Obama's Hope Fades in Virginia
The American Spectator ^ | October 18, 2012 | Robert Stacy McCain

[SNIP]

Not long ago, this hopeful prospect might have seemed impossible for even the most optimistic Republican to imagine. As recently as Oct. 2,a Roanoke College poll reported President Obama leading by 8 points in Virginia, but in the past two weeks, the Old Dominion has shifted sharply toward the GOP challenger. Romney has led five of the seven most recent polls and, although the RCP average for Virginia still shows Obama with razor-thin lead, the Republicans here sense a strong enough momentum to carry them to victory on Nov.6...

........The Democrats are evidently shrinking their Electoral College map,in what looks like a defensive "triage" strategy to win just enough states to hold on to the White House. Team Obama already appears to have written off North Carolina, which the president narrowly won in 2008,....In a remarkable interview with National Journal's Major Garrett, top Obama strategist David Plouffe suggested that the Democrat is prepared to fall back to a last-ditch defense of just four battleground states--Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire--that would provide enough of an Electoral College cushion for Obama to squeak past to re-election. That would mean ceding not only North Carolina but also Colorado, Florida, and Virginia to Romney, and might permit the Republican turnout operation to maximize its margins in those states without the battering "headwind" of Democrat attack ads. (Such ads, however, continue to run, and there is not yet any sign of a let-up in the Democrat ad blitz.)

However, with the final days of the election season now ticking away, the Romney campaign's momentum continues, and events in Virginia may yet have nationwide impact. The front page of Thursday's Washington Times features a story about how the Obama administration's "war on coal" has thwarted plans by the tiny Appalachian town of Grundy to expand its airport..................

So look for voter fraud efforts to be multiplied by 10 in Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire.

I was always reasonably confident that VA would vote for Mitt. I hope that Mitt will be able to carry George Allen to a win.

“That would mean ceding not only North Carolina but also Colorado, Florida, and Virginia to Romney”

This gives Romney a total of 257 electoral votes. Wisconsin and either IA, NH or NV gives him the presidency. If Romney gets MI, OH or PA, it’s over.

The problem with O’s strategy is that it falls apart if states like Wisconsin fall to Romney.

He’s not “ceding” anything. Obviously, his internal polling shows he doesn’t have a chance in these states.

Now’s he time to make a donation to Romney/Ryan for the final push.

I think Mitt will carry WI, IA, NH and PA. Not sold on MI, NV or OH.

I’d love to see PA called for Mitt. That will make for a much more relaxing Election night.

The Obama campaign is circling their wagons around coastal California and lower Manhattan.

Agreed about Wisconsin, but our senate candidate, and former governor, has to step it up. Ever since the conclusion of the GOP Primary he has let the Dem candidate walk all over him with nary a peep from him. He lost a lot of ground. Having said all that, I think he wins, but had he worked harder he could have help the ticket more both up and down the line.

I’d hate to see a hardly-working communist ground into the dust. I’ll have to light a big, fat cigar on election day to cheer myself up.

Great to see, if true. The dark side is still running attack ads here, though, so I’m not convinced they’re conceding the Old Dominion. The upside is, Romney has been pounding Obama since debate #1, and Obama has taken serious damage.

Yes. That's the point.

He is ceding the battles in those states because he cannot win those battles. He'll be moving his forces (ad money) to other states to try to salvage them.

Allen- Kaine is second only to the presidential campaign in money spending!
Their last debate is tonight.

Now that Romney has a lead he should find out if his coattails will help Republican candidates. Especially he could help them tie their opponents to Obama.

Should Mittens win the Presidential election, I pray our CongressKritters and Senate put laws into place to protect the good old USA and get rid of ObamaCare etc.

I agree. I think if Romney gets PA, he’ll get OH. The entire Ohio valley is coal country and I think the miners en masse will stick it to Obama. I think it likely that Obama will hold on to NV, though Romney could take it in a squeaker. And MI could go either way. We could see a sweep of the the entire industrial midwest for Romney.

“I pray our CongressKritters and Senate put laws into place to protect the good old USA...”

He will also need a majority in the House and Senate. If not we will probably see the same do-nothing Congress for four more years.
