Paul Ryan stood by helplessly, and in apparent pain, as Mitt Romney strayed from campaign talking points on President Obama's tax record during a joint "reset" rally today in Ohio.
In the midst of remarks ridiculing the president's handling of the economy, Romney said: "I admit this, he has one thing he did not do in his first four years - he's said he's going to do in the next four years, which is to raise taxes."
During the primaries, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul offered a very different view of the presidents record, when she told the L.A. Times: "President Obama has raised taxes 19 times."

I did not like Newt personally, but I believe he was the only one who was smart enough and knew enough about the inner workings to get the job done.
When we get Romney we still don’t have much ,but hopefully we can get rid of Harry Reid at the same time. We have to hope that the suckbutts in the RINO party don’t put McConnell in as Senate leader, if they do we are probablt as well of now as then.
How lovely for you.
I’m for going back to the “smoke filled room” where old timers who actually know something picked the candidates. Maybe we would get another Eisenhower.
We have an entire press establishment that peppers Romney over and over again. They’re fresh while he’s moving like a marathoner. The goal is to catch him in a gaffe and get conservatives to grumble, say dumb things, and stay home.
Take a look at Romney here: http://www.americanthinker.com/video/2012/09/romney_spot-on_in_cnn_hostile_interview.html
He’s much, much better than Obama as a candidate, on the positions and as a man. Sorry, you lose, but only if you keep playing that same silly game.
Step one in getting our nation and Constitution back is defeating Obama. Do you know what step two is?
Good then you have no need to criticize the only alternative to Obama and thereby affect the voting in any swing state. Your silence both at the ballot and in public is appreciated.
You get to sit back and watch us defeat Obama, then please jump in and help us make and keep Congress as a conservative majority body for generations. That's the ticket!
Carter injured us such that we still deal with the fallout today. Obama is Carter cubed. It will be a lot worse than you can imagine.
Lemme guess, you probably champion the 1st Amendment rights of that fellow who made the video that the Muslims are so upset with, but my honest opinion conflicts with your short term election goals (even if it is true which is irrelevent to you) so you tell tell me to shut up. Dream on.
Your hero Romney knows he is losing, that why he is resorting to this:
You want him to win? Then tell him to STOP saying stupid stuff on camera. Lying and claiming black is white wont win it for him. It didnt work in 2008 with McCain and it wont work now.
My satellite is down due to weather. So this is on my cellphone. America will not fall to some penny ante politician.
good luck with that...vote for RR if it sooths your heart, but please stop pretending that we have a choice in this [or the past several] potus race...
romneys own record is his own problem, telling us to sit down and shut up, because you deem yourself to be the grown up, really is hilarious...
oh, and the 'feet to the fire' with a tea party CONgress looks increasingly like whistling past the graveyard, being as though since 2010 fedzilla hasnt done squat to shrink, and these tools have consistently voted the go-along-get-along route...
truth hurts, deal with it...
Here is a something that wont be warmly accepted by many here right now, and Rush wont tell you this. It is obviously depressing.
Boehner and McConnell will not be replaced by fresher blood unless the Republicans suffer a major defeat. You can elect all the so called Tea party conservatives you want but as long as they have the wrong leadership in charge they will call the shots, and as we seen each short term rebellion that eventually gets squashed (The Budget control act vote surrender to Obama) fractures the party and just helps Dems anyway.
Boehner and McConnnell and Romney in charge of DC is in itself not a pretty thought and would not last long.
No, my comment was simply bait. You can answer over and over and over and over again, ad nauseum, but you’re still wrong.
Your behavior and commentary simply support an Obama reelection. That’s the bottom line.
If you don’t think Romney’s an improvement over Obama you lack a firm grasp on reality.
Good I'm glad you came round, finally. Romney won't hurt a thing.
Add in a conservative Congress and we can begin making progress. Of course, real solutions won't come out of the government, but from individuals like us. That said, let's get them out of our way.
When do the obamacare taxes go into effect? Because Obama kept the Bush tax cuts and lowered the payroll tax. So unless I missed something nothing has been raised yet.
America will not fall to some penny ante politician. True. The major argument I’m seeing is that Barack Obama will cause the end of America in the next 4 years.
I agree with you that Romney will not cause America to cease to exist. However, I don’t hear anyone arguing that. I do hear many say that Romney could well set back the conservative movement in the republican party for decades, if not bring about the end of conservatism within the Republican party.
.
NO, The bottom line is that one person has millions of times more effect on this race than any single anonymous poster, that that is your loser candidate. You want him to win? Then tell him to stop feeding the Dems ammunition against him and EVERY Republican running for national election (congress.)
The problem with depending on (RNC) BS to achieve goals that never end is you end up believing your own BS, “Don't get high on your own supply”
The only people who will set back the conservative movement in the GOP are conservatives. Your argument is utter nonsense.
This election year we’ll see Congress move our way. If Akin wins it will signal a sea change in how politics is done in America. People are talking about the Constitution again. I just sat down with a liberal lawyer who spoke to me about the importance of the law and how judges shouldn’t “write” it. That’s a job for the legislature.
We’re winning. Let’s keep winning. Turning the country back over to Obama for a second, no holds barred term is moving in harms way.
Romney hasn’t even been elected and we are already interpreting “what he meant to say”. I am sickened to think this non-starter is our nominee. Way to go conservative -America.
Even if Obama wins, I am sure that state positions as well as the next mid-term election will continue to have heavily conservative results. If Obama wins, it will be by driving up turnout among the dumbest voters, ones who can’t hold down a job and who live on Obama Bucks, ones who are 100% politically ignorant and will never turn up for any election that Obama isn’t running in.
As I recall, you are one who argues that Obama’s 2nd term will end freedom in America. That is an argument that I reject. Not with more than one gun per household, and not with 236 years of freedom behind us as a way of life, and not with our military comprised of soldiers reared in those freedom households spread broadly around America from middle class homes.
It won’t happen. Your argument doesn’t pass the common sense test.
Romney on the other hand is a liberal in conservative clothing. Is anyone going to deny that in light of his record? Is anyone going to say that free republic has been wrong about Romney all along, that he’s a true blue committed conservative now and during his entire tenure as a republican? Not unless they’re into denying reality, they’re not.
So, that means that the republican party that foisted Romney on us, and still seeks to injure Akin, and despises social conservatives particularly will have ascendancy in the party for a long time to come.
I suppose you believe they will not attempt to change the brand, that they won’t promote candidates in their own likeness, and that they won’t appoint justices from the liberal wing of the republican movement.
Dream on.
