WASHINGTON (AP) -- America's top military officer is opposing the demotion of a four-star general for lavish travel and other expenses in a case that has been sitting on Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's desk for weeks... Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, believe that Gen. William Ward, (who claims a place in history as first) commander of Africa Command, should retire at his full four-star general.

Funny how Wikipedia mentions hundreds of thousands of dollars of (theft, IMO), yet the excerpt from the left-leaning newspaper makes it seem like just hundreds or a few thousand dollars.

200 thousand of my tax dollars for a retired desk pilot? Unbelievable how open the looting of the public treasury is these days. Enough is enough.

YEP -- and yet whenever they talk about entitlement reform these outrageous public pensions are never on the table.

If these allegations are true and it sure looks as if they are, Gen. Dempsey backing Gen. Ward on this says as much about Dempsey's lack of honor as Ward's, if not more.

Unfortunately, when the country is saddled with a president and CinC who sets a horrible example as has Obama those with moral shortcomings will surface, this seems to be the case here.

Thanks for the ping.

"And if you’ve never passed out in a PT run at least once in the military, then you weren’t trying hard enough." Huh?

Both strong possibilities, but I suspect it may be something as simple as Dempsey having his political tongue up Ubama's political ass.

I’d actually give him a pass on the Bermuda stop. The only reason the military base there exists is so that generals can fly their Lear-type jets in to make overnight “fuel stops” combined with “crew rest”, get in a round of golf, eat dinner and sleep in a suite at the Ritz, and slurp $2 cocktails at the Officers’ Club. Pretty hard to nail this guy on something that’s been common-practice among generals for literally decades. It should’ve been BRAC’d before BRAC was even thought of.

I like the 5-car motorcades. Who is this whack, Idi Amin?

I heard that this guy got his wife on all his trips by inventing a fictional employee (a “Captain Tuttle”, for those of you who watched M*A*S*H when it was still watchable) and having his wife travel on those travel orders. Don’t know if that’s really true but I seem to remember reading it somewhere.

Don’t forget flaming homo Weseley “Advocate Magazine” Clark. That moron’s career had one foot in grave and the other on a banana peel. He made 4-star rank overnight after engaging civilians with military hardware and personnel on Klinton/Reno’s orders. That bastard better hope I never meet him out on the town (highly doubtful, I don’t hang around gay bars).

Absolutely. Gen. Dempsey sees nothing wrong because this kind of behavior is SOP among commanding generals, it’s a standard perk when you get flag rank.

Kinda makes you wonder how Ward got caught up in this scandal. My guess is a disgruntled staffer, probably a white boy who got sick of shining the general’s shoes, squiring his spoiled wife on shopping trips, and being taxi driver for his drunk kids. I’d rather scrub toilets.

That was 20 years ago. A decade in Washington probably warped his brain.
