Romney's Ad Buy Tops President's
Wall Street Journal Online ^ | 10 Oct 2012 | Laura Meckler and Danny Yadron

For the first week of this election season, Mitt Romney is outspending President Barack Obama on television ads, with the Republican challenger dipping into a war chest amassed from an aggressive fundraising schedule.

Mr. Romney will spend about $16.8 million on television ads this week, according to ad-tracking data provided by media buyers, while Mr. Obama will spend about $15.5 million, down 30% from a week earlier, when the campaign spent heavily to air a two-minute, pre-debate spot.

.When spending by independent super PACs is included, the mismatch is wider. Mr. Romney and his allies will combine for $31.4 million this week, compared with $19.7 million for Mr. Obama and his supporters, according to data from one media tracker.

"A lot of the super PACs kind of were sitting there tepidly," said Kyle Roberts, head of Smart Media Group, a Republican ad-buying firm. "You're seeing them get back in the game."

The GOP advantage represents an additional fillip for Mr. Romney, who is riding a post-debate wave that has seen his poll numbers improve as the race enters its final stage.

>>It appears exactly that is what’s happening... at least here in VA. We’re now seeing the beginning of the endgame... Romney appears to be closing the deal.

The great thing about it is that while the Romney side is getting traction, the Obama side is getting increasingly desperate. The whole thing seems to be snowballing to a point where only the thirsty koolaid drinker would believe Obama is a viable candidate.

I live in SE VA and there's an obama ad on every channel I watch, every commersial break.

Are you sure some of those aren't just news updates? Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

Obama appearing with Diane Sawyer is part of the free media exposure he can command. Softball interviews to help his campaign. The MSM is happy to comply.

“Earlier reports I have heard several times now are that the dems will stop advertising heavy, they have to do some or look weak,in NC,VA and FLa.hard to imagine.
Thats good and bad. If they do it will concentrate adv.in other places like ohio, colo.,etc.”

I think what you mean is that they know they have essentially lost NC, VA, and FL, but they cannot totally pull out of these states because of the negative publicity it might generate, so they are scaling back there and redirecting resources to states they think they still have a chance in — like Ohio and CO.

Yep. Romeny is money smart. I’ve said that all along.

POTUS is his lifetime ambition. He’s in it to win it.

God speed, R&R!

Lord, hear our prayers.

The Marxist must go, along with every other possible demonic-rat.

Romney IS smart. And ruthless.

I'm not voting for him, but he's playing a much deeper game than Obama. I expect Romney to win. I just wish he were conservative.

I’ve decided to vote for Romney and I now can’t wait.

The Marxist has to be defeated.

The demonic-rats vote against God and Jerusalem sealed it for me.

I’m very happy with my decision.

Texas will go for Romney/Ryan.

God bless and keep you, Johnny.

I expect Romney will win much more than Texas. The man is a lot of things, but he's not stupid or ignoring reality, unlike Obama.

The carpet-bombing has begun!

0 has $1M's to spend, according to "reports". He could be spending it on ads but, according to Dick Morris, has not bought spots in several battleground state markets.

0 must be banking his foreign donations for his retirement.

You must be getting our ads (Tennessee). I haven’t seen a peep out of either candidate!

No worries. I'm the perpetual conservative thorn in the side of the GOP. I know my vote doesn't count in presidential elections.

Cruz for Senate, and getting rid of Dewhurst in 2014... that I can make a difference with.

I live in East Tennessee from where the TV ads are broadcast into South west Virginia. By my count there are 4 or 5 Romney ads being broadcast into what was once Rick Boucher (Dem) land for only 1 Obama ad. He lost to a Republican.

Some of the Romney ads are very hard hitting coal ads. Blood is being drawn

The Obama ad is the now stale Romney is rich ad..

The Obama team has written off Southwest Virginia.

Lucky you! I see or hear obama ads every time I turn around. obama ads are running 10 to 1 over romney ads in my market. Hope that changes soon.

I think Romney might be a closet conservative. Let’s help him “find himself”.

The alleged GOP conservatives in congress can't find their @$$es with a flashlight tied behind their back when a Marxist is in charge. How do you expect to sway Romney to 'find himself'?

Everybody sighs relief when Romney wins and then wonders why we are in a handbasket, and where we're headed.
