Cut funding and take possession.

Sell off the properties to recoup a little bit of the millions and millions of taxpayer dollars sunk into the enterprise.

They should cut their funding of everything they fund. Cut it all by 20 percent minimum.

“I don’t think 43 + 6% bleeding hearts realize how much royalties the makers of Sesame Street gets and how much PBS makes through donations and grants without the Federal funding. “

No joke. The run on Tickle me Elmo, alone. + PBS/ NPR are favorite “pet charities”. They definitely *would* close the gap & quickly. Re DU- oh, no doubt! (I imagine it’s in the “meta” forum, though)

to dynachrome- I bet as many people feel strongly about this as about illegals. This just isn’t what government is for, at any level. (Next stop: National Endowment for the Arts & those “special conservation projects” like providing cabins for the Ridley turtle researchers on Padre Island & other nonsense going on in our national parks.) If people knew just how *much* money is leaving DC for totally frivolous & unnecessary reasons, we probably *would* see a mob in DC.

“Start cuts with Sesame Street”

Agreed!! I never turned the television on when my daughters were very young - we had better things to do. Theye barely knew we owned one. I taught them the alphabet myself and the one who is now 20 and an acting BFA had mastered reading before kindergarten. Sesame Street and all early television contributes to ADD and short attention spans because it does not encourage concentration skills. If anything it actively discourages concentration skills. So called educational TV also sets up the expectation that learning = shallow electronic entertainment. Reading real books IS fun, but forms a different set of skills that the young brain needs to be taught to value. There is a window for this formation, and the foundation is not laid by watching TV, “educational” or otherwise.

By the end of 1990s...both NPR and PBS had become comical political machines......

I used to watch some of the PBS shows but I can't remember the last time I turned to that channel. Every nature show is the same, global warming, habitat destruction, blah, blah.

MTV went the same way. Originally all music videos (my kids watched, I didn't) and now it's an indoctrination channel. Really nasty stuff.
Girls 16 y.o. are intentionally getting pregnant to audition for one of their shows 'Sixteen and Pregnant. That's sick.
I'm not going to say 'remove it', but it should be a premium channel, or at least not in the basic and extended pkg.

Romney hit the nail on the head when in the debate he said this:

What things would I cut from spending? Well, first of all, I will eliminate all programs by this test — if they don't pass it: Is the program so critical it's worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And if not, I'll get rid of it.

God bless the bishop if he was telling the truth, and actually will stand by it, this time.
