Akin told a crowd of supporters, ” In August I was given a trust , a trust to replace a senator that had not represented Missouri or our best interests.” He added, ” I have one purpose going into November and that’s replacing Claire McCaskill.”

As the deadline to withdraw from the November general election ballot passed, Missouri’s Republican party issued a statement saying it will support Akin along with all the other Republican nominees on the ballot.

I don't recall that the RNC funds conservatives. I do recall that they have slammed and cut off funds to conservatives.

You should have thought through all of this before you dumped conservatives for your party.

“What if Akin wins?”

I don’t see that happening. But if he does, that’s fine.

Akin is toejam. He’s an assclown. I feel the same way about many of his supporters.

But he’s OUR toejam and he’s OUR assclown.

And the GOP-E has zero hold over him.

Nope, he's not the RNC's assclown or toejam. They (you) made a big deal about it.

Isn’t it ironic that several of your debate partners are all in for Romney no matter what he says or does because the result is ‘unthinkable’ etc, but somehow they just can’t seem to apply that...logic...to this race?

And people honestly wonder why the GOP and it’s followers are so hosed.

Let’s have some sense of perspective here: Akin said a dumb thing- he learned a lesson and apologized. Obama, OTOH, skipped security briefings and now an ambassador and other Americans are dead- Obama has never apologized, and he continues to change his excuses every week.

Which is worse?...

Norm, I've been dealing with it for years.

Every single election.

I just don't budge. Even a little bit. To reach across, or around or to compromise, or to go along to get along.

I'm that fly in their oinkment.

I believed him when he said it weeks ago. He is an honest, honorable person.

But Johnny! You HAVE to give 100,000 to fund half the problems we face! Don’t you see? YOU are the [roblem! A pol that has a 90%+ lifetime conservative rating is the problem because he said a bad thing!

Far better to let the Dem win and let them keep the senate than have someone like THAT in office. Besides, you puritans just need to adopt situational ethics. That way you can say you are still conservative with a straight face and no regrets.

Shame on you ;)

If Akin wins, I for one will be happy for him and be celebrating. And his supporters will be able to share in that victory. The victory will be Akin’s. He will own that victory.

If he loses, however. Akin and his supporters that advised him to stay in the race will own that defeat. They will try to blame others but in the end a real conservative accepts responsibility in their own losses. If Akin loses, he will own that defeat. And if we are one seat shy from a Senate majority Akin and those same supporters will also own that defeat

I am hoping he wins. We should all be hoping for that. As a Senator I would support every part of his agenda. By the way, he did very well in the debate!

The GOP and their funding games are FAR from blameless. They own a piece of that rock. In fact, they own at least half.

Alright, did this guy seriously also denounce his statement, that a woman’s body prevents pregnancy in cases of rape?

Of course he did, a day after he made the verbal gaffe.

HUCKABEE: " First of all Congressman Akin, thank you for joining me, because I know its a very difficult day for you, but you're getting hammered out there and I wanted to give you an opportunity to explain what did you mean by the comment you made yesterday?"

AKIN: "Well, Mike, I really appreciate your program and everything you stand for, and I really appreciate your giving me a chance to try to make this thing right because I've really made a couple of serious mistakes here that were just wrong, and I need to apologize for those. First I'd like to say that I've always been committed to pro-life and it was because I didn't want to harm the most vulnerable. But likewise I care deeply, you know, for the victims of people who've been raped, and they're equally vulnerable, and a rape is equally tragic. And I made that statement in error. Let me be clear - rape is never legitimate. It's an evil act, that's committed by violent predators. I used the wrong words in the wrong way. What I said was ill conceived and it was wrong. And for that I apologize. I'm a dad of two daughters. I want tough justice for sexual predators. I've always had a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. And I've even known some women who have been raped, I know that it is a terrible, terrible thing and those consequences extend many many years later. I also know that people do become pregnant from rape, i didn't mean to imply that that wasn't the case it does happen. And it's also terrible, particularly the most terrible of all. And I really just want to apologize to those that I've heard because as I've said I've spoken in error. I wanted to get that straight right off the bat.

"I'm not a quitter. My belief is we're going to move this thing forward," U.S. Senate candidate and current Congressman Todd Akin (R-Missouri) said about his rape comments. "To quote my friend John Paul Jones, I’ve not yet begun to fight."

"I really just want to apologize to those that I've hurt, because I've spoken in error,” Akin said.

Akin also tried to qualify and explain the use of "legitimate" with rape. "I was talking about forcible rape, and it was absolutely the wrong word," Akin said

What is wrong with that. He has six children. Three of his sons went to the Naval Academy and all three served in the Marines. One saw combat in Fallujah. I guess that is “pathetic” as well.

The GOP and their funding games are FAR from blameless.

That's why I never give to the GOP. I give directly to the candidates.

And I’m sure Akin (especially with his “party boss” statements) has known long ago never to depend on GOP money and rightfully so.

I never give to the GOP. Let that be a lesson. Give to the candidate not the party.

That’s lesson #1 which should have bee learned long ago

Yep. I'm just that bastard.

I keep claiming that killing unborn children is wrong, banning guns is wrong, supporting socialized medicine is wrong, and that government should be smaller.

I suppose I should turn myself in at the nearest re-education camp. So I can become a good Republican, and lose my conservative values.

They still ain't getting any money from me. ;)

Totally agree. The GOP has done nothing but make excuses and put Bohner types into power. That resulted in the mess that is our side of the fence today.

Funding our own demise is never a good idea.

John Boehner is the best example you could have given. He needs to go.

Off topic but the fact that he has been silent since the attacks in Libya prove how wrong he is for the job. I see the argument of ‘don’t interrupt a man when he’s hanging himself, but dammit, he SHOULD be standing for Americans/Free speech as Obama goes full Muslim.

But no,

Silence.

A deafening silence.

But the man was relatively silent when we were carpet bombing Libya months ago in what was supposed to be an enforcement of a no fly zone.

"repeal John Boehner as Speaker" should be a required promise for any conservative running for Congress. That alone should boost them atleast 5% points.
