Poll Shows Romney Leading Obama among Jews
Arutz Sheva ^ | 11/10/12 | Gil Ronen

A tracking poll published Thursday by TIPP for Investors' Business Daily shows the hard-to-believe statistic of 44% support for Mitt Romney among likely Jewish voters, versus 40% for Obama, with 16% undecided.

The statistic is qualified with the comment that it is based on a small sample and should therefore be viewed with caution.

The poll was conducted among 812 likely voters, with an 8% advantage for registered Democrats over Republicans.

If the numbers are in any way close to representing reality, they reflect an unprecedented shift in Jewish voting preferences. Jews have voted overwhelmingly for Democratic presidential candidates for decades. Obama enjoyed 78% of the Jewish vote in the 2008 election.

Jewish support for Obama has been slipping recently. In September, the TIPP poll gave him 59% versus 35% for Romney. That in itself was seen as quite an accomplishment for Romney. It was not far from the 40 percent number in support of Dwight Eisenhower recorded by Jews in 1956, which was the highest backing by Jews for a Republican in nearly a century.

I have spoken with 2 Jewish business pals recently.

Both voted for Obama.

Both say no way in hell will they do it again.

Hope this is indicative of a trend.

The poll states that it was a “small sample, interpret with caution”.

If true, it puts PA and even NJ in play.

You are probably aware of (I hope I get the right name) Republican Jewish Colalition that has been working in PA, NJ and FLA and causing a lot of heartburn.....

GOOD on them. Some Jewish people look at taxes as paying a tithing of sort. That is dead bang wrong headed. Government is NOT a charity.

And with an 8 point Democrat over sample as well! Obama may end up being the first Democrat to lose the Jewish vote since they started keeping score in 1916.

I am still confused on how they know they are calling Jewish people. Do we have a little star next to our name in the phone book that I never noticed?

They asked each respondent their religious preference -- Catholic, Prstestant, other Christian, Jewish, Other. I.e., no star unless you asked for one.

Of an 812 total sample, I can't imagine there being more 25-30 Jewish respondents -- in which case the sample is way too small to be a reliable measure of Jewish presidential preferences.

I hope so. They certainly better be using my money wisely!

There maybe something else at work here... This may seem strange, but Romney is less of a threat as a Mormon than an Evangelical (or insert other here) given how often Mormon’s are misconstrued, as Jews they can relate...

Thanks.

I don’t know if I understand the term Nazarines in the context of being Jewish

“evangelical” is considered presstitute code for wacko Christians. I think of it as semantic trick to drive a wedge in to Christianity.

I am unable to divide the Jewish population further than those on Free Republic and those in New York and Florida. The only Jews I know personally are here, Freepers. There are almost none hereabouts

I'll believe it when I see it.

I expect it to be closer than normal, but if we get 35-40%, I'll be very happy.

I have pinched myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. This is too good to be true. Could it be true?

All I can tell you is that in my heavily liberal Jewish (reformed and secular) town, the Obama...Oy Vey! yard signs outnumber the three or four Obama yard signs I've seen.

For a few weeks, the ONLY yard signs we were seeing were a smattering of anti-Obama signs. Finally, a few Romney signs, then Obama signs started to appear. In the last week, the Romney signs have taken over and there are virtually no Obama. It's unbelievable and a huge departure from the last few presidential elections where the Dems have probably had a slight advantage. I'm in a first ring Philadelphia upper middle class suburb with lots of limosine liberals, many if not most of whom are Jewish.

Don't know if the libs just don't have their signs out yet or if the Obama campaign hasn't been generous with them or what. My Hillary loving Jewish neighbor is voting Romney. She was very upset over the booing of Israel at the Dem convention.

Yes, that’s my point. If they were “evangelical,” they would not be considered Jewish, or would be considered heretical Jewish people.

Perhaps I am losing you in my non-American English. Sorry.

In Nevada, we're getting polled two and three times a day every day for the last few months.

I would say that at least half of those polls a month or so ago asked for religious affiliation, whether they were robo-calls or had a genuine human being asking the questions.

And don’t forget, we haven’t even had the foreign-policy debate yet, during which Romney will undoubtedly bring up his friendly meeting with Netanyahu this summer in Israel, and the importance of Israel as an ally, etc.

And what will Obama say in response? If he says anything nice about Israel he will antagonize the all-important Louis Farrakhan wing of the Democratic party, so he’ll probably just say a few ‘’uh’’s and ‘’er’’s move on quickly.

I think the breakout of Dems vs GOP is questionable, since Jewish voters are easily 2:1 registered Democrats.

Still I think the results are intersting to say the least.

For the first time in my life, I am ashamed to be an American. They are not going to vote for my husband, just because he’s made the US into a mockery of its former self in terms of power and prestige internationally; just because the economy remains in the toilet no matter how hard we flush it; just because we spend all our time on vacations and the golf course; just because the dollar isn’t what it used to be and probably never will be again if we can help it; just because we extend a hand to Islam and withdraw one from that Jooo! thing over there shaped like a triangle; just because my thighs make the ground shake when I walk; nobody wants to vote for my husband. RACISM!
