Romney Losing Donors to GOP House, Senate Candidates
Foxnews ^

Posted on 10/01/2012 7:40:42 PM PDT by chessplayer

The Romney campaign is experiencing what some officials believe could be the beginning of a mass exodus of big money donors diverting their cash away from the Republican presidential hopeful and toward Republican candidates for the House and Senate races more likely to win in November, the FOX Business Network has learned.

The trend isn’t at the acute stage, at least not yet, said one person with direct knowledge of the matter. This person, a major player in Romney’s New York fundraising circles, confirmed to FOX Business that a few New York donors have backed away from financial commitments to the Romney campaign and instead said they will spend their money to help the Republicans hold on to the House of Representatives, and pick up seats in the Senate.

But another person with direct knowledge of the matter says the trend, though nascent, is more geographically broad based, and reflects an increasing degree of anxiety both with what they believe is the tentative nature of the Romney campaign, and recent poll numbers that show President Obama with a lead, particularly in key battleground states, that some Republican contributors are starting to believe is insurmountable.

Since he was unleashed from Massachusetts, where he was in the same position as Scott Brown is currently, surrounded by the enemy, he can now act the way he, I believe, truly is, a conservative at heart.

You are denying everything that we know about the man's life, and he never had to run in Massachusetts in the first place, he chose them because they are closer to his politics, he turned down the chance to run for Governor of Utah (notice that Mitt moved out of Massachusetts after his term).

Romney became pro-abortion in 1963 when he was a GOP intern, the year before he and his father walked off the convention floor to protest against the nomination of Goldwater, and conservatism. Romney avoided military service and was against the war, his father ran as the liberal anti-war presidential candidate, his mother ran for Senate in 1970 as pro-abortion.

Romney left the GOP in 1979 because of Ronald Reagan, and then was against Reagan during the 1980s, and then after Reagan, Romney started supporting democrats and did democrat fundraising, and even voted democrat.

Mitt did not rejoin the GOP until October of 1993, and he was famously lefty, and doing fundraising for Planned Parenthood, and was to the left of Ted Kennedy on promoting homosexuality in the military and the boy scouts.

Romney was against a conservative Senate, against the Contract with America, and considered William Weld as his mentor and closest to him in politics.

Look at post 121 for just a hint of the most baggage laden candidate of the primary, the failed Governor driven from office with 34% approval, who has won a single election in his 20 years of running (that with less than 50%).

Romney has only baggage, with no conservative anything in his past.

It looks like the donors are playing defense.

There was a poll in Wisconsin that had Baldwin up 10 points, and Obama up by the same. They even had Reid Ribble and Sean Duffy losing, and the Dems picking up the State Assembly and some State Senate seats.

I hope to God that Romney has learned from his mistakes in Massachusetts. And I hope he has the sense to fight tooth and nail against the lies and deceit of the Left and their lapdogs, the Lame Stream Media.

Get off it, you’re like a broken record on every thread that mentions Mitt Romney. I suppose you’d prefer it if no one ever had an epiphany and got more conservative as they got older. Well, it happens all the time. It happened to Ronald Reagan, who by the way, was once pro-abortion, raised taxes, and granted amnesty to illegal aliens. You take the good with the bad, and hope as one matures, they get a brain as opposed to when they are younger and are idealistic and think from their heart instead of their head. I wonder whether you think at all, because you are this constant broken, repetitious whine. Things are as they are, the candidate is Mitt Romney; live with it.

“You are denying everything that we know about the man’s life”

Yeah, like he’s been married to the same woman all of his life, has 5 sons, all normal I might add, and oompty nine grandchildren, has counseled as Bishop of his church against abortion to parishioners considering one, tithes 10 percent of his income to his church, has done innumerable good deeds in his life to help his fellow man, took no salary as Gov of MA, took no salary as head of the Olympics Committee for 2 years of his life, saved the Olympics from disaster, I could go on but I’m tired of typing to someone when I know I’m wasting my time. You are myopic, prefer to stay that way, and a lost cause on the topic of Mitt Romney. Don’t vote for him, as you must surely prefer Obama.

Dear, Reagan was never pro-abortion, just as Romney was never pro-life, or conservative.

I challenge you to find the pro-abortion writings, speeches, campaigning, or quotes where he says that he is anything other than against abortion. Don’t confuse his rookie mistake in 1967 of signing a bill involving health of the mother, with what we know today.

You should learn to never use Reagan by comparing him to the despicable, Reagan hating liberal named Mitt Romney.

Romney has always despised Reagan and conservatism, Mitt even left the GOP in 1979 because of Reagan and the right ascending to control of the GOP. The liberal, draft dodging, pro-abortion, Massachusetts Governor is the anti-Reagan, the opposite of him.

Governor “Ronnie Raygun” was the right wing Governor of California, deeply hated by the left, and loved by the right, unlike failed one term Gov Romney (he left with 34% approval), the man who hated Reagan and was purely liberal, and anti-conservative

You mean 7 years of military service Captain Reagan, who by the second half of the 1940s was already starting to be seen as a communist fighting conservative, testifying to Congress and naming names, working with the FBI, having to carry a gun for self defense from the left, Reagan?

The last time Reagan voted Dem for President was 1948, for Romney it was 1992, By 1952 Reagan was campaigning for Republicans as a “Democrat for Eisenhower”, he kept using that anti-liberal, conservative club until 1962.

In 1952 Reagan was campaigning for Republicans like Eisenhower, who he campaigned for again in 1956, and then campaigned for Nixon against JFK in 1960, already having earned a reputation as an active speaker for conservatism for years.

The Reagan who formally registered Republican in 1962 and spoke at the Goldwater convention in 1964? Romney was already anti-Goldwater and anti-Reagan. Reagan was famous for his conservatism before the Vietnam War, and the Great Society, Roe V Wade, the abortion wars, Jimmy Carter, decades of Cold War defeats, and the radical 1960s, before the Reagan Revolution and the Contract with America, and Clinton, and the Gore election of 2000, Mitt Romney would not even register Republican during the Reagan Presidency or vote for him. Romney, at almost age 60, had a stroke (or something) and suddenly, unexplainedly, became a totally different person around 2006, merely to run for national office.

Yes, Bishop Mitt with the five non-military sons, the sons who sat through 11 years of war and two of dad’s campaigns to be Commander in Chief, with never a thought of enlisting, just like dear old dad did with Grandpa during the Vietnam war.

Bishop Mitt, who is REQUIRED to tithe that 10% to his cult, or else he will not become a God, and rule over a planet of worshipers, being their God as God is to us.

Bishop Mitt who was against abortion for Mormons, but heavily promoted abortion to the non-Mormons, and did fund raising for Planned Parenthood.

Interesting post in #23, Viennacon.

I have a few questions about George Soros... isn't he in his late 80s? What happens when he dies? Is there someone - or some evil organization - that will take over for him?

Which is why I take what the media says with a grain of salt. I believe many donors, like myself, are donating to others in House and Senate races because they are just as important. But during this economic disaster--which I still say is a depression, given how deep the US debt is, how high the "real" unemployment is, and how weak the dollar is--, money is tight and we have to budget accordingly. Romney will get a boost from me next month.

Fox, IMO, is hedging their bets, just in case the 0 and the D'rats are able to cheat enough to win. Either that, or they just want to scare the s#!t out of the Republicans. In either case, I'd say that shouldn't matter. With their tax-payer funded slush fund, Soros and rich Muslim oil barron support, Team 0 is going to cheat no matter what, and as conservatives, we (and Republicans) have to rally and focus to save this country no matter what. I don't want to see this country go through another unnecessarily prolonged, Great Depression; and if the 0 wins, we will definitely go down that path.

Once again the FReeper hand wringers are out in force, doing what they do best: responding with “woe is us” and fear.

It is disgusting beyond measure, spewing their defeatist loser vomit all over every thread. They need to go cower at the bottom of some hole and stay out of the way of the rest of us who are fighting like hell.

P.S., Reagan changed his viewpoint, just like Romney has changed his viewpoint on abortion. Now, good nite:

“Allowed abortion as CA Gov.; didn’t push pro-life as Pres.

Reagan was not as obsessive about anti-abortion legislation as he often seemed. Early in his California governorship he had signed a permissive abortion bill that has resulted in more than a million abortions. Afterward, he inaccurately blamed this outcome on doctors, saying that they had deliberately misinterpreted the law. When Reagan ran for president, he won backing from pro-life forces by advocating a constitutional amendment that would have prohibited all abortions except when necessary to save the life of the mother. Reagan’s stand was partly a product of political calculation, as was his tactic after he was elected of addressing the annual pro-life rally held in Washington by telephone so that he would not be seen with the leaders of the movement on the evening news. While I do not doubt Reagan’s sincerity in advocating an anti-abortion amendment, he invested few political resources toward obtaining this goal.

Source: The Role of a Lifetime, by Lou Cannon, p. 812 , Jul 2, 1991”

I might add that I loved Ronald Reagan, campaigned for him as a Republican Committeeman where I lived at the time, and received an invitation to his inaugural, which I still have and cherish. End of conversation.

No, Obama isn’t going to do that...

I cannot explain New York donors’ nervousness. But if their action is based on the state of the race today, it is foolish.

Besides, having the Republicans “hold on” to the House while letting Obamugabe retain power is barely a win.

In for a penny, in for a pound—if these people want to help, they should fund Super PACs going after the Kenyan Commie.

but the GOP or anyone else did not force Romney on anyone.

The change to open primaries and the monkey business regarding declaring Romney to be the winner when he wasn’t in a couple states points to a rigged game.
