ORLANDO — While gun rights advocates from all over the map, including the Pacific Northwest, are gathering here for the kick-off of the 27th annual Gun Rights Policy, back home in Washington one can sense there is a “gun” battle of sorts heating up anew, over the elimination of a wolf pack in northern Stevens County.
Wolf predation isn’t on the agenda down here in Disneyworld country, but it’s a safe gamble Evergreen State big game hunters and ranchers are waiting for political and legal fireworks to ignite because of the Wedge Pack eradication this week. Marksman have killed the Alpha male and several other wolves over the past few days, because they had become cattle killers.
Ranchers don't like wolves because of this kind of predation, and hunters are concerned that wolves will have a significant impact on elk and deer herds here.
A battle of words has erupted on the Department of Fish & Wildlife’s Facebook page, with some rather colorful remarks from wolf advocates. One, aimed at veteran hunting guide Dale Denney — proprietor of the Hunting-Washington forum where discussions on the wolf situation are found here, here and here — simply hopes that he and his followers “rot in hell.”

Down here in Orlando, there are no wolves, but one might anticipate a certain bit of vitriol as the conference cranks up. Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, takes it in stride. It goes with the territory, no matter where the “territory” might be. Last year it was Chicago and the year before that, San Francisco.

And naturally, the closest she ever got to a 'wolf' was when she was a kid and they had a dog 'Spot', a St Bernard-Black Lab Mix (BIG HUGE friendly old dog Spot was). And the closest she ever got to the 'wilderness' was when she went to a Forest Preserve for a picnic -- or lived in Chicago and rode a bus (lol).
So when she posts her 'Save The Wolves' nonsense on Facebook I just block that message so I don't go off on her. (she's young, 30 something, and 'touchy-feely')
I have mixed feelings on this sort of thing, but my feeling is that it is a matter of over doing one thing in order to protect your self from some one over doing something else.
I live in cattle country and in fact on a ranch but i hear nothing about the wolves needing extinguished, but i am sure if they started taking their toll on the cattle herds it would be talked about every day.
I am not familiar with the situation in Washington but i do know that a tree huger would make me want to chop down the tree and i imagine it would be the same with the wolves.
The battle with the tree hugers had nothing to do with trees and it is doubtful to me if the wolf hugers has anything to do with the wolves.
We are fighting for our lives, our fight is with those people who want to dehumanize us and control us like we were cattle owned by them.

It is amazing to me how people who claim to speak for nature, wilderness, wildlife, and “Mother Earth” are terrified to leave the concrete jungle city limits.
The think they know so much about what they have hardly experienced, much less lived in.
I’m surprised that the wolf huggers don’t look at the devestation the wolves to to the elk, deer and cattle herds, in particular the young calves. I am told one wolf will eat one deer every 17 days. Multiply that by the number of wolves in a pack and you will quickly see that killing these young animals is a crule way for them to die. Why are the “huggers” not crying “foul” about that?
I live right next to a wildlife refuge where wolves have been introduced. I see them frequently and can tell you, there are a lot of them. Our deer herd (central Wissoncin) has been reduced significantly due to wolves (coyotes too).
The deer population, where wolves have been introduced, has been reduced to 1.2 deer per square mile. Moving out 10 miles in any direction, the deer population is approx. 4.2 deer pers quare mile, Moving further out another 10 miles, the deer population jumps to 10+ deer per square mile. Not certain of the EXACT number but the figures where provided by the Wis DNR themselves, NOT THE US FISH AND WILDLIFE people. The landscape has not changed to warrant the lower numbers due to tree harvest, etc. Now you tell me if the wolf introduction has had an impact on our deer herds.
The wolf hunting season is ON, legally or otherwise.
The reintroduction of wolves was another tactic used by the liberals to control guns. How many liberals have you seen leave their urban settings to come and commune with the wolves? Wolves were reintroduced to reduce the deer, elk and moose populations to such a low level that hunting would be stopped. If there’s no hunting, what do you need those rifles for? Democrats have no problem with guns as long as they get to decide who the guns are pointed at.
Turnabout is fair play. Bring a wolf-killed deer carcass to the tree hugger meeting and throw it on the head table and watch them scream.
