Free birth control led to dramatically lower rates of abortions and teen births, a large study concludes. The findings were eagerly anticipated and come as a bitterly contested Obama administration policy is poised to offer similar coverage.
The project tracked more than 9,000 women in St. Louis, many of them poor or uninsured. They were given their choice of a range of contraceptive methods at no cost from birth control pills to goof-proof options like the IUD or a matchstick-sized implant.

Yes, and providing them with taxpayer funded baby killing ability is enabling them and their useless male partners.
Free to whom?? It isn’t FREE... the TAXPAYERS are paying for it!!!
If you are for the pill then you really are for abortions when the baby is about a week old.
Really? I thought the pill only prevented getting pregnant...
...not killing an embryo
Well gee, if that's your goal...just think how well an outright ban on abortions would work.
AND IT WOULDN'T COST ANYTHING!
Maybe you misunderstood my initial post...
Only give birth control that prevents conception ...
It’s NOT free. We the Taxpayers would pay for it. Oh, so now we are single-handedly responsible for stopping abortions? Or we could be if we weren’t so penny-pinching. There’s sieve-logic for you.
Taxpayer promotion and endorsement of recreational sex (when maybe they should be working, by the way).
Read up. birth control does not reduce abortion.
Did not misunderstand. Birth control chemically induces abortion, plus birth control statisically increases abortion even where not doing so chemically - promotes a non- accountability, non- marital mindset.
LOL...not hardly...
Thanks for the link...
I did not know that...
The reason is because my wife of 33 years and the mother of our six children never used the pill, so we never really had any reason to understand...it's effect..
And free cars leads to less car theft, but that doesn’t mean I should have to pay for Johnny Hijack’s free car.
Let me guess.
Take a control group of representative American women of childbearing age who for some reason do not take birth control and then take a similar socially group that does take birth control.
Observe: incidence of surgical abortion is less in the second group.
Tell me if this study is in any way different.
Well, this proves nothing because both groups are taken from the population that does not consider contracepted sex prima facie sinful. The evil of birth control is that it leads to a mentality where pregnancies are for the most part unwanted. That is may prevent some pregnancies that otehrwise would end in an abortion is a self-evident fact but it does not lead to the conclusion sought: that increased use of contraception is desirable. It is still not desirable.
You are right to be skeptical. The study did not prove that “free” birth control lead to fewer abortions. What it proved was that methods of contraceptives that were not vulnerable to human error were more effective in preventing pregnancy and thus there were fewer abortions. I write this because of the study 75% of the women involved chose an IUD or the Patch. Amongst the general population on 5.5% of women using contraceptives choose these methods. The majority use oral contraceptives which have a larger failure rate because of human error. These errors range from forgetting to take a pill to not knowing they may not work if you are on antibiotics. So take away the possibility of human error and you have a lower failure rate. Never mind the health consequences of this or that IUDs can cause abortion.
So I call foul on the study. I also wonder why no one noticed the demographics of their study population. Those demographics show less of a concern for women’s health and more of a concern that there are too many poor Black babies being born. It would not surprise me if what is touted as a great choice today is demanded as compulsory in the future.
Remember scratch the heart of a population control advocate and you find a eugenicist.
My objection to the ObamaCare solution is that we've had free birth control for poor women for at least 40 years.
Like you, I agree that free birth control is a better choice than free abortions.
But I don't understand why Obama’s new program will work, when the multitude of older programs have not.
Exactly
