Former Secretary of State Colin Powell Endorses Obama (See what happens with AA?)

Former Republican Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed President Barack Obama for a second term Thursday, telling “CBS This Morning” that he voted for Obama in 2008 but this time was going further and publicly backing him.

“We’ve come out of the dive and we’re starting to gain altitude,” Powell said. “The unemployment rate is too high, people are still hurting in housing, but I see that we’re starting to rise up.”

Powell said that when Obama took over “the country was in very, very difficult straits. We were in the one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression.”

“The fiscal system was collapsing: Wall Street was in chaos, we had 800,000 jobs lost in that first month of the Obama administration,” he said. “Unemployment peaked at 10 percent, so we were in real trouble. The auto industry was collapsing, housing was started to collapse, and we were in very difficult straits.

“And I saw over the next several years stabilization come back in the financial community,” Powell added. “Housing is now starting to come back after four years; it's starting to pick up. Consumer confidence is rising."

The four-star general also said that Obama “got us out of one war, started to get us out of a second war, and did not get us into any new wars.”

“The actions he has taken in respect to protecting us from terrorism have been very solid,” Powell said. “We ought to keep on the track we are on.”

Powell served as secretary of state during George W. Bush’s first term. He was also national security advisor in the last years of the Reagan administration and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff from 1989-1993.

Colin Powell was a political general, like Weasley Clark. The real generals are like Norman Schwarzkopf.

What he really means is “vote for the guy with the same race as me.”

“Storm’n Norman won the war that our media gave this useful idiot the credit for”

Ah, my favorite choice for President 20 years ago.

While I cannot blame him for not trying, it is disappointing that he chose to play golf rather than lead us to fight the next good fight, this time politically.

Had it not been for Pres. Reagan and the Republican Party, this power schmuck would never have become a general.

I seem to recall Colonel David Hunt, who will switch his support from Obama in 2008 to Romney in 2012, saying something remarkably strong about Powell being a phony.

This is the man who kept silent while Scooter Libby went to prison.

He and Richard Armitage are both guilty of treason.

So, it's only natural he would endorse Obama at the very time we are finding out about the treasonous actions of Obama, Hillary, Carney and Susan Rice — not to mention a whole ration of people “serving their country?” at the National Security Council and State Department.

Until Obama came along Colin Powell was the quintessential affirmative action poster child. A mediocrity in the military who would have never advanced beyond the level of Colonel had it not been for pigmentation and a mediocrity as Sec of State. The only reason he became a Republican after being a Democrat was because it was Republicans who advanced his career beyond his level of competence.

Rather depressing to see a hero with such a strong legacy self-destruct

The bloom fell of the rose when he took the uniform off. In the military you are required to keep your politics to yourself. Powell is just showing us who he has always been.

Not such a "hero" after all.

Can anyone find an example of an ex-high-ranking member of the administration of one party supporting the candidate of the other party? I simply can’t recall any.

"...The actions he has taken in respect to protecting us from terrorism have been very solid,” Powell said. “We ought to keep on the track we are on.”

I can't believe I'm actually reading this after Benghazi. We "ought to keep on the track we are on" after four Americans were murdered on 9/11, and POTUS and his people continue to lie to us about it??!!

He then goes on to slam Romney because his plan supposedly won't pay for defense because of tax cuts, blah, blah, blah... while conveniently ignoring the fact that Obama's massive defense cuts under sequestration will decimate the military.

Embarrassing and disgraceful.

Another asswipe voting his DNA. I never liked Powell much, and it was pretty clear to me that he was shoved up the chain of command purely for political (i.e. PC) purposes. It was bad enough that he backed Bathhouse Barry last time, but this time it is beyond question that he’s a walking, talking disaster area. Powell confirmed for the world that he never deserved most of his promotions, and never deserved to be Sec of State. Scumbag!
