It's Time For Romney to Give Benghazi a Rest (Please Change the Subject Alert)
Mother Jones ^ | 10/17/2012 | Kevin Drum

Posted on 10/17/2012 3:36:18 PM PDT by mojito

There's lots of chatter this morning about Mitt Romney's "Benghazi moment" last night, and Ed Kilgore wonders if Romney will keep up the inquisition next week. "Given the extremely narrow nature of Romney's foreign policy critique of Obama last night and throughout the campaign, you do have to wonder what the final debate next week will be like. Will Romney continue to conduct an inquisition of exactly what Obama said when on the Libya killings, treating the incident as a sort of domestic version of Fast & Furious, a key to the Vast Liberal Conspiracy?"

That's pretty much my question too. Adam Serwer has a good rundown of the bickering over whether Obama really referred to Benghazi as an act of terror in his Rose Garden speech the next day, or whether he was just generically referring to acts of terror, and anyway, even if he did, why did he then decline to do it again a few days later, etc. etc. That's all fine, I guess, just part of a tight campaign entering its closing days.

But what I really wonder is: how has this become a serious question anyway? Why does anyone care if it took two weeks to decide that Benghazi was an act of terror?

Gee, I hope not. I especially liked that he managed to throw in F&F in the mix.

Kevin. I know the Left could careless about National Security. That includes THE FOREIGNER. But I would like to know who approved a reduction of security personnel in Benghazi after requests to increase it were needed and asked for. It’s a simple question that has not been answered by the regime. Expect Romney to hammer him on it despite what you socialist frauds try to spin.

the extremely narrow nature of Romney's foreign policy critique of Obama

Then let's broaden that criticism: Barack Obama's foreign policy stinks. It sucks. It reeks. It blows chunks. In fact, Barack Obama HAS no foreign policy, unless you call groveling before every third-world sheet-wearer and tinhorn tyrant a foreign policy. Unless you call apologizing to murderers, savages, and barbarians a foreign policy. Unless you call playing golf while madmen slaughter four of your citizens a foreign policy. In which case, he DOES have one, but it still sucks.

Is that better?

“Will Romney continue to conduct an inquisition of exactly what Obama said when on the Libya killings, treating the incident as a sort of domestic version of Fast & Furious”

I sure hope so. Not really sure how four Americans being murdered in Libya counts as a domestic version of anything, btw.

“Why does anyone care if it took two weeks to decide that Benghazi was an act of terror?”

We CARE because it looks increasingly likely that the administration deliberately and knowingly perpetuated a phony story for those two weeks in order to save their guy’s bacon in the election. I think that’s pretty danged important, you jackwagon. I’m betting it’s important to the friends and family of the four people we lost, too.

Considering that the final debate topic is Foreign Policy, really not time to wrap it up. Particularly since Hillary fell on the sword and Obama pulled her off....but likely only temporarily.

I care. The President of the United States lied to the American people. That's why, you moron.

Kevin,
Not going to happen because the next debate is on foreign policy.

In the same that Woodward and Bernstein should've just given Watergate a rest, I take it? Is there anything on the left that shouldn't be sacrosanct from "politicization", especially as they're the ones who proclaimed that there is no private life, everything is political?

Yeah, how convenient what with the last debate coming up on Monday dealing solely with foreign affairs...

Really, no one was blogging before 2003, seriously? Why not just take credit for inventing it?

He seems a bit testy, is he worried his hero zero is damaged goods? Too late, it looks like a lot of people have seen him for what he really is, a lightweight, average IQ Marxist who has had his way paved his entire life who gets mad when anyone dares question him. I hope Romney really gets under his skin on the last debate and what do you know? It's on foreign policy.

Sorry Kev, I think the issue isn't going away and family members want and deserve honest answers!

I wonder if O really thinks he's done all this on his own merit. Talk about self delusions.

Nixon felt that way about Watergate.

Ford about the pardon.

Carter about the hostages.

Clinton about Monica.

Much has been made of the ridiculous questions Crowley selected, her constant interruptions, her Libya bailout/lie, her always giving Obama the last word (when a question was posed to Romney Obama got a chance to rebut, but when Obama got a question Romney got a chance a chance to rebut THEN Obama was given ANOTHER chance to rebut Romney)....

but the more interesting question is:

When Romney pressed Obama on Benghazi Obama asked Crowley to check the transcript.....

Why would Candy have that particular transcript right in front of her, and how did Obama know she had it in front of her? Coordination?

As a personal favor to me (and I know you don’t know me) would you refrain from posing from Mother Jones?

There are some rags I just don’t need to be exposed to, and this is first among them. Finding this here is like stumbling across pornography on a Christian website. It’s shocking to the system and upsetting to the spiritual balance.

OK, so you will say it’s “for research”. That’s the same excuse that I’ve heard trotted out by weirdos caught with porn on their work computers - they were just researching. I don’t need this kind of research.

Have a heart!
