It is a credit to the success of FR that we run into traffic issues and slow downs on debates. I will continue to come here for updates. However a back up plan may be to use twitter and end with #FR so tha twe can search by Free Republic tweeters. Just a thought.
Jim thanks for all your work on this site!

Working faster now - but I’ve discovered that when it’s slow loading, I get the timed-out page saying “Windows Explorer can not complete this connection” - if I then hit the “Diagnostics” button and run the Windows XP diagnostics, it always reports that there is no problem and indeed if I just leave that screen up, usually shortly the page I was going for loads in the background - it’s as though the connection is being made into FR, but somehow an inaccurate message saying the connection cannot be made is sent back to my computer - maybe somebody with lots more tech knowledge than I have can make sense of it......
Thanks for the info.
Nope, I'll never have a FB account. I've been trying to find a thread about a local issue and came across this thread. One of the few that would load today.
Is there any way to restrict threads. Like is done for newbies. Put up a notice only moderator approved threads from noon election day until 6 am the next day. One thread for pres race, one for senate, one for house, and one for states and local.
Last night there were at least 6 debate threads ancillary to the “live” thread.
Other threads running like welcome the drunk newbie and peace to Jerusalem etc.
If there is no technical software or hardware fix in two weeks, need some thread limitations.
IMO.
