The Silent Exodus(Obamacare docs quitting)

Patients should expect increasing difficulty accessing medical care, according to a survey of 13,575 physicians. The survey commissioned by The Physicians Foundation estimates that "44,250...physicians will be lost from the workforce in the next four years. The survey also found that over the next one to three years, more than 50 percent of physicians will cut back on patients seen, work part-time, switch to concierge medicine, retire, or take other steps likely to reduce patient access. In addition, should 100,000 physicians transition from practice-owner to employed status over the next four years (such as working in a hospital setting), the survey indicates that this will lead to 91 million fewer annual patient encounters."

So much for Obama's promise that "If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period." According to the survey, 57.9 percent would not recommend medicine as a career. Fully 77 million babyboomers are exiting employment and entering Medicare, but "No one has enough doctors...It doesn't matter where you are," says Tommy Bohannon from the physician search firm Merritt Hawkins.

My wife’s OBGYN is in her early 60s and still paying back her school loans — and that’s from an era when med school was still somewhat affordable. Good luck to your son. Hopefully he can land some big-name pro-sports customers. Seems like sports medicine is where the money is these days. “Boutique practices” as the article calls them.

The family pratitioners I have gone to for the past 30 years have expanded and expanded and have built giant clinics. Just walked through one, lots of exam rooms, looks like they are going to be hiring lots of NPs and assistants and do more of a factory based outpatient setting.

They also have all specialities under their wings and refer there first. and have all imaging and labs other services in their different locations.

They actually should think of opening their own hosptial.

A neighbor of mine works as an ER Doc in Singapore. Works a month or so, home for a month or so. Seems to enjoy it.

Better save up those vacation and sick days
for camping out at the obamacare clinic.

I received a letter from my ENT at the end of Sept that he was closing his practice effective 10/26. At my last visit we had a very in-depth conversation about Obamacare and everything that is going on, so yes, he has quit his successful practice specifically because of it.

Our family dr & our ENT are both against it. They will likely retire, they are old enough.

Say hello to Dr. Muhammad.

Indeed. Anyone who's observed the British system for any length of time could predict this. Obamacare will drive highly skilled people to other employment. A shortage of physicians and nurses will result. The gap will be filled with domestic "90 day wonders" and frauds bearing 3rd world medical credentials. One need only look at the daily horror stories of patient "care" in the British press to see how this turns out.

If I was one of the HIV Positive individuals that were on the ASIDS Cocktails, I would be getting nervious. Soon the most dangerous place for an old person to be will be a "doctor's" office.

There is a business in town [Plant City] that is closing up after several decades.Right after obana assumed power, I was in there to buy something and I talked with the owner and told him that obama was going to close him down by closing the businesses that supported [kept him in business]down. He looked at me like I did not know I was talking about. [I was going to write , he looked at me like I was stupid, but a lot of people do thaton a daily basis]And replied"No, he [obama] won't. He is going to make things better. Yesterday, I stopped in there and asked him,"Remember What I told you?" He replied in a bitter tone of voice, "Yes, I do and he did". Another lesson learned the hard way.

All the good and decent ones are going or will be gone by the time the pimple faced puss blobs that so gleefully put obama in power will need their services. They will be replaced with Affirmative Actions and political appointees that will not know one of a syringe from another. With the good doctors going, medical research will also accompany them. With obamacare the practice of medicine is beginning a journey back to the middle ages
