Texas opened the fastest highway in the nation this weekend, but before a single driver got onto the road, Texan John Hennessey was cruising down the freeway at more than 200 mph.
Hennessey, who specializes in making some of the fastest cars, asked lawmakers if he could test whether the TxTag toll tag system could capture license plates and tags at the new high speeds, according to Jalopnik.
Texas officials gave him the thumbs up to test the system on the open road.
Hennessey topped out his car at 220 mph, and the tag system grabbed his tag and license plate at 180 mph.

The RFID technology can read a tag in less than 3 milliseconds. In fact, the system can have multiple handshakes with the tag while its in the window of opportunity.
He went thru a toll booth lane at 220mph? Holy Carp!
0-60 in about 4 seconds, hits 100 in a couple more. Nice sounding vehicle.
This is fantastic. But can they detect whether I’ve ripped off a license plate to cover my real one and the fact I just love to wear a gorilla face mask might make it difficult to tag me unless they pull me over in person.

For the next two weeks, drivers can test out the speeds for free. The tolls kick in on Nov. 11; rates will be based on the size of the vehicle, method of payment and how far the vehicle travels.
A Lockhart pastor who wouldn’t give his name because, he said, he didn’t want to make any enemies, described the two-week moratorium on tolls like a pretty woman or an illegal substance. Both lure you in. But a little taste of those high speeds, and you’re hooked:

No toll booth, they have over head receivers. No more dangerous than going 220 on a regular road.
I’ve been seeing the “SH-130..Free until November 10” ads on television..
Since in TX, if the speed limit sign says 70, it means go 80, I guess on SH-130, people will be going 95..
I did notice when I took I-10 to Houston awhile back, that the closer you got to Houston, the more people drove the posted speed limit. In the Western Hill Country..not so much.
Well, my Suzuki 4wd could easily mange 85 km/h on the 85 mph stretch.
I don’t know about Austin, but not many people drive slower than 85 in Dallas.

I would have loved to had driven that highway in my 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake with 850 horse power, but my wife won’t let me buy one.....
Ever hit one of those expansion gap bump strips at 200mph+ (300fps)? Whoeee; that’s a pants-loader if you’re not ready for it. Airborne 1-2” and 4 clouds of blue tire smoke. LOL.
Did you see the viral video of the car hitting a concrete blow up on the highway driving 70 to 75?
At 200 MPH you would fly a very long way before you reached earth again.
About 180 when he went through the "gate".
However, there's no "booth". It's just the equivalent of an overhead sign, with cameras and RFID tag readers over the roadway.
The new tollways in Texas are using these readers, and not building "cattle chute" toll plazas. The old toll plazas are gradually being ripped out and replaced, too.

the lines on the road just looked like dots.
In Dallas, everyone droves 99 mph or 0. Nothing in between.
Will they take my E-Z Pass?
