HOUSE COMMITTEE INVESTIGATES GOVERNMENT LOAN FOR SOLAR PANELS THAT BURST INTO FLAMES

A congressional oversight panel wants to know when the Obama administration became aware of significant technological issues at a renewable energy company it helped fund, including the propensity of its solar panels to burst into flames when exposed to the sun.

Abound Solar Manufacturing was awarded a $400 million line-of-credit in taxpayer-backed loans from the Energy Department (DOE), and is the third company funded by President Barack Obama’s stimulus plan to go bankrupt, along with Solyndra and Beacon Power.

Republican Reps. Fred Upton of Michigan, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, along with Cliff Stearns of Florida and Cory Gardner of Colorado, sent a letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu on Wednesday instructing the agency to turn over certain information on the loan.

You don't know much about panels. Take a 385W panel at 24V. What is I if P=I*E?

Even cooks can do that math.

Solar panels are dangerous like gasoline is dangerous. Know what they can do, don't tease the tiger, and everything is good. Get stupid, and your world turns to crap.

Ridiculously hyperbolic post. Yes, a single panel is an object to be feared. I hope you're making a joke.

Now take a battery bank of 1,250 amp hours and short it and you have some flame potential.

Instead of attacking the basic changes in energy supply created by this regime which are directly contributing to the recipients dependency on whatever the regime is handing out ,by design.

Too many pundits drawn from their limited personal immediate surrounding and life style are attacking the recipients with condemnation for using what a one time was termed “relief” .They are demonstrating they haven’t a clue what a retiree on a fixed income or even those out of work are going through at this time. And that’s the problem.

You have a regime which by design is driving up the costs and uses of energy the most a basic resource because it suits its socialist matrix. What’s even worse is the massive corrpution resulting from that regime doling out tons of funds towards its campaign donners for so called alternate forms which don’t work or are laughingly inefficient . That’s getting a pass even by the Romney campaign and a huge mistake because this policy affects everyone. It is a bread a butter issue.

Not hyperbolic. E=I*R. P=I*E. That's water is wet, fire burns kind of stuff.

I have seen an injury from a single miswired panel (not me, another idiot).

I lived off-grid in the mountains for over a year with a bank of batteries and some solar panels for 'lektrikity.

On the serious side...

http://www.solarenergy.net/News/1191001-abound-solar-picks-up-12.6-million-tax-credit.aspx

“Also not expected to affect solar panel production was a fire at the factory about 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day, in a single piece of line machinery which was largely extinguished before firefighters from the Mountain View Fire Protections District arrived on the scene.

However, because the deposition material, cadmium telluride, is toxic, 11 workers and four firefighters were sent to Longmont United Hospital for evaluation.”

So, who is going to pick up the tab for the toxic waste disposal at their abandoned factory? I’ll bet it will be the taxpayers.....

To #24” No, you are not a “flamist”.

The President is a Flaming Idiot.

There. Rest easy blueunicorno.

PS: IN San Francisco, Obummer is known as a “Flamer”. It’s also his Secret Service name.

Michele’s “Animal House” nickname is “Wide Load.”

Chose your own short circuit voltage. P still equals I*E.

...solar panels burst into flames when exposed to the sun.

Well, the solution is so simple, I'm amazed nobody has thought of it.
