Beyond debate, Pennsylvania's in play
Reuters ^ | October 31, 2012 | By Thomas Ferraro

A new poll released on Wednesday is the latest indication that Pennsylvania, which has not voted Republican in a presidential race since 1988, could do so again next week.

In one month, an 11-percentage-point lead held by President Barack Obama has dwindled to 4 points, according to a survey by Franklin and Marshall College's Center for Opinion Research.

Ann Koberna, a Democratic activist and former school teacher in the Philadelphia suburb of Doylestown, did not need a poll or ads to see that support for Obama was eroding ahead of next Tuesday's election.

She noticed it just after the first debate, on October 3, which boosted Romney's national poll numbers after his strong performance. All of a sudden, she said, Romney-Ryan lawn signs started popping up in Doylestown and now they are all over the place.

"It's troubling," she said, noting she recently planted an Obama sign in her front lawn as a "counterbalance."

"I know people who voted for Obama last time but aren't this time," Koberna said. She attributes the shift less to the debate than the economy. "They are looking for someone to blame."

The Franklin and Marshall poll supports her observation.

If one uses a sports analogy to describe the Presidential race at this point, we are the challenger, on the road, with a hostel crowd and blatantly bias officials.. We are playing the reining Super Bowl Champion .

They have a bad record, and a weak defense with only one reliable but aging receiver, who has his own long term contractual issues, with a grudge against management.. Their QB is an overrated Rookie, with pungent to fumble, can’t scramble, and panics under pressure..

Our Offense is on a roll, with recent come-from-behind victories, and increasing momentum.. Our veteran QB is solid in the pocket and is fast on his feet, an accurate arm, and a proven record..

I think it might be another Lucy and Charlie Brown situation. I was SHOCKED that Pennsylvania didn’t go for Bush II in 2004 so I guess I am not hopeful for 2012.

And the lawns with no signs are voting Romney too.

Maybe they don’t put up signs to “counterbalance” the yards with them all over PA ...SARC //

..it's that type of reasoning that got Odungo elected, that's how this nitwit voted.....and still uses "balance" as a factor....moron

I remember the 2004 election, and Bucks County had a lot more Kerry signs out than there are for Obama right now.

I just hope it’s enough, I’d like to go to bed early next week and get a good night sleep knowing my worries are gone.

Christie is up for re-election and his state is blue. So, he was just putting the seal on his re-election. Nothing more, nothing less.

It was his Charlie Crist moment. And no, I don’t think it will help Christie.

She’s for Obama — of course she wants to have her countersay to Romney signs.

Obama will turn on Romney and do just what?

His team is busy ginning up the gutter, that’s painfully clear. But Romney is making sense to more and more people.

Well, we are talking about NJ here - not Florida. So, therein lies the difference.

I’m in Pa and was burnt the last time too, but I’m more optimistic this time - guardedly so. Last time, Obama was new, the electorate in “Pittsadelphia” were enthused and we had a ‘rat governor. The massive voting fraud was unchecked so much that you could almost see the dead voters slouching toward the polls.

I think - I hope - it is different this time. As other freepers have said, it feels different and they can’t keep Romney/Ryan signs in stock at our GOP headquarters. I’m hoping Pa brings it home for Romney this time!
