Mitt Romney and the empty PODIUM: New Yorker magazine cover pokes fun at Obama's disaster debate (with apologies to Clint Eastwood)
We had Clint Eastwood debating an empty chair that represented Barack Obama at the Republican convention. Now, the 'New Yorker' magazine is depicting the President as a debate podium with an empty chair behind it.
Next week's cover carries an illustration entitled 'One on One' by Barry Blitt , who explains: 'This image seemed like a proper response to the first Presidential debate but Im not sure I realised how hard it is to caricature furniture.'
No one's there: New Yorker magazine's forthcoming cover will poke fun at Obama's weak performance at the first presidential debate
Blitt shows a confident looking Mitt Romney on the right wagging his finger, a diminutive Jim Lehrer, the moderator, looking downwards in the centre, and on the right - no-one, just an empty chair.
The cover echoes the widespread criticism that Obama was effectively AWOL during the debate, declining to engage with Romney or rebut any of his points. Afterwards, liberal MSNBC host Chris Matthews wailed on air: 'Where was Obama tonight?'
For the liberal 'New Yorker' to carry such a cover is all the more remarkable because David Remnick, the magazine's editor, is an admirer of Obama who wrote a positive and well-received book on the President entitled 'The Bridge'.
The cover - and Obama's debate performance - could be seen as a degree of vindication for the Romney advisers who gave Eastwood a prime-time slot on the final night of the Republican convention in Tampa and allowed him to ad-lib his speech.
At the time, senior Republicans were livid with some calling for top Romney aides to be fired. But although Eastwood's improv show was panned by...

Clint laughs last.
The media is trying to paint the debate disaster as Obama just sucking without giving Mitt any credit. They don’t want to admit that one of the reasons Obama sucked was because Romney KICKED HIS A$$.
I am sure the Romney team has considered this and sure they are ready for everything and anything.
There are some things for which you can prepare all you want and there will still be damage. Remember: Obama can lie at will and for the most part will get away with it. My guess is not only will the questions be prepared, they'll be in a scripted order. Zero will have the whole thing teed up as if on the teleprompter. The key is to disrupt the game early to force him to drop his game plan, else the show will be too transparent. We'll see how Romney does.
The empty chair (as opposed to a mere empty podium) is a direct reference to Clint Eastwood’s speech at the RNC, which was roundly criticized by the left (and even some on the right). How times have changed! The pressure on Obama and his diehards is immense. The bogus jobs report has not has the intended effect. It is nothing more than another phony poll. Romney/Ryan signs are cropping up everywhere. Obama is no longer “cool” to all but a few misguided fools. The People can’t wait for the next debate. Obama is feeling pressure that he never felt before. Mitt should have a field day during the foreign policy debate. (Note to Romney campaign: Killing Bin Laden is NOT a foreign policy. It is a strategic objective that was in place since 2001).
The cover picture seems to be the New Yorker editor’s way of saying, I do not like Barack Obama anymore; I fervently hope he does not win re-election; and, if my liberal friends want to call me a racist, or my liberal bosses want to fire me over this, go ahead, make my day.
If I could get Clint to sign the cover
That would be priceless.

What's Damnable About Obama's Hampton Speech
Damnable was yanked from the editorial sidebar. I guess that title was too tough for a family forum. The next link was RealClearPolitics' title for the same trenchant essay. Could somebody try to post the last link in the editorial sidebar for the rest of the forum?
Some noteworthy articles about politics, foreign or military affairs, IMHO, FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
P.S. If you moved since your last election, know a family member or friend who needs to register to vote or apply for an absentee ballot, then there may be deadlines coming very soon. They are in NY.
it is not possible for being critical of a man who isn’t there to be racist
That was LBJ, talking about Walter Cronkite.
IIRC, both campaigns are given an equal number of tickets. Not sure that holds true for questions and/or questioners.
No wonder I couldn’t find it. Thanks. Been googling the wrong folks.
Yep. When Cronkite came out against the Vietnam war, that was the tipping point for LBJ. There wasn’t much point in running, if Cronkite wasn’t with him.
I think we may be seeing a similar tipping point for Obama, as regards some members of the MSM. He doesn’t have a hope of being re-elected without their wind in his sails.
Actually, it probably won’t matter anyway. They’re not as influential as they were in Cronkite’s day, and the country is sick to death of Obie. I don’t know if anyone could convince the people to give Obama a second chance.
IMHO, it's a real up your's from his biographer!
There are certain rules to follow.
Although they did this excellent piece on Rick Rescorla:

Much hand-wringing is being done over the upcoming "town forum" debate but I think Romney will do just fine.
Thanks for the link.
