Should There be an Empty Chair Interview of President Obama?

Today, on Fox News Sunday, a contentious interview by Chris Wallace of Paul Ryan was televised.

Just witnessed Chris Wallace giving Paul Ryan a contentious interview. Wallace would not let Paul Ryan answer a question without interrupting him in mid sentence. I do not think the tone of the interview was at all fair, unless he would interview Joe Biden in the same manner.

He evened asked Ryan if he thought the media was biased (with a straight face), and when Ryan answered yes, said solemnly, "why do you think that"?

In fairness Wallace mentioned that it has been more than 4 years since Obama or Biden had been interviewed on Fox News Sunday. They have been repeatedly invited, but have declined. Then (I believe) he extended an open invitation to President Obama to appear on Fox News Sunday next week, so that he could ask him the same tough questions.

My question is this: if President Obama declines an interview, shouldn't Chris Wallace interview an empty chair, and ask the empty chair the same tough questions, just to be fair?

After all, Fox News is advertised as being "Fair and Balanced"? There is still plenty of time for President Obama to present himself to the unbiased media, or time for the public to find out if he is hiding out in the White House compound.

It would be pretty funny, but probably too blatant.

I admit that I probably over the line on this, but the real story of the 2012 election is the Media, who have, according to Pat Cadell, become the enemy of the people.

I cannot believe the majority of Americans can be so stupid as to re-elect President Obama. It will be our run, and is only made possible by the uncritical Mainstream Media.

I agree, sorry I posted this. Too blatant, racist etc. I am totally frustrated by what I see. How can a country be free and make good decisions if they are propagandized? Is there anything we can do? Just tell me to chill; I'll do it.

Softball questions for the country's manglers, the Obama administration, and probing, condescending disrespect for the grownups, who are our only chance of pulling out of this decline.

Chris Wallace should talk to Mona Charen. She was on "Fox and Friends" two or three days ago and was on fire about examples of media bias (pro-Obama and anti-Romney).

I caught part of an interview on C-SPAN with Richard Miniter, whose book about Obama failing to approve taking out Osama bin Laden at least three times (because of Valerie Jarrett's advice) has gotten little attention in the media. Contrast it with the lavish attention paid to Richard Clarke's book because it could be used to attack George W. Bush over 9/11.

Miniter talked about how the intelligence people were aghast at how Obama went on TV hours after the raid that killed Osama to announce the death of Osama. He should have kept quiet until the analysts had time to go through the documents captured, identify and kill the people in his network, and destroy Al Qaeda. But Obama was too eager to get the immediate political payoff of being able to say he killed Osama.

The more you know about Obama, the worse he turns out to be.

It wouldn’t matter if there is or if there isn’t because no one would cover it.

They would just make up some crap like oh Romney forgot to put his pants on, then cut to some naked guy who isn’t Romney, and say look see, and then run with that for the next two months...

I’m just kidding, but not really.

I can’t think of any way for Romney or Ryan to combat what is occurring.

Well I can think of one way, but I can’t actually mention what it is.

I don't know if I'd call it a contentious interview. To me, he was asking him “tough” questions. That should be expected of the media. Ryan responded well.

At the end of the show, Wallace showed how many days it had been (1200+) since Obama and Uncle Joe appeard on Fox News Sunday - avoiding (hopefully) “tough” questions from Wallace (or any others).

You saw it, too? It was obviously a very contentious interview where every sentance Paul Ryan spoke was challenged with mock disbelief. It was like he was saying between the lines "are you so stupid to really believe what you just said"? And then he has the gaul to say, "why do you (fool) say you think the media is biased"?

Incredible image of the pot calling the kettle black.

Yes, I saw it. Wallace was frankly, just plain rude. I don’t mind the tough questions, but he was so sarcastic and condscending. Ryan responded well and with grace though.

The reason I am calling it contentious, is that I have never seen President Obama interviewed in this manner, except for a few minutes on what he initially thought would be a friendly Univision interview.

Why can't the Obama administration receive equal treatment?

Yep—nothin’ like giving this oh, so coll prez a heads up for the tough questions so his researchers can tell him exactly what to say after having weeks for polling of what voters would like him to say. No media bias here, mike.

I didn't see the interview. Chris Wallace is usually better than most. The questions quoted above seem appropriate to me. He asked if he believed something and then asked him why he believed it. Not sure what's wrong with that

Seeing it in print, and seeing it on the screen are not the same. You had to see the condescending, rude and arrogant manner in which Chris Wallace intervied Paul Ryan. He was constantly interrupting, and almost blatant inviting a flippant response. Of course, Ryan responded with grace and tact. Had he not done so, it would have been the big news story.

Once again, Wallace being so rude and interrupting put Ryan on the defensive the entire interview. I just have never seen Obama interviewed in this manner, except for the Univision interview, and the time the journalist yelled questions at him. To be fair, shouldn't both be interview in the same manner? Do you think the media is biased? Why do you say that?

Wisconsin ping: Wallace waylays Ryan on Fox News Sunday

My 2 cents — Wallace was rude. He kept claiming that there had been no specifics from Romney and Ryan about their tax plan and then wouldn’t let Ryan answer — although Ryan handled himself well.

When is one of these talking heads going to point out that there have been no specifics from Obama/Biden, and what we have seen so far just isn’t working?

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
