The production company behind Sesame Street is asking political campaigns to refrain from using their characters in campaign ads — including an Obama campaign ad that uses Big Bird.

"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down," the company said in a Tuesday statement.

How many other presidents have been asked not to use someone’s name to promote themselves? Hussein has been asked to not wear a soldier’s bracelet. There was another soldier’s family who requested he not use their son’s name. And now he’s asked not to use a trademarked puppet.

Was the intentional mention of Big Bird in last week’s debate a deliberate attempt to associate Barry0, once more, with the lightweight and frivolous?

I’m beginning to think so. And it’s working.

From Sen. Jim DeMint via the Wall Street Journal:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703559604576176663789314074.html

“Sesame Street make millions on their own. “Sesame Street,” for example, made more than $211 million from toy and consumer product sales from 2003-2006. Sesame Workshop President and CEO Gary Knell received $956,513 in compensation in 2008. With earnings like that, Big Bird doesn’t need the taxpayers to help him compete against the Nickleodeon cable channel’s Dora the Explorer.”

That's exactly the kind of public scrutiny they're desperately hoping to avoid.

This is the best sign yet that Mitt won the debate last week, if even PBS suddenly wants to be seen as “non-partisan” (at least until November 7).

Uh oh. Big Bird is in it deep now. Obama is a vindictive politician. And he won't like them publicly telling his folks to put away the only potentially effective advertisement his folks have come up with in 6 months.

Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us

Canada—we’re shooting your geese.
