Just like white men, independents make up less of the electorate than they did four years ago.

In absolute numbers, that makes sence as the actual turnout was about 13 million less than 2008. According to Linda Killian, author of "The Swing Vote," indies were 24 % of the turnout Tuesday. She said that on PBS' NewsHour Wednesday evening. She agreed with Gallup's claim that indies make up 40 % of registered voters.
