Fox News poll: Most voters want change, even as Obama holds edge (O 48 R 43 D+4)

The latest Fox News poll finds the race for the White House holds steady, with 48 percent of likely voters backing the Obama-Biden ticket and 43 percent backing the Romney-Ryan ticket, if the election were held today. That’s unchanged from two weeks ago, after the Democratic convention.

Romney was preferred by one percentage point (45-44 percent) before the two conventions (August 19-21).

The president’s advantage is within the poll’s margin of sampling error.[SNIP]

In addition, even as Obama’s post-convention bounce holds, about a quarter of voters (24 percent) want the country to “mostly stay on the course it’s on,” while 73 percent say “many policies need to change.” Almost all Republicans (95 percent) and most independents (77 percent) think policies need to change, as do just over half of Democrats (51 percent).

No, thanks. I don’t gamble (nor drink, smoke, take drugs, stay out late or chase skirts) as a matter of Christian principle. You?

I’m a beer guy when the times allow. Most times I am deep in the heart of some corporation making sure back-up power can handle a power outage for x amount of time. I routinely have my hand wrapped around a 3phase 65a bus just looking for trouble. You?

So, again, I'm not here to complain.

I'm just to sneer at your sorry asses and to pray that, when this is all over, posterity will forget that you were ever my countrymen.

Wow--big words from a small intellect.

You are already on record on this thread as hoping that Romney loses and Obama wins.

By saying that, you have proved that you are not my countryman. Get lost. You are stinking up the place.

“In October of 2010, Obama was (supposedly) polling at 54%. two weeks later, Dems lost in the biggest landslide in history. Enough said.”

Check again. In Oct 2010 all the polls had Republicans up 5 to 10 points and many of them had the Republican congress up by double digits. In fact, if you look at the history of the 2010 election polls, pollsters had Republicans winning the house as early as Dec 2009. It was an off year election so the presidential approval numbers were irrelevant.

My point is that I’m getting tired of the head in the sand attitudes and hope that these crappy numbers for Romney get people MOTIVATED, not in denial.

We are looking at serious foreign policy issues, an economy in the tank and a supreme court that could very well be reshaped in the next 4 years. We don’t have the luxury of living in la-la land. We need to look at these numbers for what they are and use them to get people into action!

Volunteer to make calls, canvas neighborhoods, volunteer to distribute signs, talk to family, friends, neighbors and for the love of God if you live in a swing state, do all of the above EVERY free moment you have!

The poll says 73% want change, but Obama is ahead?

This poll refutes itself.

Not necessarily. The numbers seem to be off, but not enough to invalidate that particular trend imho.

What we seem to be seeing here is that while voters want change, they aren't necessarily sold on either the change Romney is proposing ... or Romney as the agent of change.

This is an identical situation to 1980 where it took the debate for Reagan to sell himself to Carter as an acceptable alternative. Romney's no Reagan, of course, but the situation today is also magnitudes worse than it was in 1980. Support for Obama looks, from this poll and others, to be pretty soft starting at 42-43%. The support that's pushing him out to near/at/above 50% is extremely soft. Romney, otoh, has good trending with both independents and enthusiasm.

Conclusionw to draw here are that the election is anything but decided, we have a heck of a long way to go to early November, and that the debates, economic numbers (3 or 4 days until the September jobs numbers come out, and the abysmal August numbers are revised) and ground-game will really, seriously, matter.

You, who would let Communism take over America for seventy years or more, "Absolutely. Without hesitation," to quote you, DARES to sneer at ANYTHING but the mirror??!?

You stealth-communist piece of feces, YOU are not my countryman. You are communism enabling vermin, and a sworn enemy.

Go thee hence to Democrat Underground, where you can continue to plot a communist overthrow.

It’s funny how that all works. By every objective metric, Obama is not doing a good job. When asked is he doing a good job on individual issues like the economy and foreign policy, a significant majority think he’s not. When asked if it’s time for a change, people overwhelming state “yes”.. but for some inexplicable reason, he’s leading in the generic presidential poll.
This is why I don’t trust the general presidential polls and why the campaigns are doing what they’re doing.

As Joseph de Maistre put it: "Every country has the government it deserves."

If Obama gets re-elected, which seems likely at this point, it's because the American people want and deserve four more years of Obama.

To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, the Founders bequeathed to us a republic "if we could keep it."

A generation in the wilderness is probably what we'll need to rediscover our American ideals.

And that's just peachy with me.

As to your childish name-calling, I won't stoop to your low level by responding.

Riiight. Because that worked out so well for Russia. When a country descends into communism, experience shows that the best they can hope for is, if even this lucky, socialism.

And that's just peachy with me.

Precisely. That is why I correctly identify you -- if not an actual communist -- certainly a communist enabler.

I, on the other hand, will fight communism at every turn. Communism kills millions. You go right ahead and sit on your sofa and cheer on the collapse. That makes you an enabler.

As to your childish name-calling, I won't stoop to your low level by responding.

It's not 'name calling' to identify, accurately, someone's proclivities.
