High praise, indeed: Mitt Romney banner hung on Willis Tower [by 74 year-old ironworker]
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | October 16, 2012 | Michael Sneed

.........John Rukavina, 74, a Local 1 ironworker — who claims to have put up “every antenna and tower in Chicago since Marina Towers in 1974” — affixed a Romney banner as well as an American flag on the ABC antenna on Willis Tower minutes after it was completed Sept. 30.

“The flag is a symbol — an old ironworker’s custom — which is hung if the job went well,” said Rukavina, who said he worked on the Sears Tower antenna in 1978. He’s also worked on the John Hancock Center and New York’s World Trade Center.

“I promised my sister, Anna, a year ago I would use the burial flag of her husband, a World War II Navy veteran, when we topped off the antenna,” he told Sneed.

“But I didn’t tell anyone I was going to put up the Romney poster. I did that on my own and it was hard going. The wind was blowing like crazy that day,” he said. “But I wanted to make that gesture the last thing I did.

I’m in awe of this man!!! This IS the American spirit, isn’t it.

According to Obama, he didn't do it. Someone else did it for him.

Thanks for posting. I cannot imagine a 74 year old continuing to do that work of younger men. Even more inspiring is a union guy unfurled a Romney banner in the heart of Obama Town -- he's clearly a smart man.

Great video of him and a coworker atop the tower here.

The irony of a union ironworker hanging a Romney banner on the Willis(Sears) Tower in Chicago, Obama’s Town, is not lost on the union workers in the MidWest.

The irony of the use of the word “irony” in a sentence about an ironworker would be ,though.

God bless and keep safe John Rukavina!

Wow! Great find.

A great final, defiant act. Hopefully it won’t be our swan song.

Final thought...

John Rukavina.

Obamaphone lady.

Compare/contrast.

Thanks Twinkie—to me, Eric Nordstrom and Lt. Col. Wood are heroes for speaking out. They are doing the right thing at great personal and professional risk, because the fate of the highest officers of our government will be affected by their words. That is a fearsome position to find oneself in.

The truth is, the Taliban and Al Qaeda ARE inside the building. As a closet Muslim and American-hating Communist, Obama is the enemy inside the gates, although with his entire Administration.

The least we can do for the patriots like Nordstrom and Wood is to boot this lawless President and Administration out of DC in three weeks.

And then prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law for their many misdeeds.

May God grant it to be so.

The Rukavinas grew up in the same neighborhood as I did. They were well known in their field then. I didn’t know this guy but I knew his sons.
