GOP’s October surprise? - Source reveals "Jimmy Carter Strategy"
Salon.com ^ | OCT 1, 2012 | CRAIG UNGER

According to a highly reliable source, as Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama prepare for the first presidential debate Wednesday night, top Republican operatives are primed to unleash a new two-pronged offensive that will attack Obama as weak on national security, and will be based, in part, on new intelligence information regarding the attacks in Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens on Sept. 11.

The source, who has firsthand knowledge of private, high-level conversations in the Romney camp that took place in Washington, D.C., last week, said that at various times the GOP strategists referred to their new operation as the Jimmy Carter Strategy or the October Surprise.

In going door-to-door, most Republicans and almost all Dems and Indies have zero support for a neo-Con approach. Incrasingly we are moving toward a soft Ron Paul position on foreign entanglements.

I have no dog in this. I have no position on foreign policy other than immigration to the extent it is foreign policy. I’m commenting on campaign strategy.

Mitt needs to prove he is a turn-around artist with a turn-around of his campaign.

I would prefer their October surprise to have them somehow lift the video that the LA Times has which show obama hanging out with Hamas. That should make the election a slamdunk.

Wrongo!. All the Hamas has to say is we will give you free telephones and all of a sudden Zero is a bigger hero. We are in an absolute freefall because nobody wants to work for anything.

I have said many times that once enough people are on the dole it’s over for the Republicans.

My wife's favorite comment on this is the following story:

Two kids are running for the class president in the sixth grade. One promises to clean up the halls and make sure the lockers are secure. The other one promises everybody ice cream. When asked where it is coming from and how will it be paid for, that student says I don't know. I am just promising it. Guess which one won with 100% of the vote. The halls are still dirty and things are getting swiped from the lockers. But the class is lined up waiting for the free ice cream (which is not coming).

I sure hope you’re right. But will what rightfully should be damaging actually cause damage? A month ago very few had ever heard of Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Cool. Just go ahead and keep out of the way of the reformers within the party. We’re on the verge of electing Ted Cruz down here and it hasn’t been easy but we got it done. Of course from the look of your post working to elect true conservatives like Cruz, Rand Paul, Jim Demint is too much work. It’s much easier to sit on your ass and complain.

~Cheers

It's all about timing my friend,, time it for best effect and so they won't be able to recover from it before the election.

WTF? What has 0bama done? MORE DAMAGE, that’s what he’s done. This notion that Romney has to do ‘more’ is perpetrated by the media to enhance their false narrative that this race is over. I’m sick of this sh!t. If America wants to prove they are SHEEP and easily led to slaughter, let them. I pray to God everyday that Americans come to their senses and evicts the traitor in the White House. They may already have. The news media would never tell us, would they.. Jimmy Carter was going to kick Reagan’s butt they told us. The media is never held to account for their deceptive campaigns.

They are just publishing this in an effort to get ahead of GOP attacks over Libya.

You're right. This is garbage.

It's Salon, for God's sake ... a little Obama-worshipping pantywaist named Craig Unger ... claiming to quote "high-level Republicans." But Unger's anonymous "source" won't name names!

Puh-leeze, this is an obvious effort to pre-neutralize Romney if he dares to attack the Obama foreign policy debacle in Libya the entire world.

They should swiftboat him by highlighting his longtime sympathy and apologetic stance toward the Muslim world. It's the same old Jimmy Carter naivete about the Soviets and Iran.

Exactly. Even the libs at the State Dept. don’t want their own murdered because of incompetence at the WH. Likewise, the DOD. Both bureaucracies will leak to protect their own people.

Pat Caddell on Campaign Insiders said Romney should say in the debate how Obama went fundraising in Vegas the day after the attacks. What happens in Benghazi doesn’t stay in Benghazi...

Mitt needs to say in the debate, “Vote for me if you want turnaround artist. Vote for Obama if you want a bull$#!t artist.” I can dream...

That story might get some traction, many of those voting might understand something as simply put as that.

That could work if only the people inclined to vote for Obama gave a damn about it.
