Independent voters and party switchers are providing the edge for Democrat Bill Nelson as he maintains his lead over Republican challenger Connie Mack in the U.S. Senate race.....
Mack narrowed the margin to 47 to 42 percent, three points tighter than it was last month, but the Fort Myers congressman didn’t seem to benefit from the eight-point surge of support for Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Florida.
Nelson continues to lead among voters who are not affiliated with any party, getting 51 percent support among independent voters to Mack’s 37 percent.
The Orlando Democrat also enjoys some crossover appeal, with 6 percent of the voters surveyed voting for both Romney and Nelson.
“This isn’t a wave election so you may see some purposeful ticket-splitting because people are a little bit divided in their view over what the parties are offering,’’said Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker.
..........Nelson’s lead may be steady but he’s not out of the woods, said Coker. “Anytime an incumbent is under 50(percent)you sort of have to really watch the race,’’ he said.
The steady number of undecided voters “might give Mack a little bit of hope,’’because more than half of them lean Republican,Coker said.
Among the undecided voters, 4 percent also said they are supporting Romney and 1 percent are supporting President Obama;two percent are undecided in both races.
“There is the potential there for Romney to pull Mack up,’’ Coker said. My only question is,does Mack have the organization and campaign and resources to make it happen? He can’t just rely on coattails.”
The two candidates in the race who are running with no party affiliation—Chris Borgia, an Iraqi war veteran from Fort Lauderdale and Bill Gaylor a Marine Corps veteran from Indian Harbor Beach — drew 3 percent and one percent of the vote respectively......

Per conservative newpaper The Apopka Chief here in Florida “10,000 +” people were at the rally in the small town of Apopka last Saturday. The Apopka Chief said the city had only 3 days notice of this event yet look how many people came! Connie Mack was there as well as Dan Webster. I cannot help but think these rallies are helping Connie Mack.
Well, the article doesn’t come out and say it, but Nelson is one of Congress’ twelve appropriators, and therefore one of the most powerful members on the Hill. He can and does use the Treasury as his own personal pork barrel for his district, and this is why he keeps getting re-elected. No real surprise here.
I take that to be the same poll in which they had Romney well ahead of Obama—not a good sign.
Mack seems worth fighting for despite the whole political dynasty thing, which I’m not generally keen on.
I wonder if there’s some sort of tea party or other last minute boost available.
Notice our enemies have learned NOT to include the sampling breakdowns. PPP skipped that detail in its report on Nevada and these guys to likewise here.

Nason Dixon is usually pretty good in Florida if I remember correctly. That being said Mack is close to the MOE and making progress

That would explain all the Nelson signs I don’t see.
"Would end Medicare", "bar room fighter", "a past of liens and debts", "Hooters promoter", "road rage", "skips big votes", "sense of entitlement"......these are some of the slams against Mack excerpted from Nelson's ad.
Mack's ads are rather bland and uninspiring. It's a wonder that his percentages are as high as they are.
However, I'm convinced that Florida will go big for Romney and, by the grace of God, Mack will slide into home plate hanging onto Mitt's coat tails.

I have to listen to Nelson’s attack ads everyday as well. I keep wondering when Mack is going to go after Nelson. but so far NOTHING. Frustrating, NELSON HAS TO GO!!

We don’t watch a lot of TV, but I have not seen one Connie Mack ad...just lots of ads that are from the Nelson side and very negative.
I’m surprised Nelson didn’t accuse him of “not being a baseball fan”!/s;)
