Not enough, and why does every government alphabet agency need a SWAT team, armament, etc.?

Gives new meaning to the “death panels” for the elderly.

Not this idiotic nonsense again.

SSA has armed agents (and has had them for decades) that investigate benefits fraud, which is often committed by unsavory types involved in other criminal activities and requires going into unsafe housing projects, etc.

HP bullets are routinely used by law enforcement. Better chance of dropping the target without passing through and hitting someone you’re not shooting at.

These bullets are not for the predictable riots that will arise when Emperor Nero Kardashian Narcissus loses. They will be for the tea party types that will rise up when there is beyond provable blatant fraud that keeps Obummer in office.

I’m convinced, with the way ammo prices are rising, that if they simply invest in these rounds and hold them, that ALL Social Security commitments can be funded by selling them, say, by 2030.

I have several uncles who served in WWII. As I have moved them all over that past few years, I’ve cleaned out their rooms at home. Each of them brought home German weapons. I asked one of them if they had a permit for them. One just looked at me and explained he had paid plenty for it.

No one can give a satisfactory answer why SSA bureaucrats need to be armed.

Hollow points are not allowed by any of three versions of the Geneva Conventions on Land Warfare. The US signed the second version and not the third version as many in the EU and elsewhere, in part due to definitions of combatants. Most Americans are presented the third version by the liberal MSM and say we are not following it, and of course they are correct in that we have only ratified the second version.

More to the point, e.g., the hollow point. Why would a government agency use hollow points since they are expensive and not as accurate as ball tipped ammo when used for target practice?

Of course, the .22 cal ammo is really just shade smaller than the .223 military ammo used in NATO designated as 5.56mm ammo (it is just the brass cartridge/power behind the round that is different. The point here is that NATO ammo is by law, e.g., international law under the GCs to be steel jacketed and not a mushrooming type ammo, nor should caliber larger than .50 cal or tracer/incendiary tipped rounds be directed against humans in the open directly. Rather tracers are for aiming or acquiring target distance and not the main round in the magazine.

Hollow point ammo should not be used on people and if local law enforcement is using this type round it perplexes me as to why they would do something forbidden by international agreements within our boarders, and make no mistake hollow points tear up meat when they tumble into the mass of a body of flesh and muscle.

It appears to this old soldier that their is a lot of nasty ammo out there in law enforcements hands Nationwide if it is true they are arming themselves with hollow points. Maybe the federal government needs to step in and ensure our citizens are protected to the extent that our soldiers are legally protected from being targeted by governmental employees at all levels of government from Fed to local from the recognized use (by international governments) of hollow point ammo.

GENEVA CONVENTION....The US Military abides by the Geneva Convention, which bans the use of hollow points. Except for the rounds that snipers use, which is normally a 168gr/175gr BTHP.

Federal law enforcement does not. Every federal agent is issued hollow point ammunition, just like every other cop in the country. However, unlike state and local law enforcement agencies, the Feds use hollow points even in training, even though its cheaper to train and qualify with FMJ. They theorize that they should shoot the same exact ammo in training as they would on the street. As if anyone, could tell the difference. Especially your average federal agent.

As for each agency having guys to do things like warrants and SWAT teams. We all agree that the expansion of these agencies and their reach is ridiculous. Me, probably more than most, as I’ve seen them in action and worked alongside some of them. But, the SSA can’t go to the FBI, US Marshals or anyone else every time they need to search a place or lock someone up. Therefore, they justify all this by saying “WE” have to be able to do this stuff ourselves. Are they a bunch of bumbling fools and Jack Bauer wannabe’s? ABSOLUTELY. I’ve seen it firsthand and have shuddered and hidden behind large objects when I worked with them.

There is alot of competition and ‘weenie measuring’ between the agencies. Each one thinking they are more elite than the other. So, if Mr. SSA Agent goes to his local FBI or US Marshals office and asks for help, he/she will more than likely get put at the back of the line. As the other agencies have “Really Really Really Important” stuff going on.

As for the 174000 rounds. Seems like a lot and it is. But 174,000 sent to 41 locations isn’t all that much when you consider how much they have to qualify, train and supply for duty.

Unless my math is way off: 174000/41 = 4244+/-. Thats not a lot.

I don’t like it anymore than anyone else. Especially since I like to shoot and try and shoot competitively. But, I’m not good enough for a sponsor and I pay my own way. The costs have gone thru the roof.

This is the kind of thing I'm usually suspicious of, but SSA said as much, so it's hard to be skeptical now.

They have agents to investigate cases, and government agencies (FBI, ICE, DHS) are going in big for hollow point ammunition. This would be part of a larger government policy.

I guess the two questions to ask would be: 1) Is buying hollow points something new or a continuation of existing procurement policy? And 2) Why is ammunition that was long banned in wars between nations deemed acceptable for domestic use?

Maybe it’s not bureaucrats but the agents mentioned in post 23.

If you have not visited a Social Security office, don’t be surprised if you are searched for weapons by an armed security guard.

I’m not worried. That’s a short pallet of ammo. I and a few dozen friends have that much ourselves. I’m a community organizer.
