Last month, Ray Smith was hoping to get together with his son, Sean, whom he had not seen for 15 years. But, it became devastatingly apparent, after seeing a story on CNN about the four Americans killed in Libya, that he would never see his son alive again. “I seen all these coffins come off the plane,” Smith recalled. “Four of them. Then I saw his picture in the corner. They mentioned Sean Smith was one of those killed.”

Smith received this gut-wrenching news via television, prior to receiving a call, a form letter and a flag from Undersecretary of State Patrick Kennedy. But, the call did little to assuage Smith. Sean Smith, 34, was killed during the Sept. 11 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, along with Ambassador Chris Stevens and ex-Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.

Outraged by hearing about Sean’s death on TV, he contacted his congressman, Rep. C.W. “Bill” Young (R-FL). “He blew up when he saw that,” the congressman said. “I went to [Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton to see if she could talk to him about his son. She and his son were friends.”

He hadn’t seen his kid in 15 years. Maybe his dad wasn’t listed in the notification paperwork.

Hilliary and Obama are real pieces of trash. Most who have been in the miltary here are aware that certain all volunteer TS units have a special NOK form. That form for notification of NOK (Notification of Next of KIN)basically asks? 1. In the event I am wounded and expected to live do or do not notify my parents/family member(s)listed.

2. Now, if you are KIA they WILL notify your NOK.They will not tell them what country you were in if classified.

I have a letter here with my late mother’s tears on it smearing the ink from almost a few weeks after being shot twice on 26 Apr 69.

I cannot imagine this man hearing about his son on CNN?

Sean’s mother is said to have raised him alone. The fact that it had been 15 years speaks volumes.

Sounds like a more than likely explanation. IF he was estranged from his father that many years, he probably didn’t put his father on any notification paperwork.

While I feel bad a bit for the father, IF what I’ve said is the case, the last thing we need are his father’s public complaints about something that is really caused by a family issue, to be muddying the water.
