On this mornings edition of CNBCs Squawk Box, reporters Rick Santelli and Steve Liesman got into an epic shouting match over the formers suggestion that the recent 7.8% unemployment figure may have been an intentional election-year manipulation by the administration.
Host Joe Kernen interrupted Liesmans rant disputing the anti-BLS charges to give Santelli a shot, saying he was tired of listening to you, which prompted Liesman to angrily say: Thats pleasant. Thats good stuff, Joe.
Santelli ranted about the poor state of the economy, despite the decrease in unemployment, and then added that he had predicted months ago that the September jobs report would be below 8%, implying the administration would fudge the numbers for positive press just before the election Take it any way you want! Santelli said.
Rick, what youre implying with your comment Liesman interrupted.
Im not implying anything, Santelli shouted back. Im telling you and it turned out that way. Im a market whisperer.
Why say it? responded Liesman. It was the same point Jack Welch made.
Because its true! I like people to get the benefit of my 32 years in the market. There was no doubt it would be under 8 percent.

“I imagine CNBC is afraid if they got rid off him he’d go to Fox Business and take part of the audience with him.”
I doubt Fox Business needs both viewers he’d bring.
Rick Santelli is the father of the modern-day Tea Party. When he yells, people should shut up and listen.
Absolutely. God bless Santelli.
Steve Leisman is a BULLY...a RUDE BULLY.
We have to win this election before the morons who believe this crap outnumber us.

I agree; fortunately unemployment (and our unreported inflation) are hard to hide from the average person. It is hard to convince a former breadwinner that his/her new part-time job at Wal-Mart is a good economic indicator, and it is hard to convince people paying twice as much for gas or groceries that things are looking up. Rush was right when he said Obama should have a huge lead with the media working for him; the fact that it looks bleak for him is because people still have eyes.
why didn’t he come right out and say the books are cooked why pussyfoot around

Yup! And from what I understand, CNBC's Joe Kernen is pretty conservative as well.
Thanks for this thread, bronxville. Here's the video:

Wow, that video was pretty crazy.
Rick Santelli is the father of the modern-day Tea Party. When he yells, people should shut up and listen.Oh man that is a fact!
And the first part, he sure is.
He inspired a FR member to set up a Tea Party in Sacto on Feb 27, 2009 and it was that Tea Party that inspired the Tea Party Express.
I can't seem to get the video to play, I'll try it in another brozer.
Did you see the partially bald guy behind Santelli?
He put his feet up on the desk by his keyboard and relaxed watching a blank computer screen. LOL!
True. Rick Santelli IS the father of the modern day Tea Party(we owe the guy)... Thanks Rick Santelli - where ever you are...
Nice ping nutmeg.
VIVA Santelli!
Thanks for the ping!
Heard the audio earlier. Loved it.
I saw this exchange live, and watch the show most days.
IMHO, Stevie Lies-Man is not comfortable with ideas. He is a nit-picker and not suited to be on CNBC.
Lies-Man is the most comfortable with reams and reams of printed data.
Lies-Man commonly concludes his comments on the latest data with “ What is really interesting about this data is how it will compare to next weeks data.” IOW, Lies-Man is incapable of making a decision.
Hence, when an expert decision maker, such as Santelli, discuss data together, Lies-Man flies into an angry rage because he knows that he cannot make decisions, and his opponent can do so easily.
Someone with a hair trigger temper such as Lies-Man is trying to scare off the more reasoned opponent. Santelli the floor trader doesn’t scare, and that makes Lies-Man even madder.
Santelli knows how to handle bullies, especially “Reason-Challenged” nit-pickers such as Lies-Man.
As the financial horrors of Obamanation continue to throw America into an almost certain financial death spiral, it will be Lies-Man, and NYT Journalist/host Andrew Ross Sorkin of CNBC that will continue to deny the undeniable - - - .
