So far only Craig is evacuating. The quake was felt in Ketchikan, Craig and Juneau, not felt in Sitka. No wave in Sitka at 9:02 pm Ak time.
Loved the place. Especially the 'home of the happy bears'. ;)
Prayers up for all y'all in the affected areas.

I think the poster means, a hurricane threatening parts of the East Coast and the potential of a tsunami on the Pacific Northwest section of the West Coast.
Craig and Port Alexander report 4 inch wave.
Hmm wondering about Klawock on Prince of Whales. I have friends there...
Tongass, is that inches or feet?
Port Alexander is much farther away from the epicenter than Ketchikan — don’t see how the tsunami ripple could not yet have arrived in K area.
Inches. I have a son that is a part of the emergency management in SE Alaska and a daughter and her husband as earth scientist at U of Ak.
I think it gets broken up by the all the islands.
I did not realize Ketchikan Airport is a ferry ride away from downtown — but not at all unusual to hop a ferry in SE Alaska.
I would assume that Klawock would have been evacuated too. It is a little further inland and better protected then Craig.
Just heard from friends in Craig. They are heading home after the evac.
Sounds like all the excitement is over by bedtime (let’s hope).
I see five aftershocks 2.5 or greater so far.
Inches. I have a son that is a part of the emergency management in SE Alaska and a daughter and her husband as earth scientist at U of Ak.
Here is additional confirmation from Google alerts.

What happens when you get out to the end of the S Tongass Highway? Just turn around and go home?
I assume so. It has been a few years since I have been on the high way in Ketch.
All tv stations here in Hawaii are issuing Tsunami warnings for the expected first wave to hit here at 10:28 Hawaii Standard Time. In Honolulu they are asking people just a few feet above ocean level to evacuate. The biggest waves they predict will hit Maui (about 5 feet) and Hilo (about 4 feet).
A friend of mine down in Puna (southeast from Hilo)has said that people were gathering at his place to ride this thing out. His elevation above sea level is over 50 feet.
Everything is uphill when you step off the boat. Everything.
Respect the folks that live there. They have the harsh part, and I've never (thank GOD) been there during the winter months.
Weird and wonderful folks live up there. 6 months of summer up there screwed me up for leave down home because it gets dark here. Scary dark. I did re-adapt to my native environment, eventually.
Smoke pit at 2300 and seeing like daylight? I had problems with that. Damn sun didn't really set and go away. ;)

The “Bridge to Nowhere” was to replace that ferry. Not exactly a bridge to nowhere - it’s the only main airport for xxx miles around. And the ferry is more like a glorified barge IIRC. Can handle maybe 15 -20 pickup trucks??? Not sure how often it gets shut down for weather.
