All good.
Pat nails it.
Pat makes some serious sense in light of events in the last 23 years.
Is that actually true?
As I recall the story, the Nazis got roughly 33% of the Reichstag, then Paul Hindenberg appointed Hitler Chancellor, then they completed their takeover of the government through trickery and thuggery.
I wonder if we are becoming such men.
Clintons come tom mind?
Clintons come to mind?
Now that you mention it...
at least the christians in the real crusades ACTUALLY FOUGHT TO WIN....instead of this namby-pamby half-assed war effort with retrated ROE’s that handcuff our fighters....
every since we kowtowed to the US in Korea, it has been one waste of time after another...
‘DRESDEN’ THOSE PRICKS and you will notice a difference...
I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. Spread some pain to ALL of them (including the “civilians” that dance in the streets when we’re attacked) and it’ll be a whole different ballgame. Our enemies make no effort to be kinder and softer. We’re idiots.
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
Isolationism is a losing strategy too.
The German government of the time was a parliamentary system, and the Nazis had just won the largest single block of votes. They also had allied with some other groups in the Reichstag to have gotten an effective majority coalition - the Reichstag Fire was the deciding factor that brought in support from other groups, and Hindenburg was left with little choice.
I would imagine the Nazis were pretty heavy in the trickery, thuggery and false promises mode when assembling their coalition. Certainly none of their political 'partners' mattered much once the Nazis were firmly in the driver's seat.
A good beginning might be a FR thread from the Year 2004 and the links provided therein.
Because our schools have not taught the ideas of liberty versus competing ideas of tyranny, understood at America's founding, but censored from the nation's textbooks for decades now, we are adrift and in danger of losing the battle of ideas.
America's Founders understood the competing visions and what John Quincy Adams identified as the various "laws of nations" and how the Declaration of Independence's philosophy and the American Constitution fitted into such a world.
A reading of his complete "Jubilee" Address, delivered in 1839 by invitation of the New York Historical Society, would be a beginning, as well as his writings referred to in the thread cited above. Both are linked in that thread.
How about speak softly, carry a big stick and a de facto quarantine around supremacist Islam? We don't need their stinkin' oil. We'd be energy rich if we could stifle the econazis. That should be easy with our economy on the ropes, and the EPA doing everything to thwart it.
Thanks.
That was generally my recollection of the story.
Not so, Pat -- liberals' was the rude awakening. For Obama, it was the flowering of his life's purpose and the fulfilment of his father's sordid, evil dream.
For us conservatives, it's been a sad denouement and one "we told you so" moment after another.
That was Mohammed all over. Beat them, follow them home, beat their ass bigtime in their own front yard, kill all the men, and build a victory rabat (monument/USO center/mosque) in the middle of their biggest town. Oh, excuse me -- I meant, "Islamic Cultural and Community Center/World Trade Center".
