect for the military and who vote for big government to confiscate money from their neighbors so that it may be redistributed to them in exchange for their votes. It is not an America worth defending anymore. That America no longer exists.
The parasites outnumber the hosts now, and theres no going back. America is dead.
The Democrats have won.
Nothing lasts forever (shrug) and theres no point crying or whining about it. My recommendation to every decent human left out there is to throw some cold water in your face and proceed to Plan B. Figure out how to grab every government dime you possibly can before the parasites who comprise the Democrat party base gobble it all up. Look for angles. Look for refuge. Hide what you have. Get under the radar and game the system. Every man for himself.
Good luck, everybody.
Especially since the very influential Ralph Reed was on TV tonight announcing the start of a program for a get-out-the-vote crusade beamed to the Evangelical Right.
Talk about the Evangelicals being blind-sided by Ryan on the same day.
Of course this is anecdotal and the press does not mention these inefficient problems so all is well in same sex disorder land. Whatever, better to pretend no one knows and keep a lid on the perversion but I guess we are just too enlightened by our own good. Same goes for females with long tours on ships and subs, they won't get pregnant, no way, impossible, lol.
Like in the favorite: “mis-spoke”
Jumping the shark x 2.
Ah gee, thanks a lot for that. Had no clue that Ryan was a fag lover.
How about an “everyone shut the hell up about your sexual escapades or you’re discharged” policy?
Shouldn’t be discussing that stuff at work anyway.
And this thinking and logic is why repub’s haven’t reversed Roe for 40 years.
“Paul Ryan says reversal of DADT repeal is step in wrong direction “
Triple Negative. Animal Farm ... here we come.
Yes, I’m on your side. But this language is a reflection of the collective hypnosis, sucks that this is part of the conversation. Sucks for Paul that he has to talk this way.
