My pal Guy Benson found a juicy nugget that helps to bring more clarity to the news from Gallup yesterday that shows Romney leading Obama in the early vote by a full seven points, 52-45%. Almost exactly four years ago (October 28, 2008), according to Gallup,
Obama was massacring John McCain among early voters with a fifteen-point lead, 55-40%. That means, at least according to Gallup, that Obama's early vote advantage has dropped 22 points when compared to '08.
Benson also notes that the percentage of voters who have or intend to vote early was 33% in 2008 and remains at 33% today. As Don Surber said in this tweet, "People don't wait in line to vote for the status quo[.]"
In his email to me, Benson makes The Point: "Obama had a 55/40 lead on McCain with early voters in '08, but only led by 3 pts with the election day crowd. He ended up winning by 7 overall."
In other words, among those who actually voted on Election Day, Obama's advantage over McCain was only three-points. Obama won by seven overall because of the early vote margins he had accumulated. If Gallup is correct about 2012 and Romney being ahead by seven with early voters, that means Obama's in very deep trouble. Even polls that show Obama with a small lead in states like Ohio confirm Romney will win among those who vote on Election Day.

I’m only voting for local City Council races where the R’s have experience and connection over the Dems (although their plans are basically similar). Might even leave the Mourdock and Romney lines blank and even feel good about it in the morning. :)
Candidates have died right before an election, but in at least one case, early voting didn’t have an impact. Democrat voters actually went to the polls on election day and voted for a dead man.
In 2000, Gov. Carnahan ran for a Senate seat from Missouri against incumbent Republican John Ashcroft. Only three weeks before election day, Carnahan was killed in a plane crash (along with his son, Randy Carnahan, who piloted the plane, and Chris Sifford, the governor’s chief of staff and campaign advisor). Due to the short time before the election, Missouri election law did not allow Carnahan’s name to be removed from the ballot. Acting Governor Roger B. Wilson announced that he would appoint Jean Carnahan if her husband were to win the election posthumously.
Out of respect, John Ashcroft suspended his campaign during the mourning period for Mel Carnahan. Jean Carnahan did not actively campaign, but announced that she intended to accept Acting Gov. Wilson’s appointment and filmed one campaign commercial.
The race between Ashcroft and Mel Carnahan had been close. Carnahan posthumously received the most votes by a slim margin — only 48,000 votes out of 2.36 million cast (51-48%) — and Mrs. Carnahan was appointed to the Senate in 2001. Although arguably under Missouri law Mel Carnahan could not win, since he was dead and therefore did not “live” in the state, and Ashcroft actually won (receiving the most votes of the legally qualified candidates), Ashcroft did not contest the election certification of the Democratic Secretary of State, possibly because no legal precedent had been set. The seat was therefore declared vacant and Jean was appointed although, under Missouri law, she would only serve until a special election could be held in 2002.

Agree, however my complaint is with the early voting enabling more fraud, which is why IMO the Democrats pushed so hard for such voting in the first place. They can control the numbers they need to manufacture easier with early voting.

I think that Pet Rock is even more apropos comparison to the -bama fad than Beanie Baby. At least the Beanie Babies could entertain young children after their demise. I can’t recall what that crazy fad that involved growing some stupid green stuff on some shaped thingy was called, but that would be even better example.
Since you apparently don’t care about it much, I ask that you vote for the Republican candidates in your state on my behalf. At least in your state there is a chance it can make a difference, as opposed to here in NYState where my vote against the Dems is perpetually less noticeable than my extracting a cup of water from the ocean. Blame it on me if you have doubts the next morning or the next year.
I think voting sh9uld require a DNA scan, a retina scan and a Biometric scan along with a private pin.
Voting is a damned sacred duty and should be protected at all costs and any fraud should be considered treason!

You are absolutely right about that. I don't think they have any idea about what is about to hit them. The hurricane this week might be a Cat 1 but they are about to get slammed with a Cat 5 on Tuesday night.
Well, after the election's over they'll gripe about how no one they knew voted for Romney.
I voted last week after being invited to Yosemite for next Mon/Tue/Wed. Otherwise I’d be enjoying seeing my neighbors at the local polling place at the church down the street on election day.
I agree with your concern, though early voting does have its place.
According to this, Obama will still win the electoral college vote unless Romney gets enough swing states. Among OH, FL, CA, FL, NC, IA and MI, which ones are we confident Romney will win ?
