The commander of a US nuclear submarine faked his own death to end an affair with a woman he had got pregnant.
Michael Ward, 43, has been relieved of command of the USS Pittsburgh after the woman, 23, contacted the US navy after receiving a letter saying that he had been killed in the line of duty.
The letter said: I am extremely sorry to tell you that he is gone. We tried everything we could to save him. I cannot say more.
The woman, who later lost the baby, went to Mr Wards home to offer condolences to his family but discovered that he had simply moved house. He has been reprimanded by the navy.
Mr Ward, who is married with children, met the woman on an online dating site and they exchanged emails before spending the weekend together while he was on training operations in Norfolk, Virginia.
Sounds like an episode from NCIS.
Not only a liar, but incredibly stupid.
Let’s see... They can be publicly, sexually confused and commit sodomy, but they’re not allowed to emulate an adult version of the main character in “Leave It to Beaver?”
yup.
Article 134 Adultery

Maximum punishment.
Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 1 year
When I reported for duty on a submarine as a young officer, I was shocked to see that the XO had his girlfriend on the ship. He would bring her down to stay overnight and of course his wife never found out.
The CO moron took it to another level and he may find it ends his career, but don't bet on it.
Her husbands mistress shows up on the doorstep? The wife may be widow yet. Hubby better stay on extended sea duty.
I dead you fooool!
What I look liek to yu...
Reminds me of Cary Grant’s line in the movie Operation Pettycoat, “The law protects below age 18, mother nature protects after age 65, but in between they’re fair game.”
Exactly how did he think this would all end?
I am curious. Do these regulations also apply to gay adultery? You know, if two dudes get married, one is in the Navy and he cheats.
Jus' ask'n.
“Sounds like an episode from NCIS.”
It WAS an episode from NCIS.
Dunno. I am not sure that the military recognizes gay “marriage” yet. But if it does, or when it does, I think it will apply.
