Man Burned by Stranger Tossing Molotov Cocktail
Belmont Shore Patch ^ | 10/20/12 | Nancy Wride

A man suffered serious burns Friday night when a suspect threw a Molotov cocktail-type device at him while he waited for his father outside a Long Beach market.

The attack happened around 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, said Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton. Investigators who examined surveillance video learned that a man believed to be in his 20s wearing light-colored clothing ran out from an alley and threw a bottle with an unknown flammable liquid in it, Eaton said.

``It landed at the feet of the victim and caused him to catch on fire,'' Eaton said. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition with burns mostly to his lower extremities, Eaton said.

The suspect fled from the scene and has not been apprehended, he said. Investigators do not know a motive for the attack and do not believe the suspect knew the victim, Eaton said.

``There is no indication at all that they knew each other. There was not a previous altercation,'' Eaton said. ``The victim's just standing there, minding his own business, when he has this object thrown at him.''

Anyone with information about the attack was urged to call Long Beach police at (562) 570-7260.

total stranger ... unknown motive ... didn't know each other ... really didn't know each other ...

If I had to guess, I'd say that they might have known each other.

Thanks markomalley. No worries -- Zero plans to ban gasoline sales in the US.

looks like there is a group working in conjunction with the guys in washdc

why these people are not being investigated for conspiracy to commit terrorism is beyond me

of course, it’d help if they had friends in the justice dept... or the white house...

Not a very good description.A 20 year old in light colored clothing.

How tall? How Black? What did he weigh? If you can tell a guy is 20, you should be able to if he is white black Indian or Asian.

Given the pattern of stranger attacks these days, I’m guessing the victim is a white guy and the perp is a Black man or woman.

A black guy droped a gas bomb onto a food court in a mall but usually the stranger attacks come from a mob of black racists playing knock out king. I think throwing gas bombs at white victims is a new strategy for singleton racists.

I predict throwing acid in the faces of white people is coming along as is done to infidel enemies in Africa and Middle Eastern Islam nations.

If I had to guess, I'd remember this before guessing and perhaps guess differently...

Some idiot tried this at a mall up here in DC last week.

Speaking of crime, and totally unrelated, there was an assault of sorts in Georgetown late last night.

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Georgetown-Students-Assaulted-175081561.html

Word for word, from the news alert....

The suspected intruder is described as being approximately 21 years of age, standing 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighing approximately 160 pounds with brown hair. At the time of the incident, the man was wearing a light blue shirt and blue jeans.

...Ok whats missing?

The bomb-thrower made what was no doubt a quick getaway, so the victim probably saw just the back of the hoodie.

Again, another case in Long Beach:

Cudahy officials guilty, but reformer finds no vindication

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-luis-garcia-20121020,0,658716.story

So he decided to run for City Council and take things into his own hands.

The response stunned him. Bricks were thrown through his windows, paint was splattered on his truck four times — each a different color — and a Molotov cocktail was tossed at his house.

Not a common thing nationally, but near Long Beach & LA ??

I think there’s a bit of a difference between throwing a Molotov cocktail at a home (which probably indicated a drug dispute or something between parties that knew each other) and throwing one at a random individual.

I hope the police are seriously investigating the failed attack near DC, because it may be a new technique that one or another anti-American group (either Islamists or black radicals) has hit on, since carrying off a bombing with explosives is probably harder to get away with now.

Yes different.

But the use of gas-in-a-bottle is an uncommon thing in the US. Is it not?

Who is promoting this??

Organized crime (including drug crime) has long used the destruction of property by arson, often involving Molotov cocktails, as a means of getting its point across, shall we say.

What seems new to me is the targeting of persons in a public place (such as the mall in DC and now this individual standing on a street).
