September 14, CIA Chief Petraeus Tells Congress Benghazi Attack Started As Movie Protest

The attack that killed four Americans in the Libyan consulate began as a spontaneous protest against the film “The Innocence of Muslims,” but Islamic militants who may have links to Al Qaeda used the opportunity to launch an attack, CIA Director David Petreaus told the House Intelligence Committee today according to one lawmaker who attended a closed-door briefing.

Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House Intel committee, said Petraeus laid out “a chronological order exactly what we felt happened, how it happened, and where we’re going in the future.”

“In the Benghazi area, in the beginning we feel that it was spontaneous – the protest- because it went on for two or three hours, which is very relevant because if it was something that was planned, then they could have come and attacked right away,” Ruppersberger, D-Md., said following the hour-long briefing by Petraeus. “At this point it looks as if there was a spontaneous situation that occurred and that as a result of that, the extreme groups that were probably connected to al Qaeda took advantage of that situation and then the attack started.”

That is exactly what I summized today and posted on another thread.

1.They were ordered to stand down, they didn't.

2. Biden makes that crude remark at the memorial service.

THEN how is it that Joe Biden knew that Tyrone Woods did such a brave "ballsy" thing, and defy direct orders to stand down?

They knew, because they saw it all happen that very night.

Silenced as in ordered to do thus and so by POTUS himself. Director of the CIA is a political appointment.

Disobey the illegal order that is a political coverup. Go to the steps of the capitol and lay out the whole, unvarnished, treasonous story.
Be sure to include that HE lied when he testified that the video caused this. Say who told him that was the official lie they were going with and who ordered him to advance it.
Bring proof that you as CIA director have.

Trust the nation to protect you, and to reward your honesty.

Lives,
Fortunes,
Sacred Honor.

Interesting that you mention Dreyfus’ “J’Accuse.” It has been on my mind for weeks.

Here we are, you and me, typing on a board someplace in cyberspace, and maybe a couple of people read this. We don’t have bodyguards or food tasters. We don’t ride heavy or live in absolute security.

People in the present government can simply kill us at will...a crash, a mugger, a heart attack. So sad. A pity, really.

Only as I get older do I understand well that my parents’ generation really did understand that America could cease to exist and might need everyone’s lives. Here, we’ve lived in safety, and now, we have jackals at the top, human vipers with white teeth that hide their evil intent...which looks to charge us every drop of blood we have, and more.

Sometimes, I think I would not miss DC or the East/West Coasts much.

“The coward needs to tell the straight up truth.”

Well said, sir! They are all cowards, quislings and poltroons of the basest stripe. Dempsey, Ham, Pannetta, Clinton, Biden, and Obama - all of them

I vote NO CONFIDENCE in the lot. A pox on all their houses. They are all without honor.

I have NEVER been so ashamed of the military leadership (at least since the DADT repeal...), or of the so-called leadership of this great country.

Silenced as in ordered to do thus and so by POTUS himself.

If you are ordered to go before Congress and lie, then you have both a Constitutional and moral duty to resign rather than commit a crime like that.

It's a second hand account by a leftist rat of what Petraeus said.

So, the guy on the phone who was at the consulate telling you they were being attacked by a large force of well-armed attackers couldn't convince you otherwise? You think they triggered a Critical Incident Report for a spontaneous protest?

It’s obvious now that Patraeus knew he was telling a whopper that day. How often do these people lie to us? All we know is that they got caught this time....

This article doesn’t quote what Petraeus actually said, but rather it quotes a Democrat Congressman’s claim of what Petraeus said in a closed door briefing. It is possible this Dem was just lying to keep the Obama story going. Not that I want to defend Petraeus, but I also am reticent to believe any Democrat trying to advance a lie. Time will tell...

First, it is a first-hand account. Ruppersberger saw Petraeus say it - that makes him an eyewitness.

Second, I guess I missed the CIA press release where Petraeus denied that he blamed the attack on the video. Petraeus is quick to send out press releases when he is covering his fanny - like today. So where was the press release where he denied blaming the Benghazi attack on the video?

Someone on another thread said, “This is why our founders put in the Constitution the requirement for President that he be a natural born citizen.” Americans would be less likely to disregard fidelity to their fellow-American. Such loyality would not be transfered transnationally. I must wonder now.

It is up to us to determine why the Obama Administration has chosen to Cover Up what happened in Benghazi.

What are they trying in vain to hide?

The longer Secretary of Statements Hilly takes to “get to the bottom of this,” the more obvious it is that the Benghazi Cover Up was hastily designed to hide a VERY BIG US SECRET TOPIC.

My guess is that the CIA had discovered that some of the 20,000 Libyan Missiles were found in the possession of Ansar al-Sharia, or al-Qaeda who were then shipping the missing Missiles to Syria, and Obama knew all about it.

Can Hilly and Billy keep this a secret until after November 6, 2012?

Their lives just might depend on it - - - .

Meanwhile, Obama and Biden have lied to the American People, as well as their key officials have repeatedly lied to us.

The White House Benghazi Cover Up had closed ranks behind their boss, Obama.

Could Obama have survived the November Election with the embarrassment of a resurgent al-Qaeda in Libya?

Possibly, IF he would have told the truth at his first public announcement, and rallied Americans to “not change horses in the middle of the stream,” etc. etc., etc.

No way in Hell, now that Obama has lied about Benghazi.

Double Fail.

First, it was foolish to think that the Benghazi attack was anything other than a pre-planned, well-organized attack. Those thinking otherwise let their limited perspective overwhelm their common sense.

Second, Petraeus’ doctrine of soft-warfare is a losing strategy that prolongs military conflicts and causes our troops to be in more peril than they ought to be in. All you have to do is look at the so-called “insider” attacks and the manifest failure of our Afghanistan occupation to see how that strategy is really stupid.

I hope that Petraeus is dismissed from his current position when Romney takes office and that his whole counter-insurgency doctrine is ripped to shreds after being critically re-examined from top to bottom.

It’s even bigger, justice helped spring the man identified as the leader of this group that organized this attack. Here is the info on the people in justice I posted a month ago. This Terrorist was sent to a Libyan prison and someone helped him get released in the beginning of the uprising and who helped him overthrow the regime. They created and supplied this group with heavy weapons. Some of these weapons may have been used to conduct this attack. Just my educated guess.

Here are the players, it goes deeper then CIA,State and DOD. If you look at the released classified itinerary of Stevens he was meeting with the only shipping company that Controled all the Libyan ports.

Follow the trail from Holder and his staff to Gitmo terror subject who was sprung in 2007 by Jennifer Daskal who is currently working in Justice. Does she still have his phone number? What would be the blow back if a person trusted in Justice directly helped the killer of our ambassador?

DOJ Lawyers Who Represented Terrorism Suspects Detainees Are Identified
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Fox News has identified the seven anonymous Justice Department lawyers who previously represented Guantánamo detainees or terrorism suspects.
Justice Department spokesman Matthew A. Miller confirmed the names to Fox News’ Mike Levine, but did not say whether any of the seven previously anonymous lawyers now work on issues related to Guantánamo detainees.
“Each of the nine people referenced in the letter filed legal briefs that are available by using something as simple as Google,” Miller told Fox News. “We will not participate in an attempt to drag people’s names through the mud for political purposes.”
Miller said “politics has overtaken facts and reality” in the battle over the lawyers’ identities. (Full statement below)
The current Justice Department employees who previously represented Guantánamo detainees or terrorism suspects are:
·         Tony West, the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division.
·         Jonathan Cedarbaum, of the Office of Legal Counsel.
·         Eric Columbus, senior counsel in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General.
·         Karl Thompson, of the Office of Legal Counsel.
·         Joseph Guerra, Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General.
·         Tali Farhadian, an official in the Office of the Attorney General.
·         Beth Brinkmann, Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Division.
Two other DOJ lawyers — Principal Deputy Solicitor General Neal Katyal and National Security Division Attorney Jennifer Daskal – also formerly represented detainees, but their identities had already been known.
In response to the DOJ confirmation, Keep America Safe spokesman Aaron Harison said the organization still wants information on which of the lawyers works on detainee issues within the DOJ.
“The American people have a right to know whether lawyers who voluntarily flocked to Guantanamo to take up the cause of the terrorists are currently working on detainee issues in President Obama’s Justice Department,” Harison said. (Full statement below)
Details about the DOJ lawyers’ involvement in Guantánamo detainee cases are available in the article, which also points out that the Justice Department hired several lawyers who represented Guantánamo detainees during the George W.

Holder’s former firm, Covington & Burling represented 14 Gitmo detainees. Still looking to see which ones:
“Guantanamo Bay Detainees
We currently represent fourteen men detained at the United States Naval Station at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Most of the men have been detained for approximately eight years and none have been charged with any crimes. Following the decision by the Supreme Court in Boumediene v. Bush, 128 S. Ct. 2229 (2008), holding that the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus extends to detainees held at Guantánamo Bay, we are challenging the legality of our clients’ detentions in habeas proceedings in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Of the seven cases that have gone to merits hearings thus far, Covington has won four, lost two, and is awaiting a decision in one other. Two prior clients were released without a hearing.
The firm has been involved in the Guantánamo related litigation for the last six years. In addition to the on-going habeas corpus proceedings, our efforts have included: bringing cases for review of enemy combatant classification decisions in the D.C. Circuit under the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005; challenging the destruction of CIA torture tapes in federal court; filing amicus briefs and coordinating the amicus effort in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, 548 U.S. 557 (2006); filing amicus briefs in support of Supreme Court review in Moussaoui v. United States, 382 F.3d 483 (4th Cir.), cert denied, 544 U.S. 931 (2005); challenging the government’s practice of redacting information from documents given to security-cleared habeas counsel; and challenging the abusive medical and living conditions that the detainees experience at Guantánamo.”
http://www.cov.com/probonooverview/probono.aspx?show=morehighlights
I believe the CCR represented him. The CCR has strong ties to Covington & Burling:
“And then there is the Center for Constitutional Rights, a Marxist organization that for years has coordinated legal representation for terrorists detained at Guantanamo Bay. The CCR has been attempting to convince Germany, France, Spain, and other countries to file war-crime indictments against former Bush administration officials, including President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Secretary Rumsfeld. In representing America’s enemies, CCR has collaborated with many private lawyers, who also volunteered their services — several of whom are now working in the Obama Justice Department. Indeed, Holder’s former firm boasts that it still represents 16 Gitmo detainees (the number was previously higher). And, for help shaping detainee policy, Holder recently hired Jennifer Daskal for DOJ’s National Security Division — a lawyer from Human Rights Watch with no prior prosecutorial experience, whose main qualification seems to be the startling advocacy she has done for enemy combatants

Jennifer Daskal
Jennifer Daskal is an American lawyer who serves as senior counsel for Human Rights Watch, and focuses on issues of terrorism, criminal law and immigration.[1][2] She is also currently a political hire at the Department of Justice, which is seeking to prosecute terror suspects through the criminal justice system instead of through military tribunals.[3][4]
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Cambridge and Brown University and a Marshall Scholar,[5] Daskal garnered attention after traveling to the countries to which Guantanamo captives have been released, to verify that those countries are abiding by the undertakings they made to the US Government to respect the returned captives’ human rights.[6]
On February 23, 2010, the New York Post reported that Daskal, Neal Katyal, and three other lawyers who had worked on behalf of the civil rights of Guantanamo captives, had been serving on the Obama administration’s task force reviewing the status of the remaining Guantanamo captives.[7] The paper had first questioned her appointment to the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, in July 2009, and then again in January 2010
