This is a great article discussing the history of NE hurricanes.

“A Sign of the ‘New Normal’?”

No, because that is grammatically incorrect. Not the New Normalcy/Normality/Normalness, either.

The year following Katrina was supposed to be another disaster year...

We waited......and waited....Nothing....nada....0 disasters.

The Great Storm of October 29, 1693: Virginia to Long Island

A tremendous storm, possibly tropical in origin, changed the course of rivers and modified the coastline from the Delmarva Peninsula to Long Island. It is believed that Fire Island (just east of New York City) was bisected by the storm. The same apparently occurred to many coastal portions of the Delmarva Peninsula and region around Chesapeake Bay.

Sounds like a more-powerful version of Sandy to me, and hitting on the same day. So much for Sandy being caused by human-caused global warming.

There is no “normal” with the weather. I laugh at forecasters talking about the “normal” temperature for a calendar date. Bull$shit. Weather varies. It changes.

I am surprised that we even know to call them hurricanes because never before global warming was discovered had a hurricane ever occurred in all of history.

now because of the way we make energy

Idiotic statement!

We do not make "energy" in any way, shape, or form! God made all the energy that exists at the instant of creation. It is all the energy that ever was, now is, and ever will be.

We convert energy from one form to another to suit our purposes. Every time we make such a conversion we rely on a difference of potential to extract some of the energy (in a differing form) to power our lifestyle with a bit of the original energy "lost" (it appears as an increase in entropy). Think about energy in it's various forms. Potential energy flows "downhill" (an avalanche falls from a mountain into the valley below, never the other way!). Water flows downhill (same!). Electricity flows from a high voltage (potential) to a lower (ground). Heat flows from a higher temperature to a lower temperature.

You may pump water uphill, rocks may be conveyed to higher ground, you may charge a capacitor to a high voltage, and you may "pump" heat from inside your house to the outside with an air conditioner. It is the "hills and valleys" in the potential fields that allow us to extract energy. In every one of these reversals of the normal flow of energy, some energy is lost and remains unavailable.

That loss represents entropy. Think of it as a gradual lowering of the "potential" to use energy. The valley gradually fills so avalanches can no longer fall. In like manner all potential fields (electrical, gravitational, thermal) become flatter as time goes forward. It is the "hills and valleys" in the potential fields that allow us to extract energy.

One further note; Increasing entropy can be visualized as an arrow that points in the direction of the future. It thus defines time as increasing entropy. When all potential fields have flattened out, entropy can no longer increase and thus time stops. All of the energy originally put into our universe is still there but it is no longer available to us inside the universe. We can no longer reach it to use for our purposes.

Regards,
GtG
