Tiny Azerbaijan unleashes pop-power against Iran’s mullahs

BAKU, Azerbaijan — The latest weapon in this country’s ideological war with Iran arrived late last month in an armada of jets from California, accompanied by a private security force, dazzling pyrotechnics and a wardrobe that consisted of sequins and not much else.

A crowd of nearly 30,000 gathered to watch as the leader of this mini-invasion pranced onto a stage built on the edge of the Caspian Sea. With a shout of “Hello, lovers!” Jennifer Lopez wiggled out of her skirt and launched into a throbbing disco anthem, delighting her Azerbaijani fans and — it was hoped — infuriating the turbaned ayatollahs who live just across the water.

“You could almost feel the Iranians seething,” said an Azerbaijani official who attended the U.S. pop star’s first concert in this predominantly Shiite Muslim country of 9 million. “This stuff makes them crazy.”. . .

So the very values promoted by the left, sexual promiscuity, exhibitionism, homosexuality, and depravity in general are precisely the values that “conservative” islam detests. I may be in the minority on this one, but Jay-Lo’s ass or anything coming out of Hollywood for that matter isn’t my idea of freedom or the values of the western world that we should be promoting. I understand your point of view but i think that the salient point here is that the Azerbajanis are becoming more free to choose the values they will adopt. If it’s J-Lo’s butt, that’s a net loss. If it’s freedom to abandon islam and adopt a more rational approach to life, that’s a net positive. I’m certainly willing to take the chance on freedom; it works almost everywhere.

Please do not believe for one instant that Jennifer Lopez represents America or American women. Most of the latter are not tinhorn sluts with lumpy butts. They are decent, modest sisters, wives, and mothers and do not make their living jiggling their flesh before drooling idiots.

While Ms. Lopez may be an ambassador of pop trash, she does not speak for the United States in any way.

True to a point, but the price of living in a free society is that we allow people to make fools out of themselves without penalizing them. Unless they break laws. Free speech = free expression. Free societies would rather allow individual citizens to shun what they don't like rather than allow the government to make the decision for them. I don't find J. Lopez's talents any more interesting than you do, but I won't lift a finger to stop her from doing her uh act.

I doubt it. It is a national definition now. The Azeris are Irani people ethnically who speak a turkic language due to conquest by Turkic peoples in the middle ages

The Armenians are closely related ethnically to the Irani peoples and were culturally linked to Iran for a thousand+ years before they adopted Christianity in the 4th century, converting from Zoroastrianism

The Azeris wouldn't convert to Christianity as that would be too close to their Armenian rivals. But probably Zoroastrianism.
