The Empire State is tops again — for having the highest tax burden of any state in the nation.

In what’s become an annual ritual, New York, followed by New Jersey and Connecticut, led the nation in combined state and local taxes, the latest report by the Tax Foundation found.

New Yorkers were socked with an average tax burden calculated at 12.8 percent of their income in 2010, according to the conservative think tank, which has been tracking state-by-state tax burdens since 1977.

And in every survey, New York has been tops. In 2010, that distinction amounted to a whopping $6,375 average tax burden for every man, woman and child.

In New Jersey, the tax burden was put at 12.4 percent of income and in Connecticut it was 12.3 percent. Including New York, the three states were the only ones with a tax burden above 12 percent...

They’re proud of their high tax status, even as they flee their state, come to my neighborhood and vote for big tax and spenders.

So what do you want me to say?

I live in NY. I think there are quite a lot of citizens and especially politicians who are quietly proud of the fact NY has the highest taxes in the nation.

Well, we are only #3—but we are #1 for the most state boondoggles and corrupt giveaways per capita.

isnt there a report out there somewhere depicting the fact that states w/o an income tax do better in every measure than those that do? growth, standard of living etc etc etc... also isn't it a fact that smart, rich people vote with their feet? i.e. a certain millionaire, mr. rush limbaugh left ny a confiscatory tax venue to live in a state where there is no state tax? why yes indeed he did... way to go ny....you screwed yerself out of a bundle of money ....congrats...fools...bwhaahaah oh my goddddd.

Not here in NJ; Chris Christie helped lay off thousands of cops, teachers, etc. so we wouldn’t have to turn our homes over to banks. On other threads I’ve stated that the high tax burden in the northeast, coupled with the falling salaries as our “real” jobs leave and are replaced with “new normal” jobs, make this area ripe for Romney upsets.

I can’t tell you enough: things are really bad here.

Yeah, but look at all the wonderful services they get for their money,

What a crock.

You’re right. The comments are funny.

And they express the views of many people I know.

Problem is NYC. If only we could push it out to sea and pull the plug......

The rest of Upstate could out vote the remaining cities and leave us conservative, but we can’t overcome NYC AND the Upstate cities (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown, Binghamton, Albany, and the Res)

Are you suggesting that Rust Belt Erie and governed from Brasilia on the Hudson would be conservative?
